  1. If you fill up most of your position players with quality talent. Pitchers will come here to win, regardless of the distance to the OF wall. If you suck, pitchers will tend to go anywhere but here.
  2. Except that Angelos is the reason they didnt have more winning seasons. He was responsible for the 14 year black period in Oriole history. That was a pretty good Oriole team in 96-97 and had a chance for more ALCS trips, then just those 2. He is also the reason they went back in the tank, after the Blue Jays came kicking DD's tires. DD has a decent core built, good enough to ride herd on the rest of the AL East for 5 years. Wish it had been longer. I like winning.
  3. Is there a possibility, none of this was Elias doing and maybe even started before his arrival?
  4. I was talking about a switch hitter the other day, and one of the numnuts in the conversation, thought that I was talking about a bi-sexual person, he said, never heard it called switch hitting before. Im like dude, in the middle of an long conversation about baseball, why would this be anything but a baseball term.?
  5. Personally, I was okay with it, just wish they had left it alone.
  6. That is, if congress could even manage what they are supposed to be doing, like running the nation.
  7. Im sorry, was not trying mislead, just need to type my thoughts better. You cant compare NASCAR tickets or TV money, I agree. But, when comes to selling, team tee-shirts, jackets, hats, and other NASCAR memorabilia like collector cars, etc. There is a huge market, and they make a ton of their money off it. Been trying to find an old article posted before COVID, that compared NASCAR with the other USA sports, and it was shocking at the amount, it was not better than the NFL.
  8. merchandize sales. NFL has more TV/Cable deals. Ticket revenue cant be compared either. As you dont have so many races in the race season. There are more NFL teams, than NASCAR team. But comparing income from the sales of team sponsored items, NASCAR sales were strong.
  9. Not that I follow NASCAR, but based on revenue alone, NASCAR was outranking MLB before covid days. People hate all baseball commishs, more than the other sports. Doom and gloomers have been talking the demise of baseball since the free agent period started.
  10. in the past, you had thinner pocketed owners among the fatcats like Steinner. These days, Im pretty sure they are heavy hitters, with Angelos, probably one of the lower end ones. They sure didnt bat an eyelash, and took the high ground, refusing to even negotiate a new cba.
  11. MLB is going to play a simple game of chicken with the CBA, the rich fatcat owners can survive without their baseball money.
  12. Im not shocked that MLB is doing nothing.
  13. It just seams to be dragging on, and that was before covid hit. Its probably just me, but dang, running out of patience.
  14. Thats a great move, and that should help at some point, it really should. Until then, we just sit around, playing cheap and pretend to building.
  15. Ok, so that was a very serious hire and you are right. But, show me the serious player transactions, other than a number draft pick or 2.
  16. The problem I have, we call this a rebuild and a WIP. Other than some draft picks, what serious transaction have this team shown, that they are focus on building a contender?
  17. You got that right. I guess, is the old thing, where my crap aint really worth anything, but I think its worth way.
  18. I doubt it. Not like the other teams dont know if he cant play catcher.
  19. They are starved for any bat LH or RH, that can produce quality at bats at the MLB level.
  20. Frank Howard while a right hand batter, was pretty strong and known for hitting long distance shots, getting one out of Tiger stadium is no easy feat, he also had a shot in Yankee stadium that hit the façade. But, as strong as he was, he never had the distance that Mantle and Ruth did. The balls must have been juiced in that ERA.
  21. You cant teach movement, either you can throw and get movement on your ball, or you cant. He has a cracker jack arm.
  22. My memory seams to recall that Brad threw very hard, 100+ MPH, but with no movement on his fast ball, it would get knocked out of the park pretty regularly.
  23. Not a popular guy because of his being an idiot off the field. But 2014, Young had a pretty good year for the Orioles.
  24. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game 26 future HOFers were present at this game. pretty incredible lineup and bench for both sides.
