  1. And those innings were thrown to Severino and Sisco, ouch! I'm with you, I would prefer to give those guys some actual time and innings this year, to see if any of them can be pieces moving forward. As opposed to signing injury prone 36 year olds, or Odor.
  2. Essentially, I think several members of this board are "over" an entire group of O's "prospects" that are now in their mid-20's and have bounced back and forth between MLB and Triple-A. This is the group that Elias said had to step up, but many members here would just like to see replaced. Diplan, Akin, Bauman, A. Wells, Zimmerman, T. Wells, Matteo (basically most of the team) is all mid-20's. Given the struggles they've had in the majors over the last year or two, I get the sentiment. Cortes is a good example though of a guy who just needed some more time, and is now proving to be very good. Patience is sometimes rewarded
  3. I mean, but you really can't? Or you can see Bradish and G-Rod, but not Zimmerman and T. Wells who have both shown promise, and Hall. Starts are really a zero sum game. If you want to look at 5-6 guys as SP, you can't have a rotation with several already set pieces (obviously they also weren't counting on a season long injury for Means, but that's why you generally want 6 SP). Also I do not understand the Kluber love, he hasn't pitched even 100 innings since 2018...that's not really a guy you bring in to eat innings. And he's not old (for a ML pitcher)
  4. I think it's a matter of objective. I think this year is for seeing what the Orioles have with the group that they have that is all mid-20's. If you bring in older players, it reduces playing time. Maybe Matteo is a full time ML SS (I doubt it), but you don't know unless he plays. Diplan is part of that group, so is A. Wells, Akin, even a Hays. You bring in two veteran SP (they did sign Lyles) to go with Means, you only have two openings in the rotation coming out of spring and Zimmerman, T. Wells, eventually Bradish, Rodriguez, and Hall all of whom they want to look at as SP for two maybe three spots. Now, if they don't bring in free agents this coming off-season, I'll be over it. As to Bradish, I am assuming they are holding his debut for a home game, I'm guessing next homestand. I also predict home debuts for Adley and Rodriguez. The Orioles aren't pushing for the play-offs, and bringing up prospects for home games makes marketing sense (this is especially true of Grayson and Adley)
  5. Diplan and Wells are both 25, in terms of having one up or the other to see if they do better this year…I imagine both will get plenty of chances over the course of the year & I don’t really get getting worked up over either of them. Lakins I am assuming gets DFA’d for the Tuesday starter, but he wasn’t totally incompetent as a major league pitcher in 19 and 20, so having him in the bullpen doesn’t seem that extreme
  6. Prediction: if Bradish doesn't fall flat on his face in his start next weekend, he makes a start for the Orioles against the Red Sox that weekend series they come home
  7. Owings can play a bunch of positions and rosters are larger right now. But yeah his job is definitely in jeopardy. Orioles have bench issues right now in that all of their bench players are defense first, little to no bat. I'd like to see them bring up Vavra to play 2b everyday, and occasionally OF. Urias has positional versatility in the IF.
  8. Owings or Guiterrez need to go down, and call up Vavra
  9. Anyone you sign now off of free agency is probably a minimum of a month away from playing in MLB games anyways. And by and large they're unsigned for a reason. Hopefully by that point Bradish and Rodriguez are up, Zimmerman and Wells continue to develop and you have Lyles
  10. Starting today. Will say I don't think he'll be called up till he can make his first start in Baltimore. This will be even more true for Adley and Grayson I would expect. Just smart marketing.
  11. Nah, McKenna and Chirinos are Major league bench players, same probably with Matteo. It's just they're all defense first bench players, and so shouldn't be anywhere together in a lineup
  12. Diplan was the 40 man addition. If they want Ellis to start Tuesday, they'll need to make another 40 man move
  13. Even if he didn't need Tommy John, an elbow strain would be a couple month shut down, followed by a throwing program....and given he's getting a second opinion...the next thing we're going to hear on Means is surgery. This opened up the 40 man spot. Orioles have a couple other spots they can open by DFA Laskin and Smith.
  14. Diplan was added to the 40 man and has been brought up from Triple - A (like this move), Wells designated (instead of Laskin, which seems odd), and Means to 60 day :(. Wonder if this means the Orioles are planning on adding someone to the 40 man for the west coast trip. Probably Ellis?
  15. Today's Orioles line-up, and yeeesh...there is no rule that says you have to start your entire bench at once
  16. Agree, I think they're waiting for either (or both) Westbrook/Ortiz to force a promotion to Norfolk. Ortiz is off to a slow start, and I'm not sure Westbrook's 353 OBP really screams force a promotion either. He does have a 905 OPS though. Also hoping that part of the cascading dominoes is Vavra to Baltimore.
  17. You literally downvoted my post because I did math, and then claimed I made stuff up. Again this is why reading comprehension is fundamental, now - in a sentence - can have multiple meanings. It does not always mean recent, it can also be used to draw attention to a point, which is the way it was used in my original response. At the end of the day, I was pointing out that if you included the promotional cost of the ticket (which obviously you didn't pay regardless of how your tickets came about), and concession prices, going to the game was a good deal. And as multiple people have now pointed out, high concession prices at arena/sporting events/concerts is par for the course, and not due to an Orioles marketing deal. At least the Orioles let you bring in food/water, which the Ravens sure don't (and the concessions at Ravens park are really weak). As to the long lines and lack of vendors, I wonder if it's a result of the tight labor market, and the Orioles planning to staff for most games for 15000 people - not 30000.
  18. Lakins pitched well in the spring, and I actually didn’t mind the call up (given they wanted a multi-inning reliever). But last night was ugly.
  19. Reading comprehension is fundamental, you should try it
  20. UrIas looked potentially interesting last year, but he's been very bad to start this year
  21. Has Adley been sighted recently?
  22. To recap you got: 4 tickets, parking, 5 beers, soda in souvenir cup, and fries for around $85. Now you said the parking and tickets came from work, but acknowledged the promotion, so lets add $50 for a total of $135. Add to that hot dogs last night were 2 bucks (as part of the promotion). and you could choose to bring in your own food. 12 dollars for a 20oz beer just isn't out of the ordinary in 2022 at a stadium. It seems as if you feel because you got cheap tickets, you should also get to pay 1992 prices for crabcakes and beer as well. To me, it seems like you got pretty good value for your money, even if we add in the (promotional) cost of tickets, you're certinaly going to pay more per person for a movie ticket + two drinks
  23. I'm confused at people that are annoyed it's cashless. Using cards/phone is significantly faster. Anyways as to the vendors in the stands, generally those jobs are commission based, and with such low attendance last year it probably wasn't financially worth it for most games for the workers.
  24. Yes, and Adley has played 1b in the minors as well
  25. DL with elbow strain. Generally would mean no surgery, but shut down for a while
