Are some stats totally meaningless?

I think that most of the "stats" that dribble endlessly from the mouths of Jim Thorne and Jim Palmer during a game are meaningless. I wonder if they are aware of the term "too much information."

Palmer isn't too bad, but most of the "stats" from the mouths of announcers and graphics on TV are pretty close to useless. They're often stuck in 1983, believing that splits of splits of splits, like "he's hitting .382 on Tuesday night games!" is worth something.

Either that or they're just trying to fill airtime and have nothing more interesting to say.
