  1. I don't find it exciting, I just don't care. That's not to say I hope she doesn't get it. I just don't really care if she does or not.
  2. I know you're not being 100% serious here, but c'mon. Altuve is one of the best players of this generation. Before the Astros cheating scandal and after it. And it's been shown that he didn't really "benefit" from the banging on the trashcans, the research has shown that of all the trashcan bangs his were like 4%. It's not like he was the biggest beneficiary of it. His OPS after 2017 and the cheating is .862. Before (not including 2017) it was .790. I get that everyone is tired of the Astros but it's lazy to think that they're still cheating somehow. Altuve and Bregman are the only two players left from that team. Completely different cast of characters, different manager, different front office. Are they cheating? I mean, maybe. Wouldn't be surprised if they were, but then again I would be a little disappointed if the Orioles weren't cheating, too.
  3. I think the whole “knowing how to win in the playoffs” narrative is vastly overrated and silly. You win by scoring more than the other team.
  4. I don't think you have a good grasp of how baseball actually works. Of the four major sports, it's the only game where the "stars" don't get to exert their will over the course of the game. Each player gets 4-5 at bats. An ace pitcher doesn't get to start every game. There's no quarterback like Mahomes that can throw for 4 touchdowns. There's no guard like Michael Jordan that can keep being fed the ball. There's no hockey goalie like...whatever, hockey is terrible. There's no Wayne Gretzky that can score goals almost at will. No, Jorge Mateo has the same amount of at bats as Gunnar Henderson. You're arguing that the most talented teams are always in the playoffs which is an obvious argument that no one would refute. But just because the Orioles don't have a lot of household names right now isn't the reason they lost. So, no, the Orioles don't have a Jose Altuve who always kills it in the postseason. They also don't have future Hall of Famers like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman who went 2-21 in their division series this year. I would argue that outside of Ohtani, Mookie Betts is probably the most "it" factor guy in the game and yet he went out with a whimper this year, as did the ret of his team. You're making an argument that fits for basketball and football and hockey but doesn't fit for baseball. It doesn't work this way. You can't really describe what the "it" factor is because you've failed to do so in all of your posts. You just keep coming back to "the Orioles didn't have the "it" factor" which is a bit silly and nonsensical, the type of stuff that afternoon drive sports talk show hosts say. The Orioles just don't have name recognition at a national level. Not yet, at least.
  5. Thing is, you just knew Altuve was gonna do damage there. Everyone knew it. That guy is nails.
  6. Man, clock might have struck midnight on the Rangers just now.
  7. I think Kimbrel is going to be expensive because you're paying for a name and what he's done. And I like Kimbrel, I'm just thinking the wheels are going to fall off sooner or later and I don't want him to be on our team when they do. A guy like Stephenson is 30. Still not too old.
  8. Looks like they're trotting out some new statistical categories over the past couple days which is nice to see. My Only One Team for the Nats today just exploded any kind of rarity score but he was the only guy I could think of. 9/9 179 The Only One Team category is interesting. I mean, Moonlight Graham is technically a fit there for when the Giants get that grid. Anyone that came up for a cup of coffee and never came back is a fit...looking at all the Nats/Expos players that came up for a handful of games, there's a ton to pick from but no names that anyone could ever guess.
  9. Stephenson looks like he could be a good guy to get. Something has clicked for him since he went to Pittsburgh, the WHIP has decreased tremendously.
  10. To add to your list: 5) gets righties and lefties out. I think it's fine to have a matchup guy or two in the bullpen but I want relievers that don't care which batter's box a hitter is standing in.
  11. Good luck trying to get a refund from John Angelos. @Sports Guy, did I do it right?
  12. I've got some good grids, some not-so-good grids. Some I can solve in a couple minutes, others it'll take several times coming back to them. Felt like last week all I could get was 7/9. I also think I just have a core group of players, say 100 or so that are my go to. I've used Dave Parker 3 times in the past week or so and if you know the rare teams he played for (Oakland, California, Milwaukee) it'll help with the score. I really do enjoy this game. I've never been one to play a game each day such as a crossword puzzle but this has provided a good challenge and entertainment each morning.
  13. I know we have a stacked system and we’re all infatuated with our guys coming up, but I am completely jealous that the Rangers have a guy like Evan Carter.
  14. Kevin Brown was SO SURE that Gunnar would be a candidate for GG utility. This is Kevin Brown's fault.
  15. Mountcastle has had some surprise moments/plays where he's looked really good at first. I don't think he's GG caliber but whatever...they've made some glaring mistakes before and that's not his fault. I hope he gets it, that would be good for him. I hope Hays and AR get it, too.
  16. Offseason is off to a rip-roaring start!
  17. Well if that's the line that has to be drawn in the sand, I know which group I'd rather hang with.
  18. As someone who was raised Christian and is sprinting towards agnosticism, I really don't care. To SG's point, glad to see they're tight knit. I don't care if they bond over the Bible or trips to Hooters. As far as wondering about the demographics of the players interviewed, that's an eye roll.
  19. Playoffs again and win a postseason series. Kind of ties into the other conversation we've had on here...does the first round bye really help or hurt? We looked so comatose in the ALDS and it's sacreligious to say but I'm not sure if I want them to have that bye again. But I also have a hard time believing that I'll feel that way if we're headed down the stretch in September and battling it out for the division again. So, yeah. Playoffs again and winning a postseason series. That scenario probably means that rookies like Holliday and Mayo have come up and performed well, Gunnar and Adley and G-Rod have had great seasons, etc.
  20. It's great if one or two of these guys can pan out. It's also great that Elias seems to have been nailing the drafts but when it's all said and done bringing the Orioles to the South American market might be the most valuable thing he's been able to do here. For decades the Orioles declined to play in that market and I do believe it cost them dearly over the years. If you look at all the talent that's come through the MLB in that time, you have to wonder which players the Orioles could have had if they'd only been willing to compete for those players. Like, Acuna signed for 100k in 2014. What if the Orioles were there and offered 200k?
