  1. Obviously we hope he does ell, but this kind of scares me: After ten starts his xwOBA is in the 1 percentile of all qualifying pitchers. That's not good. It will be interesting to see if there is any change in his stuff after his "IL" stint the Orioles have been using the IL to get players back to Florida and have them work on things. Let's see if there is a change.
  2. The only clarifying point I'd like to make here is Vavra is a not an Adley/Henderson type of prospect. Those guys are impact, everyday prospects while Vavra is probably more of a potential every day regular at 2B, or possibly a 4th outfielder type. It seems to me that they don't think Vavra's defense at 2B is good enough to play there every day. They could be right since I'll admit I've not watch every game at Norfolk to see how his defense is. When I have seen him I do get the feeling he's adequate at best defensive 2B. In my mind, if the team really thought he was the 2B of the future, he would have been playing there a lot more in AAA instead of CF. Now, we are 100% on the same page that I think he should be playing over Odor who is a below average player in every metric that we can find. It would be nice to see if Vavra's bat will play at the major league level and why not do that when he plays the position of the worse player in the regular starting lineup. Regardless, if the Orioles were planning on just sitting him on the bench, why not call up Martin? Martin is a bench guy at best so why not bring him up when Arauz went down? Just a bit of a headscratcher for me. Saying all that, the Orioles ended up winning 3 or 4 from the Rays while all this went down, so I guess it really didn't matter more than just giving us something to discuss.
  3. I'm not really a big nickname guy anyways, but any big guy can be a mountain. A beast is scary!
  4. He very well could end up a better hitter than Adley. Think about if Henderson was coming out this year if he gone to college. He definitely would have been the 1-1. Luckily for us, he's in our system and we got another 1-1 shortstop in Holliday.
  5. 104EV, 424 ft oppo-center? That's big boy stuff.
  6. I have little doubt he'll see AAA this year if he keeps this up. Maybe sooner than later. Cowser could be in the OF mix next year with the Orioles.

    Coby Mayo 2022

Stay on subject please. I will hide the off topics posts but will start dinging people soon. You guys know better than to derail threads. BTW, still no news on Mayo. Disappointing how long he's been out.
  8. Best thing about thee home runs are they not cheapies! Cowser certainly looks like the guy they thought they were getting when they took him so high. I'll take the uptick in strikeouts for the power. Since Mayo has been hurt, he's probably jumping him on the power rankings next week and could be closing in on Hall.
  9. I love everything about The Beast. He has ice water in his veins, and the stuff, wow!! I probably should have moved him up even higher in the rankings last year.
  10. Ok, I'm at work and just checked in and saw inside the park homer for Mancini. What happened?
  11. Wow, ballsy call on 3-2 with the slider, but great pitch.
  12. It certainly helps being #1 on the waiver wire claim during this time, but yes, I agree, Elias/Sig have found some good ones on the waiver wire since 2020. I was going to go back and do some analysis to see what they learned from the initial failures but haven't had time.
  13. Just for some context, Westburg has a .628 OPS over his last 91 PAs so he's actually not very hot. I understand your frustration and I don't think this team should be starting Nevin or Odor any longer. Neither are effective major league players. Stowers will probably get recalled when Mancini or Santander are moved. This is a team that should be trying to win every game and right now, they have a hole at 2B and no real backup 3B for Urias. If Westburg was hitting better I'd say he makes sense because he can play both, but he's still a better option than Nevin,
  14. Yeah, he's going to keep moving back to his preseason spot. Perhaps his slow start was because he wasn't able to have a full offseason of working out and came into the season weak. Seems like he's straightened that out. Hopefully he can keep it up and it's not some Haskin beginning of the season mirage hot streak.
  15. BTW, I think it would be great if Buck Showalter was able to make it. He could have Ubaldo and Britton ready to throw at the first ball, then give the ball to Ubaldo leaving Britton just standing there.
  16. Davis doesn't want to get boo'd, probably a good idea. He should just slowly creep away from anything orioles after the way he took money and roster spot for years when he no longer could play. But, that's a conversation for another day.
  17. Nah, I understand why he's going to be there. He deserves to be an Orioles HoFer for what he did before leaving for he Yankees. But this is funny!
  18. I agree. Starting Vavra against a good lefty is probably not fair. Last night should have been his debut, but what's done is done. But knowing who was probably starting, why didn't they bring up Martin instead of Vavra? He could have started at 2B today. This entire roster move is a headscratcher to me.
  19. I appreciate the note and can see your point. I was more busting balls with that term more than anything. I respect @wildcard even when I disagree with him because I know he's a great fan of the Orioles and supporter of the site. So if he or others feel I was being disrespectful then I apologize. As for Odor, I really don't disagree all that much though the stats tells us otherwise when he plays. the team is 39-47 when he plays and 10-2 when he doesn't. Perhaps that's coincidence, but the fact that he's either replacement level player or below replacement level player by every metric leads me to believe the team is better without him. Whether Vavra is the answer is probably the bigger question. I've seen him play 2B and came away feeling that he's going to make the every day play, but his arm and hands will limit his effectiveness overall. Joey Ortiz is a fantastic 2B by the way, probably the best in the system when he plays there. As for Hyde, I really don't know how much he has control over his lineup or who plays, but he made some comments about Vavra that made me think he was not going to play much and I don't think that's good for a guy who is a legitimate major league prospect. At the end of the day, the the fact that Vavra made 19 starts in the outfield and 22 starts at 2B, probably says that they've evaluated him at second base and feel he's not good enough to play there everyday. Now, I really may not disagree, but when you are running out a replacement level player, why not try the prospect out if you bring him up rather than let him ride the pine. Besides, maybe Odor's veteranosity is more powerful on the bench since the team is 10-2 without him?
  20. Not sure honestly. I'd have to go watch them a bit, but just reading up a bit, they kinda sound like Zach Peek, maybe Drew Rom types.
