  1. I do not like the Witt deal and I do wonder how it impacts future deals. I don’t understand why more in teams not mirror the Seattle deal with Julio Rodriguez. Lots of shared risk.
  2. I think this is pretty fair. And it explicitly states they can easily imagine this team outperforming those expectations.
  3. I like the move. By Hays. I don’t think it’s a good move right now for the Orioles, but I like the move. I think Frobby said it best. I don’t know what type of season it would take to consider a Hays extension, but it almost certainly would mean that Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers disappointed.
  4. This is all I was referring to regarding the Yankees. I don’t think there is a bias, but their players are usually more established with history of numbers.
  5. I do think it is fair to criticize projections as having some “Yankee” bias. But it should be easy to understand. Their players are big name players who have put up numbers. Repeating those numbers within a certain range makes sense. Judge for me is an interesting case study. He is amazing when healthy there is no doubt. But he hasn’t been durable and the Yankees insist on playing him in CF which seems to me to speed his decline. I guess I am saying I don’t think projections are biased, but that they are more likely to inflate the high salary teams because of past performances. The same is true in reverse for the Orioles with so many young players. The Orioles are more likely to be under rated because they lack the past to project. Their success in areas like 1 run games should not be repeatable but it’s hard to project player growth for a team that is very young. I am fine with where the O’s are projected.
  6. No reason they can’t both play. Hays takes the lead role. Cowser gets a steady but smaller role. He can earn more or Hays can earn more. It’s quite possible this brings out the best in Hays while allowing Cowser to have a steady rip.
  7. Let it play out on the field. Coward can take it away or Hays can beat him back. This is a good problem to have. And we should remember not every single one of the Oriole prospects are going to max out. Even if it feels that way.
  8. This is precisely why you keep both. Let Cowser best him. To you it won’t be hard. But if he can’t he still provides a slightly above average with upside….
  9. Bigger point? As if they are related? The two points are not even closely related. Any he was an all star IS a weak argument that a player is good… But it’s about as weak as Hays is one of the worst All Stars ever.
  10. I’m pretty sure they said they were waiting for you to buy season tickets.
  11. There. Has. Been. No. Mental. Shift. For Elias.
  12. There remains plenty of work to do. But it struck me this morning, that what I feel right now.....is the closest I have been to feeling what I felt when I was a kid. The Orioles were good last year. They were already going to be good this year. There was a lack of a certified TOR to take towards October....even if you believe fully in Bradish and Rodriguez. And there were questions about if the Orioles could afford to compete even harder. The last 48 hours or so have lifted this team into a different stratosphere. I am not saying print the banners and schedule the parades...but the level of expectations with new ownership and a true ACE to lead the charge in 24 is something amazing. Back in the old days, we expected to be good and we expected to compete for titles. And most importantly, not JUST for this year. For those of you who do not know what that felt like. It felt a lot like the last two days.
  13. Yes, admittedly, in these exuberant times, I too have multiple pages of OH open at the same time. But I am not getting work done, twice as fast...so there is that.
  14. I think it isn't that easy. You the events as being two events in 24 hours. But it didn't go down like that. Those conversations for the sale...and the trade have been ongoing for months. The difference is Elias has been aware of both sides and we have not. I can assure you though that Elias has not been sitting on his hands. That said, I do believe that the very small chance of keeping Burnes if he falls in love with Baltimore, made Elias pull the trigger. But the primary factors were likely these: 1). Cost of Burnes for 1 year was not cheap, but left the farm still stacked and the top 5 on board. 2). Burnes is better than Cease, and the massive price of Cease did not justify the second year. 3). Landing an actual, indisputable TOR literally made heads explode in NY, BOS and TOR. IF the Orioles were to sign say....Montgomery, THEN, I would say the new ownership is giving the nod.
  15. In the saga of Cease vs Everyone else, Getz turns out to be the biggest loser. Tune in this summer, when the Orioles refuse to Cease their pursuit and Getz their man, sending Ramon Urias to the White Sox for Cease.
  16. There is always risk involved in trading. But the Orioles traded for an elite pitcher and arguably still have the number one farm system in baseball. Burnes could perform poorly, but this is a fantastic deal and caps a simply unbelievable 24 hours to be an Oriole fan. Lift off has arrived in a big way. And as an old friend used to say...I'm just... Hangin on for the ride.
  17. I do not think it would reasonable to expect Cal Ripken to have any real working capacity in the front office. His participation is much more likely to be a sign of roots here in Baltimore. And his position is likely to be more of a figurehead. But of course this remains to be seen.
  18. This is a well crafted ownership group. It is nearly bullet proof. It has plenty of financial backing beyond the price, it has local ties, it has diversity, it has past Oriole history. If this group runs the Orioles as tightly as this group and deal have been put together... Well, I will just say I am pretty optimistic. This proposed sale has uncovered some pretty large bills that are coming due however. And while the ultimate transfer will come after the death of PA, it is likely not far into the future. John Angelos may be the db many here are claiming, but his stewardship of the Orioles over 5 years has set the table in a way very few franchises have ever been prepared at the time of their sale. That, aside from his pompous other failings, will always be his legacy here. And it will look better over time if this group successfully delivers titles. As for Peter...the small amount of good he brought Baltimore was destroyed during the 14 Years of Darkness and his meddling in the only two periods of success shortened both of those small windows. Three decades. It appears to be over. Hallelujah.
  19. Are you trying to say we are not getting Snell and Montgomery and Cease and the Elias, Adley, Gunnar and Jackson extensions before pitchers report? Pessimist!
  20. Well I’ll be damned. I had being abducted by an alien on my 2024 bingo card for yesterday.
