  1. The problem was created by ME when he signed "he who must not be named". IMHO Hyde is a little like Buck in the veteranosity (Odor) department; he dislikes some players skill sets and it impacts playing time. Buck (Kim, Cortez) and Hyde (Stowers, Vavra), at least last year. Urias is lucky to hold up for 400 ABs so he should play 1/3 at 3B and 1/3 at 2B. Mateo wore out last year at 500 ABs so unless he shows he is reborn at the plate he should be limited to about 450 ABs all at SS. The rest of 3B (400 ABs) or SS (150 ABs) should go to Gunnar. If he fails to overcome his weakness vs lefties, more ABs to Urias or Vavra at 3B. There is no freaking way that Gunnar at DH is good for his development and now way Santander in RF is good for the team when Stowers sits. I believe ME and Sig have plans and programs for each player and Sig's computer sets the roster. They likely have probabilities of success for each player for each game and matchup. Guys like Stowers and Vavra don't have enough of a record for Sig's bot to evaluate on stats alone. Enter the vetereanosity component and Stowers sits and then goes down. Wait until one of the AAAA LH 1B-DH reclamation projects takes his spot. Was Stowers usage a ME vs Hyde scenario like DD vs Buck for Teagarten??? TBD
  2. Bags The following clear bag policy will be in effect for the 2023 baseball season at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. One (1) approved bag is allowed per person. Clear plastic bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12". 1-gallon plastic freezer bag Fanny pack or clutch purse no larger than 5” x 7” Medically necessary items including a diaper bag
  3. Perhaps but defensively, over this season, Gunnar IMO won't be much of a drop off vs Urias. Then you get to weigh Stowers vs Santander in RF, probably a wash defensively. So Santander at DH becomes a judgement of Stowers vs Urias offensive production. With his damage to contact ratio, Stowers wins. To me , Urias is first man voted off the island owing to his high present value and our IF pipeline, not for any shortcoming on his part.
  4. Yup, I knew that, but did he DH on opening day? I thought that was what Pickles was referring to. Couldn't tell if he was agreeing with your post or not.
  5. Buck wanted FB, low and away, to start everyone off. Needless to say Nestor wasn't Buck's cup-of-tea.
  6. Eddie played all but 2 games in his rookie year. I don't remember if he played OD or not. As I am several sheets to the wind at the mo, I'm not sure if you are agreeing with C_O_C or not but too lazy to look it up. Apologies if I mis-interperted your comment.
  7. I am less subtle, ergo the Green Highlight, lol. I suppose it's better than blunt force, lol.
  8. I think you really meant to use GREEN font
  9. They walked Judge, top of the 9th, 2 outs, bringing the winning run to the plate. Several here advocated not pitching to Judge, not letting him beat you. He was 0 for 4 to that point in the game. Practically everyone would likely agree that was a good strategy NOW as it worked. I wonder, if we had a poll before the 9th inning started how the majority WOULD have voted????? Anyone want to fess up??? Me, personally, tuned in on CBS gameday as Judge was at ball 3 so for sure I would say yes at that point. If there had been a poll prior, I would have said no FWIW.
  10. While I agree with Tony@OH that Sig's computer spits out who should play in a given game matchup, I suspect that Hyder decides, or at least has the latitude to decide, who plays where. Sig's computer isn't going to spit out Stowers, Vavra, or even Henderson over anyone with a MLB track record. IMHO
  11. They should be DHing Santander at least 50% of the time and rotating Henderson, Urias, Adley. Frazier, Stowers.
  12. I read your post as referring to last year after Lopez left.
  13. I didn't explain well then, Santander isn't good in the field so he should be at DH more than RF. That's how we evaluate Stowers before the next prospect is ready while keeping Santanders bat in the lineup.
  14. Woulda, shoulda, coulda! Again, not advocating, but if Mateo can rework his approach then Mounty "can" rework his throwing mechanics if he wants it badly enough.
  15. Agree with this opinion but he has a history of high damage to contact, maybe Westburg as well. I just want him to get a legit shot before he is overtaken by Cowser, Kjerstad, with Beavers, Fabian, maybe Mayo after that. Maybe only 1-2 of the 6 will be a productive MLB regular at COF, maybe 1 will be a 1B/DH. Two out of 6 would be like finding gold in your backyard. Maybe ME-Sig already have already used the sorting hat to make those decisions. I have my doubts, given the lack of direction with Vavra, Westberg, Ortiz, Norby in the signing of "he who must not be named". Then there is Gunna and the 2 GGs but I digress. I want their performance to dictate the sorting, that's all.
  16. Oh, I am not advocating that Mounty can do it, just that his arm is OK supposedly but his mechanics are terrible.
  17. If Sig's computer deemed it necessary to engender the change then I think they stick with the process until the end. Let us hope it will be fruitful and not bitter.
  18. Wasn't it his form throwing from the left side rather than his arm strength? I seem to remember his arm strength being average but his mechanics sucked. I assume the throws from 1B to 2B for a DP "might" require him to learn a different throwing motion. If so, it will take awhile before we know the end result, erasing muscle memory ain't easy.
  19. I don't think any of us have ever advocated that, we just want Stowers to get a legit shot before the next wave comes. It could easily be a 50-50 for both of them in RF. Many have already concluded that Stowers doesn't provide adequate defense but seem to forget that most of our Mil OFs have an adjustment period getting used to 2nd deck stadiums and the various configurations around the ML parks. Stowers wasn't regarded as a poor COF in the minors. Santander's bat is his primary benefit and he has been injury prone and his speed is slipping. DH 50% of the time increases the chance to keep him healthy and his bat in the lineup.
