First you said Elias made typically awful picks. Then you said you only meant the first round were typically awful. He's only had 3 drafts.  I'm assuming you didn't think Adley was a typically awful pick. That leaves Kjerstad and Cowser. I'm assuming you thought they were the typically awful picks?   If I'm wrong, please clear it up for me.

Correct. Adley was the guy. Kerjstad was upset over def but get the strategy…def, agree with you. Cowser (who I don’t dislike at all) was a bad pick. You know who I wanted. You are rebuilding…you want to be strong up the middle and with good pitching. Adley check. SS over another corner outfielder and not even close. Just a dumb pick imo. Frustrating.

As much as I haven't liked some of Elias' picks, I don't see him picking a defensively limited player with the 1st pick.  If he does, I'll give him the abuse he deserves.  DJ Stewart wasn't an Elias pick.  Picking Berry first would be like picking Stewart in the top 10.

Berry def profiling bc much higher than Stewart lol but agree completely. Parrada is supposed to be an elite bat. Limited position. Rizzo of the Nationals likes him, he does a great job so trust his judgment.

Again, how special is the bat?   He's a 3B and quiet possibly a future 1B.   That bat better be super special!    Jones is a true CF and probably a GG caliber CF.   Green can play CF but probably winds up in RF.   Johnson is probably a 2B.    Brooks Lee is probably a 3B or 2B but there's an outside chance he can stick at SS.     All of these players are supposedly good offensive players.   Give me the guy who can play some defense.    In that case, I'm thinking Jones and Lee are probably the 2 best combination players factoring in defense and offense.    Perhaps you can throw Termarr Johnson in there as well as the reports on his hand, first step quickness, and throwing accuracy are all good.

Collier would be a typical awful Elias pick, Berry too. Elias should not take anyone outside of Jones, Holiday, Lee, Green & Parrada. Period.

    Lee isn’t really defensible either.

Even Elias has said this draft has a lot of high level HS talent at the top of it.  You have to go after that level of talent.

He clearly doesn’t have to based on his last draft. 😂😂😂 Lee profiles as a 3b/2b. Jones & Holiday have much greater upside (higher risk of course but strong family pedigrees).

Does Jones project to have above average offense, or is his value based more his defensive abilities? I’m of the opinion that we should go with the best bat, and figure out where to put them in the field at a later date. If that means picking Johnson or Holliday or Green over a slick CF like Jones then so be it.

Parrada is the best bat def.

If Hall comes up, I would think it would be better for him to work in an Akin type role.  Come in for 2 or 3 innings after the starter has faltered or just to give the bullpen a break.  I was against bringing him up until September, but now I don't see the harm.  He's not going to cost the O's a playoff spot.  Maybe the ML instruction could help him when minor league instruction does not seem to be helping.

    Nailed it. Agree completely.

What sort of deal does Elias have to have in place to send Hays to a contender before the deadline? A Top 100? 2-3 Organizational Top 10s? 3-5 total prospects?

Hays is becoming a 5 tool guy. His arm is a cannon, He's a capable CF playing GG level Corner OF.  He runs well, but doesn't steal bags much. 25-30 HR power is possible and the current OPS+ is 133

However, I almost feel like he needs to show other teams that 1) he can be healthy for a couple seasons in a row, which I think if he plays 140+ games this year, he proves, and 2) he can put up consistent numbers, which he may need to show with a strong finish this year and a good first half next year.

If he shows this, he could get the return I discussed above. I guess my question is, would a team give that up now?

Why are we trading our best players?

He looks completely different than Wieters did when we brought him up.

It would be stunning if he wasn’t a far better player.

And looks like a jaguar in comparison speed wise lol

I voted for Prieto, but I think the answer is Odor, unless the OP was implying that players already on the ML team are not included.

Didn’t someone mention him going to the braves? Pure speculation?

Berry is not a player you pick at 1:1.  What is he going to be a defensively challenged 1B in the majors?  Unless he's comparable to David Ortiz (fat chance), that's a terrible pick.

He would also be an awful 1, agreed.

for me it’s (spitballing for now):

    jones

holiday or Lee, undecided still, tough one

    parrada or green (undecided)
