Is this the guy who took Zach Watson in the 3rd round?

Would that matter to you if he also took Joey Ortiz in the 4th round?   Pretty tough to find even the best of the best evaluators who didn’t miss on some top 3 rounds picks.  The Oriole drafts have been particularly good in the 1st 2 rounds, not so great 3rd round and later which makes sense.

I am sure that Elias has the “next person up” perspective as far as being ready to replace Ciolek.  However, when you look at the turnover of staff from the previous regime, just about everyone left.  It speaks to the competency of Ciolek, and how well he was able to speak the new “language” of the folks coming in.  Definitely a good hire for the Nationals.  They are cleaning house, and that is something with the state of their talent development system that was needed in the worst way.
