    Tides scores, first seven games:

    12-8
    12-6
    5-17
    10-6
    26-11
    9-8
    11-10

    some laughers, some nail-biters!

They’ve gotta be testing a juiced ball with Norfolk. Norfolk pitching looks terrible, but the offense is hiding them.

Lefties kill this guy we are facing today. I assume we will not take that into account and start some whacky lineup, forcing in ice cold right handed bats.

Almost guaranteed Hays and his .100 BA start over Cowser.

I'm taking these early Norfolk numbers with a bit of a grain of salt because clearly something isn't normal there, but.... talk about beating the door down.

Charlotte is the White Sox AAA affiliate, and they were begging us for pitching, so that kinda checks out. But Durham is the Tampa affiliate, and they put up 29 runs in 3 games. Or maybe MLB is secretly testing the next juiced ball for Norfolk games.

I thought that the draft pick compensation combined with the fact that we lose the extra year of control because of ROY voting makes service time manipulation a silly reason, and I think this article reinforces that.

To me the only explanation that makes sense is that they legitimately think that he needs a few more at bats in the minors, and they're willing to re-evaluate him before 4/10, which is the cutoff to add him and still have him accrue the necessary 172 days of service time to qualify for PPI.  At this point I think you have to call him up on 4/10 if he's still OPSing north of 1.000 at that point, especially considering he hasn't really K'd much, and he hasn't had any issues with his contact quality.

If it were Top 5 ROY, I think you’d see less hesitancy. Another very real concern is that you put Holliday on the OD roster, and he’s solid but not eye popping this year. He is better than any alternative we have, but you lose an extra year of control, and a shot at a good draft pick, because of a good rookie class this year.

But we're collectively calling for prospects and tossing talented (if fringey in Baltimore) players because of 4 games with less than expected offense.  2 of them vs. very good LHP.  (And some awesome AAA stats in a similarly SSS.)

There are likely more talented options in AAA today.  But let's not pretend the current guys are junk.  Yes, there are some individual players with bigger questions than others.  But let's look beyond 4 games where we went 2-2.

How many of the 26 are we going to DFA/waive before 5/1?  Or even over the next 2 weeks?  Maybe Kemp for Holliday.  But are we really going to do anything with Urias (for Mayo) or Hays (for what RHH?  Norby?  Mayo despite lacking OF reps?) or Santander or O'Hearn (Mayo/HK/Stowers?)?

Are we trading any them before AS break?

Roman wasn't built in a day.  And it's not burning either.

Not trying to say hard decisions don't need to be made eventually.   But after game 6 with a 4-2 record?

I should have titled the threat "perspective" instead.  But went with what I see as the SSS influencer - facing some quality LHP and happening to not do well.  Better days are ahead... even vs. LHP.  Even with the current team.

Are people calling for that because of 6 games, or does it date back to last year? One of the people were talking about tossing aside is Kemp, who was signed two weeks ago. Also, people have been suggesting that Urias and/or Mateo be traded, not tossed aside.

Hays and Adley should bat 1-2.  Love Gunnar, but bat him 5th or 6th vs lefties.

Is there a different Hays? Because Austin has been terrible so far.

Gotta do better than that. Geez O’Hearn.

I mean that’s not on OHearn. That’s on Hyde and Elias. You can’t put him out there. Just like you couldn’t put Mullins at SS. Put players in positions to succeed. We have enough good ones to be able to do it effectively. OHearn should never be in the OF.

He's watching Mayo try to play third base.  Its not just about the bat.

Can’t we just be honest and say he’s waiting until service time works in the team’s favor, but when it’s not obvious that’s what he’s doing?

But it’s absolutely what you are implying.

It’s been said and implied by many here this off-season. Whether it was explicitly said, a lot of the reactions to reasonable questions have been to reference 101 wins

Cowser can play CF. Nobody would want him to for an extended period. And I don't get the impression that ME thinks Kjerstad or Mayo are ready for a permanent promotion right now. Either way, this situation will resolve itself in due time, and we'll win a ton of games along the way.

We’re not talking about an extended period. We’re talking about once a week.

Didn’t he put Kjerstad on the playoff roster last year? But he’s not ready for KC at home? And if he doesn’t think Mayo is ready, then I’m not sure what he’s watching.

Of those 3 players, only one has a platoon mate that I care about, and that's Cowser for Hays. O'Hearn is just RH Mountcastle-lite, and I'm not sure who Ced's backup is to be completely honest now that McKenna is gone. So who is on the roster that you're advocating for? Or is that the real question?

They're in a tough spot with Hays, Mullins, Mountcastle, and O'Hearn. None are all that great (though all can go on white hot streaks), and none are near bad enough to just cut bait. Doesn't seem like any of them would bring a lot back in a trade, and I'm not really sure who would replace any of them at this exact moment.

Cowser can play CF too. Also, we could have Kjerstad/Mayo up to push for ABs at 1B/DH.

Perhaps when you’re winning 101 games you don’t screw with what’s working?   I guess if this year goes much worse than last year did, you’ll see them trying to shake it up more.

Yes, I know, how dare we question anything. They won 101 last year.

He did turn it around the last 5ish weeks of the season.

But he’s not an everyday player and the Os have to stop treating him as one.

That’s the biggest thing. And it’s not just Hays, they do the same thing with Mountcastle and Mullins. The unwillingness to find ABs for young players is baffling.

Do you think he’s calling the pitches? I don’t …..

i think Dean is a slow starter … his ERA last year was north of six, in 2022 he wasn’t up until June. In 2021 his April ERA was in the 8s.

Ummm, you do know that pitchers shake off calls right?

Very fair. I actually missed the bloop. Where I still put it on Kimbrel is that he does nothing to hold runners and no longer has the swing and miss stuff to be able to completely ignore baserunners like Bautista.

I can’t even imagine what Buck would’ve thought about his TTTP.

    Baumann is dog water, bruh.

At least we get him out of the way early in the season. I don’t see it with him and I don’t get what others see.
