  1. The HS arm you're referencing is Brady Aiken who was damaged goods. They couldn't do a physical on him until after he was drafted. That's when it was discovered. They never offered him enough to sign him so he went back in the draft. Correa was a special pick because Elias had done a huge amount of background work on him and believed he had more information than other teams, and he likely did.
  2. I think it's Cowser unless Lawlar or Watson falls. Might be Cowser anyway. I agree that a pitcher at 1-5 is not likely at all. It's interesting that a few mocks talk about Rocker being limited to only a few teams in the top 9-10.
  3. Or maybe Michael McGreevy is a more projectable than either. Higher floor guy. It'll be interesting to see what the choice is if there are 2 college arms Elias feels real good about and 2 HS bats that may have more ceiling but also more risk. If the internal evaluations say Bednar and McGreevy have a very good chance to wind up a solid #3 starter or say House and Watson are also on the board, what's the choice? I'm not going to be upset if we don't follow the mock projections.
  4. Bednar was definitely better that game. The key is what will each of those guys look like in 24 months? Who has ceiling and who has limits. And I don't think that information is readily available.
  5. Good post. I think Ty Madden would be another college pitcher in consideration.
  6. The underslot pitcher IMO is Sam Bachman if the O's go that route.
  7. Me too, especially since someone out of Henderson, Westburg, Ortiz or Hernaiz should be taking that job in about 24 months.
  8. Depending on who is available, I wouldn't feel terrible about Cowser. I would if we passed on Lawlar or Leiter though.
  9. Probably not. Next hit will be with the O's after they sign him to a 10 year contract and bring him up Thursday so he can learn.
  10. He's on the Delmarva roster.
  11. Take a look at the bottom of page 3 thread "Connolly trade thoughts" and see what some former GM's say about his trade value. I tend to think he'll bring 2 top 10's plus another piece.
  12. Thanks for this. Hope you'll keep doing them when warranted.
  13. Hahaha. I knew you would be all over that! Bowie? Or straight to the O's after he signs the Ozzie Albies abusive contract?
  14. Yorkislandy Alvarez is 5-12 in 3 games with Delmarva.
  15. Have you seen any talk of what's different for him this year? K's still a little too high, 50 in 156 AB's. If he can get close to a JJ type, I'd be thrilled.
  16. Saw Grenier take a fairly difficult play and make it look real easy today. I want to believe in his bat but I can't quite get there yet. Hope he sustains what he's been doing, or builds on it.
  17. Yeah, I'm with you there. I haven't watched any of the group enough to feel strongly. Ortiz and Hernaiz seem to have the defensive rep. Hopefully one hits enough. And the guy who winds up being the long time SS may not be in the organization yet. Also, the "less ground balls"...you're obviously correct but I think that's going to head the other way soon with spin rates going down. Maybe not drastically but at least some pitchers will have to adapt.
  18. I think the Brewers are far more likely as you've said but not sure I'd want Hiura back. Ethan Small plus should be a starting point.
  19. Paul Fry is a more likely target for ATL. They could add someone with Arcia.
  20. Agree with everything you said. Very good post. I was half listening to MLB radio the other day when they were talking about how the shortstop position has changed over the last 20 years. A bigger guy with a cannon for an arm plays much more favorably in todays game than they would have 20 years ago. And then, Dan Connolly had a scout tell him this: The scout told me that Henderson, a 2019 second-rounder, might be the best player he’s seen so far this year from an upside perspective. And then he dropped this hammer. “He reminds me of Corey Seager.”
