  1. Well Dave Dombrowski is gonna do Dave Dombrowski kinda things. He probably feels he got a bargain since he was the GM in Boston 8 years ago who signed David Price to a 7 year $217m contract.
  2. Gibson’s, the veteran, who’s also a FA with a future contract on his mind really tended to be more complementary of the organization as a whole and their vision. Didn’t really give the standard “we all love Holty” kind of quote one normally gets. His praise was there, but measured.
  3. The O’s get the ASG the season following an in his prime Gunnar leaves as a FA and returns to win the HR Derby with a moon shot off the warehouse.
  4. A bit surprised that there weren’t some down ballot votes for Bautista. Very valuable contributor to a 101 win season.
  5. On the other hand we certainly should also have no concern of Hyde being dismissed with a year (or more) left on his contract for a more experienced manager seeking a record breaking contract! It was kind of interesting that Counsell got his contract from the Cubs but the next two MLB manager hires (Guardians and Mets) went to two novices. The pay differences between Franconia and Showalter vs. Vogt and Mendoza are probably substantial. Counsell moved the top bar higher but the average annual mgr salary bar probably stayed status quo. Even Ron Washington’s hire, while he has experience and is a baseball lifer, he’s been out of the skippers chair for nine years, I don’t think he had the upper hand at the negotiating table.
  6. https://stathead.com/tiny/lr0AW Thats the career comparison of Jack Flaherty to Dylan Cease, both 27 y.o. A bit scary. Kind of reminds me of the adage we would be throwing good $$ (prospects) after bad to acquire him. I’d rather emulate the Minnesota-Miami trade of last winter where another current 27 y.o., Pablo Lopez was acquired for batting champ Luis Arraez. But then again look at this comparison. https://stathead.com/tiny/4ytDy Scary?? I’m not sure the Orioles should be depending upon the “let’s see if we can fix this guy” strategy to improve playoff performance. Time to go after a pitcher on an ascending trajectory. Or is trading a “really big” name of ours too scary?
  7. I bet he would do a better job there than Buck did in Queens. (And yes I realize Buck had a good 1st year)
  8. What we need are some mercenary missionaries, lock Trevor Bauer in a room with these guys and let’s listen through the closed door to the exorcism and subsequent contract signing. Hallelujah!
  9. I admit I’m in the Felix camp if he’s deemed able to safely throw, however Hyde coming out, then handing the ball to Hess (to finish that 2019 6 1/3 inning no-hitter) would be great theatre as well. Maybe at the stand up to cancer game during WS. He could throw to Trey.
  10. Hat tip for the info. Yes, and if you are looking for a single, they’ve released spaces in the last rows of some great field box locations for $250 (plus fees). These are normally wheelchair accessible locations. Also selling standing room only for $100 (plus fees).
  11. Well the A’s did obtain their recently chosen MILB player of the year (Darell Hernaiz) from the Orioles so we share! https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/aviators-infielder-darell-hernaiz-named-milb-player-of-the-year/ar-AA1h7EUI
  12. Of course if we clinch the O’s will have NO baseball for 5 days next week, but as long as we have a chance to bypass Atlanta for best record we get WS home field so all this weeks games may be important.
  13. I recommend https://www.amiccis.com/ Amiccis in Little Italy. Great food, friendly & unpretentious, hard to believe they’ve been around for 30 years now. I moved away 7 years ago but when I visit I make the attempt to get back to Amiccis.
  14. No! No! No! No fentanyl to easy the physical pain in order to reduce any psychological pain! (Not inferring Gonsolin used any pain medication, although it seems impossible considering previous posts)
  15. No, sorry I was referring to his MASN reactions (NSFW) whenever he thought he lost out on a HR to LF.
  16. Trying to steer this back to OPACY, I wonder if the MLB rule changes have impacted concession staff? Seriously, as I mentioned a ways back I took a part time position with Aramark at the ballpark about 30 years ago and was required to get there by 5:00pm to set up for what was then a 7:35pm game time. I know from comments here on the board that gates don’t open as early as they used to prior to game time and games seem to end on average one half hour earlier than they used to. If your hourly wage went up $2.00 between 2022 and 2023 put you only work 5 hours instead of 6……. guess what no more $$$ in your pocket.
  17. THIS! The “gig economy” where you can be your own boss and make money as you see fit on the hours that fit you and your family’s schedule is the seismic change. Enhanced unemployment benefits were ended in September 2021! Anyone still moaning about that as an issue is sorely out of touch with reality.
  18. I haven’t been at OPACY this year, in fact my first Oriole game since pre-COVID will be next Tuesday in Anaheim. 30 years ago I grabbed a part time job with Aramark at OPACY when they were the concessionaire. Only lasted about a month and a half, mostly because it was difficult for me to consistently get from my daytime career job to OPACY for weekday night game duty. It was hard fast paced work for little pay. I do remember however that back in those days a good number of the stands, maybe 10 percent of them, were operated by nonprofits/charitable organizations. School PTA’s, Volunteer Fire Auxiliaries, Church groups, United Way groups would operate a stand for the night and in turn for their free labor received $$ from the Orioles/Aramark. Not sure if it was a flat fee or based on sales but it seemed to be a win/win. Does this still go on?
  19. Now this is not meant to derail the thread with an argument over Hyde’s roster power but in the course of a couple days recently: 1.) Hyde referred to Hicks as “Hicksey” in an injury update. Hyde likes you when he adds the “ey” to your name. 2.) Hyde called on Cowser to enter a game and I guess Cowser had some hesitation to which Hyde had to yell “get out there!” and turned to Fredi Gonzales and said “god damn!” Totally unscientific but underlying clues.
  20. Kevin Browns’ X page (twitter) has been quiet sinc July 26. Last tweets were acknowledging Adam Jones’ scheduled visit to the splash zone and noting that the Tampa series was the most exciting of his five years here.
  21. Kenny will be on it like…….. Buster on Mussina’s number!
  22. Maybe THIS! I do recall KB saying on one broadcast that upon arriving home after the splash zone game his wife asked him if he apologized to the person who drove him home because “you need a shower!”
  23. Today’s an off day. Why does it seem like threads started on off days are April Fools Jokes?
