  1. Okay, with still another day to wait,I started playing OOTP ‘24 a few days ago. I’m managing one AB at a time rather than just rushing through it. I didn’t make any trades. After 30 games and a .500 record, the club is 1st in the AL in runs scored and OBP (.772), and dead last in ERA (5.59). In 34.2 IP, Cole Irvin has allowed 42 ER and 10 homers for a 10.90 ERA. At what point do you start to worry?
  2. D. I think if they had not made the mistake of mentioning “liftoff”, then by normal offseason standards this would be a C… maybe even a B. But they got our hopes up, unfairly, and then body slammed them.
  3. I don’t think they’re going anywhere either. I just like that a journalist is actually calling John’s trustworthiness into account for making an inane statement that he had no plans to ever honor.
  4. Good on The Sun for calling him out. Not that I think this will change anything, but he raises the fair point that if he’s untruthful about this, why should we believe other claims he’s made like that the team is staying in Baltimore?
  5. Also, I personally don’t see Westburg coming up unless/until we move Urias. Frazier’s going to have as long a leash as 8 million buys you.
  6. There’s this article on Frazier’s faith. I liked this quote from him: “Lusting can be a real struggle for me, and a lot of guys. It can be difficult at times, because it’s a real weakness.” I hope he’s willing to lust after a playoff spot.
  7. Weirdly very few for me from far away. About five days ago I had no access for 12 hours, but since then not a single one.
  8. I expect just above .500, like 83-86 wins… unless we get reinforcements. If the team trades early enough for a significant talent (notice I don’t say “talents”, clearly singular), then 87 to 92 wins, but somehow I feel that: (i) our collective expectations are perhaps too high on a number of unproven youngsters with little to no MLB experience; (ii) injuries could easily kill this team, something the club was fortunately light on last year; or (iii) if anything goes amiss on those first two points, I don’t see ownership ponying up whatever it costs to overcome that. We’ll just… bring up Lewin Diaz, or trade Stowers away to get the 2023 edition of Michael Morse, or whoever.
  9. webbrick, finally revealed.
  10. I can’t wait until Boog’s is converted into a scratch-off lottery ticket kiosk.
  11. I just love that some people made assumptions for Gunnar’s productivity based on 100 ABs last year, and now those same people are doubting him over 21 ABs.
  12. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Field at Squatty Potty Park.
  13. Hoffman is definitely a dark horse candidate to make the club, but it’s a good story, and hey, he’s got all three of our ST saves.
  14. Are you going to add Nolan Hoffman to the list? Even if he's a long shot, there was a pretty cool article on mlb.com here about his debut in a big-league stadium the other day, and Hyde had some positive words about him.
  15. I can’t see that a pitch clock will prove a disadvantage to good hitters, except perhaps in the very short term. Both sides are accustomed to having more time — once hitters realize that pitchers are also under equal pressure, I think the smarter, more patient hitters will see it as an overall advantage. Good hitters live off mistakes, after all, and even if you can’t adjust your batting gloves and/or jock every pitch (Nomar style) you can still capitalize on a hanger.
  16. I scream this at the SETI program a lot.
  17. I think I see a silhouette of John Waters in there.
  18. I’m not endorsing using VPNs here since they’re not legal for all uses, but some VPNs do work with mlb.tv and their blackout restrictions while others don’t. So a different VPN may get better results.
  19. The O’s patch next year should just be the face of Adam Frazier, snd then they could tell people, “this is what we bought with our patch money.”
  20. You just wounded the feelings of Kevin and Amy Supersportsbook, proprietors.
  21. You literally beat me to that comment. Which I’m fine with… it simply needed to be said. Thanks.
  22. The problem is that you never really know which of these FA’s would have accepted an offer from the Orioles in first place. In some cases we could have — or might have — offered the same deal (or even 10% more) and still not signed them.
  23. “Does anyone else notice that the Edgar Allen Poe hologram has a voice an awful lot like Scott Garceau?”
