It surprised me a little, because Nick's known for his outstanding durability, though I'm certainly not going to knock him for his decision.  It makes for some interesting possibilities for the Braves OF situation.  Do they use both of their 21 year old OF prospects - Pache and Waters.  With Freeman also potentially out and with the NL using the DH for the first time, the Braves might be looking for a 1st baseman/corner OFer type that can hit.

They have Alonso and Austin Riley as possibilities for first base.

  2. Yes, Maryland and DC have been going down, but VA has gone up these past two weeks compared to the previous two weeks.  Though Fairfax seems to be doing relatively well. After going down a bit, NY’s deaths increased these past two weeks as well.

There were almost as many cases reported in FL this weekend as total cases in Japan, South Korea, and Australia combined since this thing started.

  3. In one of the baseball threads there was discussion of the declining death rate (in the context of Florida)

Florida’s mortality rate has declined from a high of 4.4% on 6/4 to under 2% today.  However the number of cases has doubled i. The past two weeks.  On 6/22, there were 97,291 cases.  Today, there are 200,111.  Death rate has gone down, but deaths have gone up.  570 deaths over the past two weeks compared to 461 the previous two weeks.

In fact, 22 of the 50 states had more deaths from June 22-July 6 than June 8-June 22.

Good for 82nd highest in the league. Big to you and me, not all that big to baseball.

That’s right at the cusp of the 90th percentile.  Half of the guys who opted out are there.  (Last I saw was 6, could be more now)

What fence mending would he need to do?  He hasn’t even played with the Dodgers yet. I don’t think any other players would be upset with a player skipping this season.  He is giving up $12 million dollars.

He also gave 200k+ to pay the Dodgers minor leaguers.

I haven't been to the 'Yards' since they first opened.  It was against the Brewers.  O's lost.  Go figure.  But, I know one thing for sure.  The first player, or team, that kneels during the anthem, or wears some sort of emblem concerning a particular group, will be the last time I watch baseball.  I was an NFL fan for 40+ years.  Haven't watched a game in 4 years.  Sports is meant to be an escape from life's problems.  I will not listen to a bunch of multimillionaire players whine like Lebron James.

You know an MLB player has knelt.  And you’re still watching?

Funny, I get 8 down votes and Legend of Joey gets two up votes. My view on this is based entirely in science. The family of coronaviruses. including the common cold, have been around for a very long time. If you spend the time to do your own research you may or may not come to the same conclusion. Sort of amazing all these stat guys can't see the info in front of them. Objective thought requires that you think..........Objectively.

If you can’t tell why your post got downvoted and Legend of Joey’s got upvoted, you may want to do a little more research.

I'm fine with market pressures forcing a change.

Given the play on the field under current ownership they should just go with the Generals.

    Too soon.  Too soon.

If they don’t do a Prince-like symbol, they should look into:

D.C Lakers -  No lakes in L.A.  No lakes in D.C.

D.C. Jazz -  Makes more sense than Utah being the hometown of Duke Ellington

D.C. Patriots - why should New England have a monopoly on loving America

Washington SuperSonics - eat it, Seattle.

Seems like the guys sitting out have all mad tons of money already.  But anyone can sit out this year or any other year if they want to.  Not a big deal to me,

Four guys, so far.  Three of them, yeah.  Joe Ross, not so much.   So he hasn’t really made much relatively.  He’s made around $2M in his career.  Made a $1M last year.  Was supposed to make $1.5M this year, but with the proration, he’s only giving up $556k.

I seriously doubt if Aaron led the NL in HR in the 1970's, since he didn't play the whole decade.  I would guess someone like Stargell, Bench, or Schmidt would be the guy.  I'm guessing all 3 of those guys had more HR in the 1970's than Aaron.

You’re correct.  It was Stargell.  I played a game on Sporcle last week and I thought that Aaron had done it. Not true.  He led the NL in the 60s.  Going back and looking at it, Aaron had the most homers over the course of the 60 and 70s, but not the 70s alone.

    20s Ruth

    30s Foxx

    40s Williams

    50s Snider

    60s Killebrew

    70s Stargell

    80s Schmidt

    90s McGwire

    00s Rodriguez

    10s Cruz

  11. If you are looking for live sports, The Basketball Tournament starts this weekend and the games are on ESPN.  I was checking out the website (which is only partially updated as far as I can tell).  From scanning the rosters, it looks like Diamond Stone, Dez Wells, and Damonte Dodd are playing.
