  1. Agree with all this. Also, with better attendance the Revenue will increase. The unknown variable is how much profit JA will want. The last 2 years the profits were $83M and $67M, is he saving that for inheritance taxes??? Per the Forbes data, the breakeven point was about $130M for Payroll plus Expenses (Salaries around $100M plus benefits and other costs that aren't defined). Salaries are about $65M now including Active, Injured, and Retained (Davis $5.6M) but not Deferred($15.1M) so depending on how you count you have $20M to $35M in Salaries to play with.
  2. So, for reference, Westburg and Cowser are 26th and 28th out of 133 players with scores of 7.0 and 6.8 where 7 is excellent and 6 is great and 5.5 is very good per Fangraphs. Kjerstad is 26th out of 80 players rated 6.2, while Prieto and Mayo are 51st and 54th with ratings of 4.3 and 3.8. While this measure is more about baserunning than pure speed, it supports the eye test that Kjerstad moves pretty well. As for Stowers he rates a 3.3 while Ortiz is 6.0, Norby at 4.1 and Vavra at 4.4. Maybe that explains Hyde's decisions to give Vavra RF ABs over Stowers .
  3. Especially when Mayo and Prieto are 51 and 54 with numbers around 4 so I am good with a 6.2 for the big man.
  4. I found this explanation:Speed score (Spd) is a statistic developed by Bill James that rates a player on their speed and baserunning ability. Different locations include slightly different components, but the FanGraphs version consists of, “…Stolen Base Percentage, Frequency of Stolen Base Attempts, Percentage of Triples, and Runs Scored Percentage.” They say about 7 is excellent and 6 is great, 5.5 above average. So if HK is 6.2 he is doing well. I assume he probably hit a triple and stole a base in the prior reading and you meant 9.3. I'm just trying to get a read on HK's speed as a potential COF but all I can find is Tony's prospect rating from 2021.
  5. I wasn't clear, sorry. You said he was 5th at 93 but the highest score is 8.5, so off by over an order of magnitude. Is there a conversion to percentiles, did you mean 9.3, or ??? It doesn't seem like someone could go from 9.3 to 6.2 without breaking a leg lol.
  6. I get the Omar whistle but the light show should be AFTER he closes the game IMHO. But then I'm old (get off my lawn).
  7. PS…have no idea what you are talking about. Lol The text comes in as black on black background. The only way to see it is to highlight it by dragging your cursor over it so it changes to white text on blue highlights.
  8. I just looked at the link above and HK was 26th at 6.2 but Donta Williams was 5th at 8.2. Am I looking at the wrong thing re: Heston's speed??? For wRC+ Davis is still first at 209, Prieto at 184, HK at 183 and Mayo 5th at 154. Bowie has 3 of the top 5.
  9. Can they, yes. Will they, no, they finish 3rd ahead of BOS and NYY.
  10. IS there someplace to see sprint #s in the minors (Cowser, Kjerstead) and maybe Stowers?
  11. Pretty sure I saw 2-3 weeks estimate so more than the 10-day
  12. Westburg is the better fit at 2B and 3B while Ortiz is the better fit at 2B and SS. I'm not sure how Ortiz would be at 3B. If Mateo craters then Ortiz can replace him.
  13. DET is 15-5 when not playing the East, they play in a weak division, they aren't trading ERod unless they fall apart. ERod has 3/$49M remaining and is certain to opt out. Even if DET stumbles, you only get a rental. You basically have to buy the value of the QO and 3 months of service.
  14. I agree with this but it's a balancing act for ME. Cowser, Mullins, Hays and maybe even Stowers are better defensive OFs than Santander now. Santander was healthier last year probably because of DH time. However he is less productive (SLG) at DH so you sacrifice some defense for offense. Santander isn't the future COF and he likely isn't the 30 HR guy going forward so you have to transition eventually. I would blame Hyde for Odor, Aguilar getting ABs last year over Vavra, Stowers because - veteranosity. Same with Frazier, McCann this year. ME needs to move a body or 2 (Hays, Santander, Urias, Mateo) for the transition to occur.
  15. The Tigers are 17-19, but are 2-14 against the East. They are 15-5 against everyone else. Also, they don't play the East again until just before ASB.
  16. I think wait and see mode until ASB and whether he decides to go for it will depend on performance between now and then. Cowser, Westburg, Ortiz could all be kicking the door down to end the Stowers/Vavra experiments but there isn't room for all 3 to play regularly unless someone or two get moved off the MLB roster.
  17. And the reason he didn't get the run he should have had after he went down and got hot was Hyde. Playing him sporadically, playing him out of position in LF. It is hard enough for OF to adjust to stadiums with second decks without regular PT and ABs. Hyde is handling Stowers like he expects him to fail so use him whenever. Look, IDK if Stowers is a MLB regular, but I believe Hyde's usage is hurting his development and the org's evaluation of Stowers value as a prospect and trade chip.
  18. Bautista threw 30 pitches last Thursday, that's why Hyde decided before Saturday's game that he wasn't available. Top of the 8th, up by a run, you don't go with the closing duo because Hyde had already decided, game situation be damned. At the time most defended Hyde as managing for the season but then someone commented, before Thursday Bautista hadn't been used in 4 days. So 30 pitches in 6 days and he can't be used, that's Hyde logic. FWIW
  19. Hyde manages day-to-day by his gut. His gut has no use for Stowers and recent performance by Stowers will just confirm his opinion. Hyde has no trust in Akin so he uses him in shorter, 1 inning stints irregularly which decreases Akin's effectiveness and value as a long man. Hyde has decided Mullins needs to be platooned against lefties so that is what he will do. McKenna's performance will support Hyde's opinion. His decision making hurts payer development unless he likes you, like Vavra, who will soon have 9 gloves in his bag but has shown no ability to transition his OBP to MLB.
  20. I don't think we let him get to FA and a QO, ME will trade him to replenish the farm before that last year.
  21. “This issue is assuring for the city of Baltimore, the state of Maryland and the Orioles that there is some permanent compensation from the league to the Orioles,” he added. “Because we’re the only team that’s had that happen to us.” Just what is JA talking about here? The League isn't going to give either the Orioles or Baltimore anything. This is about rights fees to both teams set at a level to allow some profit for MASN. Nats want less profit since they are limited to 33% of that and higher rights fees, that are equal for both teams. The only money from the League was the money to setup MASN ($75M??).
  22. Did the league adjust the pitch mix on Gunnar after his hot start?
  23. I was reacting to:" The man is terrible and cheap. Let’s not make excuses for his horribleness." I'd never do that. If I misinterpreted your meaning, please accept my apology.
