  1. I’m not ready to lock Holliday in anywhere just yet. He’s got to prove he can handle the pressure and adjustments, all while staying healthy. There are enough 1/1 draft picks who never made the majors for reasons other than their potential.
  2. 25 walks in 51 innings this year doesn't look great, but when you put 29 hits for a 1.05 WHIP next to it, and see 76 K's, there's a lot to be encouraged about.
  3. Bemboom is still in Norfolk, along with Handley.
  4. I’m concerned about our inevitable AI Skynet overlords, but at least they’ll call a better game than that.
  5. This is good news, I can watch some of these games live! But Sunday against the Cubbies is a Peacock exclusive broadcast.
  6. I can't figure out Perez... but opponents sure have. He's throwing more curves (which isn't working) but this year the slider is his only reliable pitch. His FB has essentially the same velo and spin as before, but opponents hit .221 off that 4-seamer last year, and this year they're hitting .441. Walk rate up, and K rate is in the bottom 5 percentile of all MLB. In 2022 they hit .217 against him overall (so a team full of Jeff Tacketts) and this year it's .340, or an all-Lou Gehrig lineup. He's the person I least want to see pitching in any kind of close game right now. I think Coloumbe might be this year's Perez, but I hope they can find or trade for another lefty, if Perez can't be 'fixed'.
  7. Woof. I'm going to refer to this guy as "mea Kulpa" from now on.
  8. I expect a minor regression from Mullins and Hays, a moderate regression from Gibson, a moderate/severe regression from Cano (but hope I’m wrong), a moderate improvement for both Adley and Irvin (I think like Gunnar, Adley might decide soon to be less selective and more aggressive), and that Hicks might put together a decent “revenge” season if he can stay healthy.
  9. I agree, I don’t want him either, but people seem very willing to look the other way as long as that player is productive. There wasn’t a massive protest about Albert Belle when he hit 60 HR and drove in 220 over his two seasons here. And Delmon Young could literally slap Orioles fans in the face with money but they would still buy him a drink afterwards for his bases-clearing double in the ALDS.
  10. Gunnar's homer yesterday is tied for the 6th longest homer ever hit at Camden Yards (Miguel Cabrera also hit one 462 feet), and the longest homer ever hit there by a left-handed hitter.
  11. Give me a break. He gives a damn, but as he says, it won't change his life in any substantive way. Or yours. Or mine. It's a leisure/entertainment activity. Yes, your favorite sports team can be the sun around which your life orbits if you wish (and where I live soccer is the oxygen without which people act like they can't live), but regardless of the results of the ALDS, the globe will continue rotating and the sun will rise. I absolutely can't wait for them to win another World Series. But even when they do, I know the bills still need to be paid, sick people won't suddenly be cured, and my wife will just roll her eyes regardless.
  12. Lefties are hitting Bassitt far better this year than righties (.888 OPS vs .449 OPS). I'd probably roll with Lester over Mounty personally, but I don't believe they'll sit Mountcastle if he's no longer "under the weather".
  13. I’n also a prominent fan of Mateo, but he’s a black hole against RHP. The toe tap had a lot of people fooled earlier this year (myself included), but he just can’t hit righties. Or historically, LHP. If they could cut his swing down for more contact / less power I would be fully on board (but it’s the MLB, so that ain’t happening). I’m ready for Ortiz or whatever comes next.
  14. Irvin pitched about as well as could be hoped today. No walks, no homers. He’s going to need some solid defense behind him, but the greatest favor Hyde did was pulling him “early” in the 6th, assuring he would have a positive pitching line for the day. Hopefully that gives him some confidence going forward against tougher opponents.
  15. Urias hasn’t hit a single or drawn a walk in the 25 ABs since returning (he’s 2-for-25 with two doubles).
  16. Very sorry to hear that about your job, I hope you can find something as good if not better soon.
  17. Mazara was a minor league signing. Why get bent out of shape by any MiL deal?
  18. Most importantly (to me) they won the first game I have been able to attend in six years. Maybe that’s the good karma for buying tickets for five of my family members as well.
  19. He also unnecessarily got doubled off 2B on a soft liner that Adley hit at the left fielder, killing a potential rally. That was aggravating.
  20. So is it on Felix, or is it on Bautista? I’m torn.
  21. Def Leppard “Bringing On The Heartbreak” would have been an appropriate anthem for most of the recent seasons.
  22. This still seems much more palatable to me than the schedules in previous seasons when you’re facing the Yanks, Rays and Jays for something like 20 out of the last 27 games (or whatever it might be).
  23. Here is how this year’s club stacks up in terms of win/loss record against some historical Orioles teams at the same point in the season: 1966: 30-17 1969: 32-15 1970: 34-13 1971: 28-19 1979: 30-17 1983: 26-21 2023: 31-16 Solid company. If we can win two of three in New York, I think I’ll start mixing up my own batch of Kool-Aid.
  24. It’s one thing to think it (even though I thought Judge did nothing wrong) but it’s really dumb for him to say this on air.
  25. It seemed fitting to bump this one. Sure, easy schedule, yadda yadda yadda, but they won another series and have the second-best record in all of baseball.
