Well yeah, because it’s the day they don’t put their A lineup out there.

I mean, it’s about as much of a must win game as there can be in August due to the tiebreaker implications. No Vavra? Phillips and Nevin? C’mon.

I have never understood, not once, the purpose of keeping Nevin on the roster this long.

Right now he wouldn’t get regular AB with Vavra killing it.

He could though.  Vavra as your regular second baseman, and Santander, Hays, Mullins, and Stowers in the OF and DH spots on a rolling basis.  Keeps everyone fresh too.

Ah yes, those days when Adam Plutko was the steal of the offseason and Cesar Valdez was the next Mariano Rivera.

Adam Plutko. I got a shiver of terror down my spine reading that.  Those days do seem like a while ago.

They can, and, eventually, I think they will. Vavra playing 2B yesterday after his pinch hit double is a good sign.

Agreed. Really hoping Friday's lineup is something like what you proposed (without Stowers unfortunately).

I love Vavra and want him supplanting Odor yesterday. Vavra's at bats are great to watch, and he and Adley are the two guys in the lineup with excellent discipline, unlike all the holdovers from the Duquette regime. Once Gunnar and Cowser are in the lineup, I'm going to love watching our hitters wear down opposing starting pitchers.

Lineup I'd love to see moving forward:

    Mullins CF

    Vavra 2B

    Adley C

    Santander DH

    Mountcastle 1B

    Urias 3B

    Hays LF

    Stowers RF

    Mateo SS

Against righties, absolutely.  Makes too much sense.  But can they bench Odor?

Odor can't be benched under any circumstances.  Guess he has it in his contract.  Perks of getting a great agent ???  ;)

Can't be benched, AND can't hit lower than 7th.  Hyde has had a great year, but the obsession with Odor has been reminiscent of Buck's past obsessions with certain bad veterans.

Please call him up and stop playing Odor.  Good grief.

I agree with stop playing Odor.  But I would let Vavra play second every day, and put Gunnar at third, and Urias as super sub (start at second against lefties, etc.)

Henderson appears to have heated right back up.

While he did have a pedestrian (by his standards) 826 OPS in the month of July, his last 28 days OPS is 1062, so it really appears that he just had a VERY cold beginning of July and then has proceeded to go right back to mashing.

Ramon Urias might be headed for a bit of a cold streak (298 OPS in his last 7 games, 636 OPS in his last 14) but I'm not sure that'll warrant a call-up from Henderson.  Something tells me if it was gonna happen, it would have happened by now!

I mean, we did call up Manny in August to play third in 2012.... and as I keep saying, 2012=2022. So....

    But, still. Why?

Can't we just watch Stowers, McKenna, and Diaz?

Are we trading Mullins or something?

My thoughts exactly.  The whole point of trading Santander/Mancini is to get at bats for Diaz and Stowers.  Phillips is a fun clubhouse guy, sure, but where are his at bats coming from?  If we don't trade Santander, is he just taking McKenna's at bats?
