  1. We disagree. Disparage his performance all you want but he was out there per MLB for the years he was signed for. Fact is he provided much value to the clubs who disagreed not once but twice with you (Seattle AND Twins) while your approach removed his crucial bat ( and let Markakis walk too) from the 2014 ALCS team that was replaced with ????? Travis Snider . I remain steadfast in believing not giving Cruz an additional year was nowhere near the risk incurred by the other poor choices made that offseason. And the results were as expected when the team had these critical resources removed and not replaced much less upgraded.
  2. I have no idea .. but they didn’t want him pretty clearly which I believe will turn out to be a mistake.
  3. Come talk to me after the third year. Right now I will predict he will provide over value in years 36,37 and 38.. and very well may through another deal. Astros not known for being dumb.
  4. Gotta prove it to me. I support Elias but still don’t know where the Angelos drama goes —hopefully he will have a free rein but no Oriole GM with this family ever has.
  5. If the Orioles had truly wanted Abreu they could have certainly outbid them. They did not want him. But the Os are masters at the token offseason bid.
  6. I argued then that professional hitters like Cruz and Ortiz and Harold Baines etc etc usually keep hitting into 40s. All you needed him for was to hit and these guys continue much longer than a position player would.. I was right.. Duquette was wrong. I would have done the same with Abreu. It is a risk I would take every time with DHs who have been productive.
  7. That is what this board said about 4 years and Nellie Cruz..do something.. it might work out.. we tend to wait on the “perfect” to the detriment of the good. Abreu was the free agent bat I wanted.. too bad
  8. After 2014 was more important in my opinion but pretty important alright!! I know the waiting has all kinds of strategery lol but Orioles have never been that team busting out of the offseason gate.
  9. That Roch article sounds like the bad old days a bit. Make sure we fans know we aren’t going after the best pitchers.. check. Now float the idea that a second tier Bassit won’t “come cheap”. This is the path to Ubaldos and Lyles .. i hope Elias proves this wrong.
  10. I think it is much less so now that opt outs are almost always part of the major free agent deal. No way Correa signs with Twins who have 4 playoff “appearances “ (not won even a single game) since 2010. I don’t think Twins overpaid substantially, i just think a one year opt out and stepping up with their checkbook assertively made it happen The Os of course used to refuse opt out deals.. and frre agent pitchers avoided Camden and the unbalanced AL East.. but with balanced schedule, wall change and ownership willingness for opt outsnow all different.. i don’t see any issue being that the Os have been losers in recent years.
  11. Sure .. it was about him believing the Os could sell themselves as emerging powers to be, coming into their own etc and you doubting they could sell that. My point is that either way it doesn’t matter to most free agents, imho.
  12. Free agents usually take the most money. Offer them the most, we will get them.
  13. Blessings and a most Happy Thanksgiving to all my OH friends!! Gratitude is the most important of human emotions and I am grateful for baseball and the people who follow it!!
  14. As I have always said … it isn’t my money. If they want to make a run at the top tier, then good!! If they want to spend that money otherwise, good too-you could get Bassitt AND Eovaldi and a bat lol. Let’s say 4 years 160 mil for DeGrom.. .. so contract cost for Bassitt 60, Eovaldi 50 and Abreu 35
  15. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/carlos-correa-free-agency-ranking-all-30-teams-as-possible-landing-spots-with-fringe-contenders-leading-list/amp/ Os listed as one of the top three teams .. doubt it.
  16. I never really trusted insider information because it was being leaked for Warehouse agenda reasons usually. But it never really bugged me either.
  17. Not my cup of tea … i will take Sporting News predictions lol
  18. And not surprisingly they said zero about their Os error in this article lol except they could have been more wrong
  19. Used to be a guy named Brooks was the reason for the last statement.
  20. A from me. He has made sound hires throughout the organization and changed the culture. He has carefully executed a well designed plan. He has been soundly behind his manager during the bad years. He is a no drama GM. The team behind scouting and development are outstanding and we are now on the cusp of great years
  21. A media fav.. Boston and NY media .. he did a good job, Hyde did a better one .. Buck too helped by NY media influence.. good job but playoff fail as usual
  22. The MLBPA plays its own service manipulation game. Ownership does it and MLBPA does it. Nature of collective bargaining. It is definitely a loss for the Orioles. If he had been able to play earlier, maybe we get the wildcard. But he wasn’t, we didn’t .. so we move on.
