Be wary teams that have lots of draft picks...

Recommended Posts

The Rays have 12 picks in the first two rounds of this year's draft - enough to re-load an already-deep farm system. But as Jim Callis of Baseball America explains, teams with lots of early picks haven't done particularly well, historically speaking.

Unfortunately, I can't access the Baseball America article. Is this true though? Given the amount of picks that TAM, TOR and BOS have in this year's draft, I'd like for history to repeat itself again. :D

Yes and no. True, but a number of Jim's examples (as he explains) fail due to teams reaching for more signable picks. Obviously you aren't going to hit on 12 guys, but if Tampa lands 3 ML regulars before the 2nd Round, that's a huge deal.
