  1. Given that Elias wasn't willing to move any of the 3 to even triple-A, I don't think Baltimore was really a consideration. My guess is they're hoping one of Westburg or Ortiz forces an early promotion, as they've both had a decent number of AA at bats.
  2. I think the Orioles would need one more "big bat" in this scenario. Could be in the IF or in the OF. Mayo or Henderson might be that guy eventually, but neither can legally drink yet..so they're probably a few years away from being that middle of the order bat. I'm not really sold on the OF. Santander is ok, and Hays needs to take a step forward. Otherwise think Cowser takes Hays' spot, and FA for RF (also not sold on Stowers/Diaz)
  3. Assuming that the Orioles want a LH bat, the options are Stewart and Odor (blech)...maybe just nix a LH bat?
  4. apologies for the lack of clarity, I meant while in games at big league camp this spring
  5. Also absolutely ridiculous that you can't live stream games on masn if you have an xfinity subscription
  6. I feel as if Westburg has mostly played 3b when he's been with the Orioles. Is that correct? Might be an indication of where they think he fits longer term
  7. This is partially my own bias, but I don't get Stewart on the roster. Having a player on the bench who can't play defense seems wasteful, he can barely hit, and he should be nowhere near that new left field at Camden. They also haven't played Mateo or Owings in the OF yet this spring. I'm also sort of over Akin.
  8. Re-doing this with a week left OF: same IF: same C : same SP: Means, Lyles, Zimmerman, Wells, Kremer? RP: Lopez, Scott, Fry, Tate, Baker, Bautista, Perez, Sulser, Akin, Lowther - honestly still little clarity here
  9. I think (hope) that the Aug 1 Orioles roster will be significantly more interesting then the opening day roster. Could conceivably see a starting lineup/rotation at that point of: Cf: Mullins LF: Hays RF: Santander/Stowers/Diaz 1b: Mountcaste 2b/3b/ss: Urias, maybe some combo of Ortiz/Westburg c : Adley SP: Means, Lyles, Bradish, Rodriguez, Hall That doesn't seem so bad?
  10. Officially optioned to, and per Elias will be staying behind in Florida to slowly build up innings. Frustrating, but given he hasn't pitched since last June can also understand the logic. Would love ot see him in Baltimore this summer though
  11. A number of you all are getting really worked up over a guy who slashed .161/.233/.265 at Triple-A last year, and .265/.341/.464 3 years ago in double-A because of 16 AB in spring training. Do I prefer him to Stewart? sure. But in terms of roster construction, where are his ML ab coming from? In place of Santander? Hays? Even if you're a fan of his, think he'd be better off getting regular at bats, showing he can hit Triple-A pitching, and waiting till Mancini or Santander get flipped, or the inevitable injury. Nobody cares if Stewart or McKenna sit for a week.
  12. You're aware that Martin is 27 right? The only 40 man Oriole position players born in an earlier year then him are Mancini and Stewart (there are several others who were also born in 94). Owings is older. Will be interesting to see who the Orioles play in the OF in the next week+. Given the new Camden Yards outfield, really hard for me to see any of Santander, Mancini, Diaz, or Stewart play LF or CF. Which means you'd be talking about all of them sharing 2 spots (RF/DH), with a smattering of 1b. Also I could be wrong.
  13. Will be interesting to see if any of Owings, Mateo, or Martin start to get any playing time in the OF, for versatility purposes (big difference between being a potential emergency fill-in, and the 4th/defensive OF)
  14. You DFA McKenna you're highly likely to lose him. And I have zero idea why on earth you'd drop your best defensive outfielder off the roster for *checks notes* Richie Martin? Also given how often he's been out injured, and how much he struggled last year, I highly suspect the Orioles would prefer Diaz to play everyday in Triple-A, rather then once or twice a week in the majors
  15. My vote is to keep Owings and Odor and drop Stewart. Not really sure what Stewart actually adds to anything. Also, while I know it's not as sexy as homeruns, Odor is a very good defender, something that none of our other MI candidates have a proven ability to do at the major league level.
  16. Because you have whatever Akin is doing (and Bauman). It's all early speculation anyways.
  17. Less then two weeks to go: OF: Hays, Mullins, Santander, McKenna - this position seems the most clear cut 1b/dh - Mountcastle, Mancini (with Mancini also being an OF option - they keep running him out there). Again seems clear cut IF - Odor, Urias, Mateo, Gutierrez, Owens - Urias starts somewhere, most of these guys have position flexibility C - Chirinos, pick a name as seat warmer for Adley SP - Means, Lyles, Wells, Zimmerman, Bradish - they seem to be open to Bradish making team, and no one else is making a huge push RP - Lowther, Scott, Lopez, Fry, Lakins, Sedlock, Tate, Vespi (?), Suler, Akin - total guess, Scott, Lopez, Sulser and Tate are probably locks. Lakins is having a good spring I think they would like the Diaz, Vavra, Stowers, Jones etc group to prove it at Triple-A first
  18. Just went and looked it up, major league avg for innings pitched per starter last year was 5. Orioles were the worst at 4.5, Tampa Bay was next at 4.6. Think the Orioles would be best served by re-thinking "starting" pitching, and stop trying to get much more then 4 out of guys not named Means (and maybe Lyles).
  19. The MLB avg for innings pitched by starter was 5 last year. So if Wells really could give you 5/game that would be major league avg & make him an exceptionally usefull starting pitcher
  20. Yes, and a couple of the other utility candidates could also play in a pinch. Especially with the new LF, I really think you need a third solid defensive outfielder who can handle both LF and CF
  21. I would assume Mayo goes to Aberdeen, especially since they've already brought him to big league camp. I wonder if they will start Cowser at double-A.
  22. Not sure I'd agree with this. He swung and missed exactly once. One could argue that he should have been more aggressive
  23. Didn't see a ton of Gunnar last year, but from some Milb stuff it does seem as if he takes a lot of pitches. I think this is part of the Orioles current hitting philosophy, that you swing at your pitch, rather then just any strike.
  24. Even pre-bruise would've taken McKenna over Stewart for 4th OF. If you need a 5th OF in a pinch Mancini can fill in. No idea what Stewart gives you
  25. Gunnar Henderson in at SS. Vavra in as well, definitely seem to be looking at him as a super utility type
