  1. The only way you love these kind of players is if they play for your team .. otherwise they generate a lot of negative energy from other fan bases .. lol But it is all fantasy stuff
  2. Ummm doubt that it would.. he was looking for 10 year 350 last year signing 3 year 104 deal he is opting out of 6 year minimum i would guess and near 200 mil We can sign anybody up to 20+mil for 2023 and still be budget neutral as Chris Davis 23 mil comes off .. house money..
  3. Payroll wise.. if we sign anyone at 20 million a year it will be a budget neutral signing as we paid Chris Davis 23 mil this year in last big year (although still getting 9 mil plus for next 3 years and declining amounts till he is 51) or look at the Jason Heyward contract now ending etc Mega deals for these position players almost always create more problems than they solve
  4. Pass.. for all the reasons cited.. good luck getting a 5 year plus deal at 150 mil or whatever… that lucky team will regret it.
  5. You don’t have any evidence he “didn’t care”. Drama diminishes the argument. Mike Elias made a different assessment and decision than you. But I would suspect he could defend his decision in ways that involve many things, but “not caring” is not one of them, imho.
  6. I agree with this .. I was wondering though as to your take as to where Hyde’s input came in, or comes in during these decision points.. how does this move fit or not fit… is there a discussion and valuing of his input or is it just Elias and Mejdal etc saying .. this is who is going to get these at bats in this series or going forward ?
  7. Finding the line between “mortgage the future” and “answer the door” is what they pay the big bucks for I guess lol. I don’t think Elias had any of the ideas you mention “turning up one’s nose”.. etc ..and he has much more analytical and plan information than you or I do .. I think he believes genuinely in his plan and process and his decisions flow from that. One man’s “rigid” is another man’s “disciplined”. Lol
  8. As bad of a state as this organization was in, what you see as Elias “rigidity” has been essential imho. And yes that may involve not getting off track to marginally improve to try and get a 3rd wildcard spot. I am completely fine with his judgements and it is that type of thing that can set rebuilds back (which are still not guaranteed in any way for 2023 )
  9. 2 years 75-80 mil total … he has a 2023 player option right now for 25 mil with Houston .. Scherzer got three years but Verlander will be 40.. doubt he gets 3 If a one year deal it will probably be 45 mil or so imho
  10. I think we would have had more blown saves than with Bautista and the net effect would be nil or even worse than where we were. Bigger problem in terms of winning was offense leaving the stage many games down the stretch. I think Elias made a good trade and I am high on Povich.. he is one of my sleeper candidates in organization progress next year .. if stays healthy
  11. Exactly… and I was never a fan of accumulating minimal value players. GMs love this sort of inside minutiae though and one does have to stock minor league teams too.
  12. Man, that ball hit by Alvarez was completely obliterated !!!
  13. Almost a cool 100 million in salary this year for this group of “aces” lol
  14. One of my favs… Luis Gonzalez in bottom of ninth beating Mariano and MFYs in 2001
  15. https://www.mlb.com/news/jacob-degrom-free-agency-top-suitors Check out us as one of the 7 suitors. “Baltimore Orioles This might seem like a far-fetched scenario ... but would it be? Baltimore took a big step forward in 2022, winning 83 games while hanging in the AL Wild Card race until the final days of the season. With less than $10 million in guaranteed salary on the books for 2023 and beyond, adding a bona fide ace to their group of young players would be a sign from the Orioles to the fan base that they’re serious about contending.” so yeah… 1. Sign deGrom 2. Pick up Lyle’s option 3. Trade Mountcastle/Mullins/Mateo for best arm available and sign Jose Abreu.
  16. Best teams often don’t win the postseason. Mets win one of the last 6 with Braves then they win the division. Back before wildcards, the Os often had much better record than the AL West winner but stayed home. I think the two teams with best record should get the bye .. irrespective of division. Particularly when they go to balamced schedule A 101 win team should not have to play a 2 out of 3 first round. Having said that … Os and Mets 1969 World Series.. better teams don’t always win
  17. Do you try to sign Gunnar now to long term deal?
  18. Aparicio led twice, Brian Roberts tied with Carl Crawford in 2007

An outstanding season.. in my top ten of alltime favorite Os seasons!! Thanks to Os and all my friends here at the OH! Let’s go all the way on our 40th anniversary since last championship!!
  20. I disagree about Mountcastle .. I think he is not a core player and could be traded either in offseason or in 2023 ..he is more in Santander/Hays/Cedric category.
