And that's why career and single season leader boards are always more points of discussion than awards. There are potential asterisks all over the place, and a wide range of opinions on how to treat them. Adding the Negro League stats doesn't seem any different to me. Plus its a way of acknowledging in a simple but profound way the great skill of those players (as well is the immense wrong that produced the giant asterisk). Much more so than sticking the stats in a museum.

I fear we are perennially going to want just a little bit more from Grayson—and then it will all click for a few years in his 30’s for some other team.

I think it’s white people problems to worry about the inconsistent quality of the Negro Leagues. The black ball players lived with a far more consistent worse. Seems a minor reconciliation to combine the stats.

Apparently it took a couple years for all the stat heads involved to reconcile the ledgers. But now Josh Gibson officially has the career batting average title.

Good starting pitchers are reliable until they break. Plus they are expensive. So you better hope to have a Rodrigo Lopez or two up your sleeve. Relief pitchers are like goalies. Just pray that whatever motley scrap heap you have compiled gets fire in Autumn.

I’m old school—particularly when it comes to technology. How has the key fob improved my life?? But, I am glad that the style of play changes. The world rolls on. The dudes playing change. The people assembling the teams change. It’s interesting, exciting, new.

Bullpens are as fixed as the weather, so I guess it’s better that ours is wobbly now. There is hope it will be less so later.
