  1. Well it usually involves raising money via pledges, not just getting cold water dumped on your head and showing a video afterwards, so advance notice is necessary. Certainly can be announced in a different manner of course.
  2. Yesterday our old friend Britt highlighted the Nats’ Mike Rizzo challenging all MLB GM’s to do an ice water challenge for ALS charity. Rizzo lost his sister to ALS. I know it’s the Nats but Rizzo mentions that MLB GM’s are a close knit community. It would seem Elias has to get on board with this at some point to avoid the O’s seeming petty so might as well get on board right out of the gate. https://twitter.com/Britt_Ghiroli/status/1661798212800327680?s=20
  3. Yennier seemed upset after earning the save tonight. Watching the MLB network highlight clip I’m thinking maybe he was upset with McKenna not catching that double as he seemed to be staring out that way after Adley gave him the hug.
  4. Kix will apparently be performing their farewell concert at Merriweather in September, they are retiring. When you speak of “elderly folk” you must be referring to the octogenarians in the stands as Kix’ demographic is 55+. Kinda like folks who think putting the O’s on 98rock will attract fans from a younger listening audience. Also not cutting edge, Seven Nation Army was released 20 years ago by the White Stripes.
  5. Tony be thinkin’ “Gotta take the Silverado over to Grauls Friday afternoon to pick up the apple pie and hot dogs for the cookout!”
  6. Many years ago I thought updating with “I Love Rock & Roll” by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts would have been great due to her link to Montgomery County where she spent her teen years. That song is four decades old at this point so its time has passed. My most recent choice would be the 1961 Harry Belafonte version of Jump In the Line (Shake Senora). Classic & multigenerational, (used in Beetlejuice, BASEketball, Little Mermaid, sampled by Pitbull and was a TikTok sensation in 2019 according to wiki). The opening with the strings & horns would get the crowd up and hopefully we would see line dancing all around the stadium! Too bad Mr. Belafonte passed last month so he won’t see it at our World Series. Listen:
  7. So he’s 23 1/2 now. Will he be in MLB by age 26? (2026 season).
  8. It’s a City Connect jersey. They are trying to connect with the city, not the region, not the nation, connect with the City of Baltimore! Sorry Severna Park, Columbia, Mt. Airy, Monkton and Bel Air if you feel left out. Take some time and watch the video. Watch it again and even again. Appreciate the fact that the team that took years to put Baltimore back on their grey jerseys has made a choice to be “all in” for its city here in 2023. “Can’t Clip These Wings” is outstanding terminology. Signifies toughness and ability to overcome adversity. Again referring to the video, the boy stopping on his bike to look up at the mural on the brick building. He looks up from his bike beside a vacant overgrown lot. This was not created by the visitors bureau. It’s not New York where the kid would probably get off the subway and climb the stairs to Times Square while Sinatra sings “If you can make it here….” Blah blah blah! This is Baltimore and as Randy Newman sang about 40 years ago “man it’s hard, just to live”. “Can’t Clip These Wings” is also unifying by not hinting of anything political, no hint of BLM or blue stripe on a flag, no celebration of diversity, no wrapping ourselves in ANY flag. It’s also genius because of the Ravens. Attracting the attention of their fan base should be a priority. I haven’t commented on the actual jersey because yes, last weeks leak was certainly disappointing and might be lingering a bit. @MurphDoggyour photo was helpful. I think I’ve warmed some but I’ve got to put my hands on one before making the investment. Just really excited about the message, it’s been a long time since Oriole Magic and Thank God I’m A Country Boy really resonated as anthems.
  9. OK, guess I was thinking about how the twin bill call up doesn’t count against options. Vespi, Gillaspie or Krehbiel not as exciting as extra man. I would also backdate an IL for Hays which would put him next available for Saturday in Atlanta. Vavra or Stowers up.
  10. Detroit, cold & wet, April, hip, Hyde can feign caution while we sneak a peek at Henderson & Ortiz. Cowser up as the twinbill extra man?
  11. Well coming off a hip thingy he won’t play 16 innings in the field. DH him? Henderson & Ortiz up the middle for 16 innings?
  12. Is it not true that the games’ starting pitcher has a say in the uniform choice? I believe I remember hearing that.
  13. I highly recommend Amici’s if you go over to Little Italy. They have daily to go specials which are very reasonable and of exceptional quality. A few weeks ago on a Thursday night I had a Rigatoni Bolognese entre for $10. Generous portion, if you have a mini fridge in your hotel room you’ll have enough for before and after the game! https://amiccis.com/
  14. So no MLB franchise broadcasting to Outer Banks residents? No Braves if I remember correctly. I guess if you are a Balt/Wash MASN subscriber on vacation you can stream and cast to your rental home TV.
  15. Baseball Gods call down from on high “You will play a 3hr 10min game in Fenway!”
  16. Hyde bunting Mateo so Ced can keep pace with Mateo.
  17. Might be a hat tip for the gold and fielding bible awards. Probably see it at home opener as well.
  18. Are they assuming it’s their right to sign Adley when FA comes?
  19. Stir open, apparentlty the proposed sale has been delayed. Maybe this iconic tag is available?
  20. I would like to see Mateo given some reps in LF. His speed and arm in OPACY LF could be valuable. Also it gives Westburg and Ortiz more SS reps early on. BTW was Buck’s pet project of the practice field w/ exact OPACY dimensions adjusted?
  21. Lots of reporting out today with background. Twin Cities Business published this piece today regarding the overall situation and specifically the Twins since their contract is currently up for renewal. https://tcbmag.com/the-bally-sports-mess-explained/ Bally/Atlantic/Sinclair might not have “overpaid” but they did choose to overleverage.
  22. https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/regional-network-diamond-sports-misses-140m-debt-payment-to-bondholders/ar-AA17wCQO Not sure how news like this affects valuation arguments within the MASN case. At first blush it appears sports networks are not the cash cows one might think. On the other hand Sinclair / Atlantic possibly just got into trouble by overpaying for the networks they bought.
  23. MLB Trade Rumors story speculates the Rangers might seek a proven LF. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/02/rangers-rumors-left-field.html Using https://www.baseballtradevalues.com the following two players from the Texas 40 man are considered a fair return for Hays: LHP Brock Burke 26 yo https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/burkebr01.shtml & LH Hitting 1B/OF Dustin Harris 23 yo https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=harris000dus Burke had a bit of a breakthrough season in the Ranger bullpen last year after mainly a starter in the minors. Harris joined Gunnar on the 2022 futures game roster during his 331 AB AA season of .257/.346/.471/.817. Do either the Orioles or the Rangers think Hays is a starter on a championship contending team? 4th OF or “contributing pieces” don’t get that return.
