  1. Good post and rather than trade for a first baseman, the Red Sox are about to play the non-first baseman Schwarber at first base.

    Wait til Friday.
  3. Is there a source that evaluates the median value for a team from an amateur draft?
  4. I don't know if we would have really paid him $3M or if that's just something being said but thank goodness we didn't. I don't have any faith in that K rate being corrected.

The Bowie OBP is .410 right now.
  6. How on earth do you get "I want to criticize them" out of this? The only point to the whole discussion was that it wasn't unreasonable to discuss an extension with someone in the minor leagues. You've twisted about as far as possible to create an argument out of this. You go have fun with it.
  7. Agreed. But I think there needs to be more invested, adding a solid reliever and infielder. Hopefully 2 starters.
  8. Not one clue. I don't have the information available to make smart decisions about that. But even though I'm not the one to make those decisions, I do believe the O's should be considering possibilities and I think they will. May not work out, but I hope they're at least checking.
  9. My only point was that it is, indeed, possible to sign a guy presently in the minor leagues to such an extension. You're dissatisfied with that. It seems like a reasonable point. Maybe consider signing an extension with Adley Rutschman or Grayson Rodriguez. That's not enough for you now so you require me to give you specific figures on what I believe would be proper so that you, as a message board poster can then criticize me, as a message board poster for my lack of knowledge as I sit here on my living room couch with 3 dogs drinking a cheap beer. I can tell you this. The O's employ very smart individuals to decide those things. They have degrees from prestigious schools that have ivy on the walls. They sit in a room as a group with their spreadsheets and analysis and consider signings over the years that far eclipses my 10 second Google search. They no longer allow me in those rooms for fear that I will walk out with the engraved coffee cups and silverware. I'll concede this point to you because clearly I was not fully prepared to participate in this discussion without figures for a 7 year contract proposal for you to consider, because less would not merit your attention. My point was they should explore an extension with Adley and Grayson. Silly me.
  10. Thank goodness for the 3 options.
  11. The generalization was your statement that they wouldn't sign anyone in the minors so it's a non-starter. That was the point of my post. You should at least explore it.
  12. If they bring back essentially "this roster" for Opening Day, Severino is replaced with a defense only catcher, Stewart, Franco, Valdez gone, with the only FA signings being a Franco equivalent third baseman and say Matt Harvey and Lopez or equivalents brought back, would you feel good about that? You'd reasonably expect Rutschman after his early season "polishing" is finished, maybe Neustrom and Jones start the year with the O's. You could expect some bounce back from one of Akin, Lowther, or Kremer. Maybe Zimmerman finishes this year where you feel good about him. Rodriguez and Baumann up by the end of May/early June. Would that be enough?
  13. Trae Turner accounting for a large portion of that, with his 1.3 years of control.
  14. The offseason will be interesting. IMO, they have to invest $10M to $15M in FA signings if you want any hope of turning things around anytime soon. Obviously you shouldn't trade Fry, Scott, Sulser, etc unless you get a good offer. But if you're not going to participate in the trade market, you have to invest in some FA's. Or you have to understand that player development is going to be a long, long process. I think it's reasonable to expect some FA investments this offseason at a higher market rate, meaning $3M and $4M signings instead of $1M signings.
  15. Right. That was a part of his original contract with the O's.
  16. Could be or they may have done what they could to send him where he wanted to go so maybe they can sign him back. No idea.
  17. Tonight's game probably tells the tale. Does he become an All Star? Or should he be released?
  18. Maybe we'll pick up Tyler Chatwood for the stretch run.
  19. Would have preferred a 17 year old lottery ticket but it's not like I'm upset about it.
  20. Not thrilled about the return being cash considerations.
  21. And #17 and an unranked. Heck of a deal for the LAD.
  22. Right. That'll be the configuration through the WS but now the Dodgers have their shortstop for next year and don't have to pay Seager, or they get him at a discount. They're just loaded with talent.
  23. Pretty impressive. Seager becomes a free agent they no longer need after this year and they still have a top shortstop.
  24. Not stale, just poor internet coverage. Gotta have some visuals to keep the faith. I'd sure like to be involved in the trade deadline thing though. If the only hope is "coach 'em up", I might lose a bit of faith.
