  1. I knew it seemed bad, but didn't realize they were 9-14 this year on Sunday until I looked it up just now. Btw, I had no idea this site existed till today, either.
  2. Thank you! I'll probably be up all night now that I know where this is.
  3. Speaking as just a casual fan, but where does one find those stats? I don't subscribe to any advanced metric sites and mainly look at Baseball Reference when curious. I just don't know where to even start on such a deep dive.
  4. A direct descendant of St. Nicholas now pitching for the A's. Eat, Santa, eat!
  5. When are the O's gonna maybe do the opposite of just that. It doesn't seem to be working. Time for a new approach.
  6. I voted with my heart, which means "yes". But I'm enough of a realist to know that some huge breaks are going to have to go their way in addition to some exhibiting consistent playoff caliber baseball on the field. So I'm contributing to the playoff vibe with my positive attitude.
  7. Much love to @JustD. I loved Weams and his enthusiasm, easy manner, his wisdom, all-out fandom of the O's. I was clearing voicemails off of my phone this week and saw two from him from last summer about my upcoming trip to see him, and I could not bear to get rid of those. I kept his and some from my Mom. I think of ScOtt whenever I'm in a game thread and some comment makes me laugh or if in my daily life some great guitar video comes to my attention (we followed each other on YouTube outside of OH). What a huge heart he had for the things and people he loved. What's hits hard is that those were two members here I actually knew outside of the board. There are two more I stay in touch with and have seen numerous times in person and one other that I have not seen in person, but we are in touch on Twitter and some music related matters. I treasure those ongoing friendships. So these two are so missed. But there are others here that I feel like I know and it speaks to the quality of the community here. And these folks were huge parts of it. I did not know Doc Shorebird (love the username), but wishing his family and friends comfort as this season progresses. Thinking of JustD as she goes through today. She has been super kind to my family with some recent sadness and particularly to my wife in a recent visit to Baltimore.
  8. Thanks for researching it more deeply. I knew someone would. My expertise is in music and adding the occasional joke on OH. As the John Goodman character in Big Lebowski said to "Donnie", I'm out of my depth.
  9. I think this may be it. Looking for a fatigue factor, I was looking at how many games he played in the Minors last year and it was 123. Not sure how many were at catcher. The other 8 batters (not named Gunnar) overall have struggled vs. the same pitchers. This year, he had 20 Minor League games, some probably DH as part of rehab for the injury. This year, he's had 68 games catching in Baltimore out of the 83 he's played in since May 21. 17 were as DH. He's pinch hit twice that I know of, once in July to help beat Rays in extra innings in Tampa and then last night. Adding in however many he caught in the Minors this year plus his Orioles work load (and factoring in days off and DH from here on), it doesn't look like he'll catch more games this year than he did in the Minors in '21.
  10. Starting Sept. 2, 1969, the Mets went 23-7 down the stretch to catch and pass the Cubs (who were 6.5 games up on them) on that date. I don't foresee this for the O's (But I can easily see the Rays passing NY, though), but it's interesting to look back on those who did accomplish it. Here's a breakdown of difficulty of schedule that was posted early this morning. These are the just ones who are in contention for a postseason berth in the AL East. Yankees Opponent winning percentage: .502 Blue Jays Opponent winning percentage: .486 Orioles Opponent winning percentage: .517 Rays Opponent winning percentage: .537 "Perhaps not surprisingly, the four most difficult schedules are all for teams from the AL East that, of course, all have to play each other. Much of this comes down to how many games everybody has against the rest of the East. The Yankees have 18, with six against Boston (which, while in last place, is still in fact Boston); the Blue Jays have 25, the O’s have 20, the Rays have 21 … plus six against Houston (and three against first-place Cleveland). That gives the Rays the toughest stretch moving forward, though you can’t help but think the AL Wild Card is going to come down, one way or the other, to those 10 games between Toronto and Baltimore, starting with a doubleheader on Monday. The team that’s the happiest about all these AL East battles: Seattle. Definitely Seattle." https://www.mlb.com/news/strength-of-schedule-for-2022-playoff-contenders
  11. These two come to mind, but I am not sure either had 15 or so game leads earlier in the season. But if you want to take about September collapses, these are two of the most famous. - The '64 Phillies had a 6.5 game lead on the Cardinals as late as Sept. 20th and then blew it. - And then there's the Cubs in '69 getting overtaken by the Mets. The Cubs lost 17.5 games in the standings over the last quarter of the season. The "The Cubs ultimately lost 17 of the last 25 games of the season, while the Mets went 23–7 to overtake the Cubs and finish eight games ahead of them. It was one of the most astounding late season collapses in history, with the seventeen-game turnaround being one of the biggest ever."
  12. I actually do like several there that I see. First I've seen of the Chaos shirt, though. I want one with the hands or the bird making the binocular sign. The site is associated with Josh and Matt of the Section 336 podcast. https://www.birdlandstore.com
  13. I heard that twice at Pet Smart some time ago. Even when my hair was short. And oddly enough, I once raced go-karts with Kirk Hammett's guitar tech.
  14. Me about four years ago about a block from OPACY. Interesting choice of fingers. I could have sworn they were both one digit over. Oh well. You know what I was thinking.
  15. I wasn't pulling for that. Just stating the trend. Jays may indeed pass them.
  16. Anyone think Yanks may finish 3rd in AL East? I really feel 2nd place is a strong possibility. Rays are coming on strong. And Jays are on the Rays' heels.
  17. There is a two for one special called the DP if you want to try it.
  18. If I saw him on To Tell The Truth lined up with some other small athletes, I would have guessed they were all jockeys. 5'8" and 166 lbs (with rocks in his pocket).
