  1. Maybe it’s more about handling human beings. Vavra was called up from Tides, who are in Memphis, late Monday. His wife, who is 30 + weeks pregnant, was given permission to travel to Baltimore. Vavra flies in from Memphis, arrived Tuesday afternoon. I would imagine wife is coming up from Norfolk ostensibly to witness the MLB debut. There is a lot of “real life” going on there, better to let him sit Tuesday night. The other side of the equation is Odor, the veteran, he sees Vavra, left handed hitting 2B in the clubhouse and practicing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hyde or Gonzalez comes to Odor and says hey we want to work the rookie in would you rather play the night game (Wed) or the day game (Thurs). That really could be all of it and maybe it’s those things make Hyde a manager who has the respect and support of his squad.
  2. Do you possibly think the Friday 1 inning, back on mound Tuesday was a test for MLB bullpen? Certainly a number of folks here have suggested we bring him up for bullpen use during “the stretch run”. Maybe better to mess with his routine in Norfolk than in Baltimore. Just spitball’n here.
  3. Remember the season Gleyber owned us? Gary Thorne was beside himself pleading “why are we even pitching to him?”
  4. There is some potential for this to be a redux of the COVID shortened season with the Red Sox seemingly in freefall. Certainly could finish in front of them.
  5. This is what I’m thinking. 13 games in a row, an off day, then 17 in a row before an off day on Aug 22. Strategic placement of Voth and Harvey during those stretches really keeps the toll off the top 4 going into those meaningful Sept. games.
  6. Bring back CITO because ……. you know! Cito is about 7 months older than LaRussa BTW.
  7. How much does playing three games at the Trop play into this. Certainly watching and listening to broadcasts over the years it is apparent that the roof provides tough reads. Would the O’s rather not throw rookies out there for, dare I say it, “ a pivotal series”.
  8. Interrupting the trade talk, looking ahead at the MLB schedule, the NYY’s only get a three day all star break (we get four). NYY’s open by playing a 1pm/6pm doubleheader in Houston on Thursday before coming to Baltimore Friday. Houston manager Dusty Baker will be managing 6 NYY players in the ASG. Interesting scenarios with Cole and Cortes both in ASG.
  9. After 9 straight wins is it time to say we are only 3.5 games out of the first wild card spot? Let’s GO!
  10. The decision on Mancini is easily deferred until after the 10 games with TB & NYY. So no need for any pronouncements now. Britt is a good columnist, (I guess that is what she would be considered now as opposed to beat writer), Britt does tend to get a little attached to her favorites, she cried a river over Buck.
  11. Media milestones as well! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/should-the-orioles-rethink-their-trade-deadline-approach.html Good times!
  12. Crazy thought, the Mets are contenders and have the 11th pick and the 14th pick. They wouldn’t would they?
  13. Nestor Cortes made the All Star Team.
  14. Radio broadcast confirming Tuesday & Sunday Lyles appearances.
  15. Based on this boards’ evaluation of Hays vs Santander I think you need to be offering Hays to the Padres. Now whether FO professionals value Hays above Santander I can’t say.
  16. Padres leading outfielder has been Jurickson Profar who just went on 7 day concussion IL. Nomar Mazara has played in 30 games this year with respectable numbers but his track record with Texas, CWS and Detroit in the past, not stellar. Yesterday’s OF batted 7-8-9, with OPS’s of .000, .624, .629. Need to be talking to them. They do have a trade-able competitive balance draft pick at #39.
  17. There have been a couple of occasions earlier this season, after hitting long fly ball outs to left (maybe even after a double), where he was cussin’ about playing here!
  18. Gotta consider Brandon Hyde for the coaching staff at this point.
  19. Does Bowden realize the Twins just beat Lopez two times in a row last weekend? I get the whole body of work thing but if Twins are looking, he wouldn’t be 1st on their list.
  20. Last year Seattle and Houston made a trade that helped both teams achieve short and long term goals. From BBRef: July 27, 2021: Abraham Toro traded by the Houston Astros with Joe Smith to the Seattle Mariners for Kendall Graveman and Rafael Montero. Seattle was a bit of a surprise contender and the fan base was infuriated in Dipoto trading the popular Graveman to Houston for Toro’s potential, but on July 28 the Mariners were 55-48 then went on to finish 90-72. So 45-24, a sizzling .652 after the trade! Went into the last weekend with a shot at the wildcard but missed out. During that stretch, just for spice, Toro hit a grand slam off Graveman. A few warnings to O’s fans, Seattle was 7 games ABOVE .500 when the trade was made. We are excited with our 5 game winning streak that has put us 4 games UNDER. In relation to the attendance thread Seattle really didn’t see an attendance jump until the last three games of their home schedule even though their last six were at home.
  21. Maybe a little incentive with Trout visiting Cedric’s yard!
  22. It’s an ex O’s double up today as the Cubs’ Mychal Givens gets the win over the Brewers’ Josh Hader.
  23. In the final stretch Cedric is surging. Is there enough time for him to make up for the slow start out of the gate? Seems lately he has a defensive or offensive (or both) highlight on MLB network daily.
  24. I think we have a SQUAD! They really seem to have each other’s backs and are actually able to perform that way!
