  1. Well, you also need to consider that Adley has always hit better when he DH’s than when he catches. Some of that may be because he tends to DH against LHP, but not all of it.
  2. How ‘bout when Cowser made that throw that was halfway up the first base line? And actually, Cowser’s been quite terrible the last two weeks, .114/.262/.171. That’s basically the line that got him sent back to Norfolk last year. I will be glad to have Hays back and give the O’s more flexibility to match up. Assuming his bat returns to normal, which I believe it will.
  3. What an ass. I actually found the substance of his posts to be useful and detailed. But he just couldn’t stop being obnoxious to other posters.
  4. I’m not necessarily against this, just because Kjerstad needs more opportunity to show what he can do. Not sure it’s an upgrade but I wouldn’t mind finding out.
  5. Note the pitch that got O’Hearn and Hyde thrown out of the game. Not the worst call of the day, but one of them.
  6. I do not think Holliday has the extra year yet. I may be misremembering, but I think if a team options a player to the minors and recalls that player within 20 days, the intervening service time is reinstated. The purpose is to prevent teams from keeping a player below service time limits by giving them a short trip to the minors. Holliday was optioned on April 26, so he needs to stay in the minors until at least May 16 for his service time not to be reinstated. After that, he will not be able to earn a full year of service unless he finishes in the top two for Rookie of the Year.

Didn’t notice. I guess someone fixed it, cuz I didn’t.
  9. It’s almost bizarre, given the “swing decisions” mantra of the last several years. The team was steadily getting more patient, and then it wasn’t. I think it’s a reaction to how they’re being pitched, but perhaps an overreaction.
  10. It was never about his talent. The kid could never stay healthy while we had him.
  11. wildcard has always been kind of obsessed with single season (or partial season) platoon splits. But first of all, in the context of 2024 so far, Mountcastle’s “bad” .711 OPS vs. RHP is still good for an above average 104 sOPS+. Second of all, I consider his career split of .740 vs. RHP over 1,344 PA to be a more meaningful indicator of how Mountcastle is likely do going forward, compared to the 87 PA he’s had this year. So I’m not in any hurry at all to change his role. Does it bear watching? Only if it goes south of where things are now for a significant period of time, IMO.
  12. It’s a 162 game season. Teams don’t hit on all (or even most) cylinders all the time. Meanwhile they’ve won 6 of their last 8 games. Hardly time to get real worried, even if the offensive downturn lasts another few days.
  13. Hard to argue with you. I could see him as a very useful 4th OF.
  14. That’s not how I see it. You’re in a 1-0 game, the strategy is different than 3-0. For example, Cedric had a one-out single in the 8th inning, down 3-0. There was no reason for him to attempt a steal then, but if it’s 1-0, maybe he does try it. Anyway, I don’t want to take this too far off track. I just wish Adley was throwing a little better.
  15. I’m not saying they are trying harder. But they have a good ability to stay focused following adversity. For example, last year the bullpen blew 31 saves, but only 15 losses resulted because the offense was able to retake the lead so often. That’s not easy to do.
