Minnesota: Orioles can't win, Yankees can't lose

I dunno, tonight's loss just seems like a test of resolve or something. The first run scored after an infield squib and some borderline calls from the ump. O'Day gave up two bloopers. The O's didn't deserve to lose tonight, but sometimes the baseball gods are not kind.

Dude he Walked the lead off guy and hit a batter. He stunk.

I put it on another thread but it bears repeating.....

Since 2002, the Twins are 27-69 against New York (and 2-12 in the playoffs)....and they are about 70 games over .500 against the REST OF THE MAJORS. It is nearly impossible for me to respect a franchise that is so weak against another MLB franchise, so to have them going 5-0 against us this year is completely unacceptable to me. We could never get Molitor out when he was a player, so I guess this just carries over? Who knows. Either way, this season has been depressing in a way....kind of like hoping that you can save a relationship that you both know is not going to work. We are mathematically alive and well, but it feels like we are dead.

I am so tired of hearing Showalter's mumbo jumbo gobbledygook. He was asked about getting prepped for game 3 of the series and said, "As opposed to what? You don't have any alternatives. It's where you are and the world we live in. It's tough, but we've had some really good wins that maybe didn't look that way for a long time. The baseball gods aren't always kind to you. You wear it and try to come back and know tomorrow you have a chance to have a different feeling.

"They're fighting for the same thing we are and we're going to get everybody's best shot. We're not sneaking up on anybody and that's a good thing because the things our guys have done in the past."

That is as clear as mud.

The bigger the game the less I trust Oday. He wasn't good against KC in the plages last year either I believe. Maybe he has been over used ?

Clearly stating that there is no time to dwell on a game that got away from them. That Minnesota is right in the wild card and is going to give them their best shot. That his team has been here in the past and knows what it has to do.

The Indians historically have given the Yankees shudders.

Twins got three runs last night thanks to free baserunners. Bases loaded walk forced in first run (Chen was ahead 0-2 to batter, I believe), second and fourth run reached base via walk and HBP.

Look what taking a base can do for you.

Cool.

Two examples that immediately come to mind are the 1954 Indians, who hold the all-time record for winning percentage by an American League team when they went 111-43 (.721) in a 154-game season. They prevented the Yankees from making the postseason that year and having a chance to win their 6th straight World Series, even though the Highlanders went 103-51 (.669.)

13 years earlier, Ken Keltner made a couple of excellent backhanded stops at 3rd base to help put an end to Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak.
