Agreed. Either the agent did a poor job or there's a very unusual motivation behind those choices. The agent did not improve his client's position at all.

He's been clear from the day he was hired what the plan was. It's inconceivable that ownership was not 100% on board or they would not have hired him. I understand that you want the major league team to win. However, if you're not aware of what progress has been made, what changes have been implemented, and how much work has been done, then you're not paying attention. Probably any one hired as a GM would take a somewhat different route, in some way. Maybe a different draft pick, maybe more emphasis on pitching early, maybe different trades or free agent signings. The O's finally have a clear plan in place. That plan has not placed emphasis on major league success to date. It focuses on obtaining a pipeline of young talent at the minor league level. That is being done. Thanks for sharing what you would do. A different plan and path was chosen. And it's not changing tomorrow or next week or next month. Hopefully the emphasis changes in a big way, based on progress that is being made now, today, next week, and next month... for the '23 season. But I wouldn't expect it until then.

Acquired in the Jose Iglesias trade, Garrett didn't have good months in A+ in May and June. In 4 starts and 19 IP in July, he has a 0.95 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 15 K's and 3 walks. Long way to go for this control pitcher who was the Friday night guy for Tennessee in college (5th round pick by the Angels) and grew up in Chesapeake, Va but July was a step in the right direction.

But still say they drafted the wrong guys and just overpaid lesser talent.

I think $3.5M to $4M lets you sign a starter who brings pretty good value. If we do that with the right 2 guys, we'll could have some assets come next July when hopefully some young guys are demanding starting slots.

In terms of "start contending", I think anyone at AA or even A+ but ready for promotion fits the timetable.

He's had a year and a half at Bowie but just 17 games at Norfolk. Would he benefit more by playing 50 straight games at Norfolk or playing when he can with the O's? I tend to think the organization sees a ceiling on him that regular playing time in AAA wouldn't fix. But I definitely agree that the defense and baserunning are a breath of fresh air. And at .240, he would add a lot of value.

The O's have been careful with Means all year. He just came off the IL. But he gets sent out for the 7th at 75 pitches. Makes my simple little mind think trade talks and a potential buyer wanted to see him pitch deeper in a game.

That's certainly his attitude. He butchered guys at Illinois State. Had some players though, Paul DeJong, Brock Stewart, Will Headen, Dylan Craig.

Not sure either but I feel pretty good about Mendoza plus a PTBNL. Mendoza was a 3rd round pick in '19 that they paid $800,000 which was above slot. A power and patience guy with too much swing and miss right now. If Harvey is a guide, what is Lopez worth as a 4 inning guy?
