    Stiven Acevedo

As I recall Acevedo signed in May 2019 for $ 275,000. I remember some folks said if he had waited until July 2 he would have gotten closer to $1,00,000. Elias signed some internationals before July 2, 2019. Acevedo got the biggest bonus and looks like the best. I remember he is 6'4", plays centerfield and was stealing some bases and occasional power. He might be on Tony's Top 50 list. Tony said he stood out at the Instructs last Fall.
  2. They won't draft the best player available. The best player willing to sign underslot available. And presumably has to be a bat.
  3. Keith Law said #18 in February. Very top heavy system. Obviously the system is acquiring hitters while ignoring pitchers. I always said people believe what they want to believe.
  4. Pitcher Luis Sanchez has been demoted from FCL Orioles Orange to DSL Orioles 1. He received a $200,000 bonus in November 2019. Of course 2020 was lost with Covid. Just overwhelmed in the FCL with no professional experience. $200,000 is the 3rd highest bonus to a pitcher that i'm aware of. Luis Ortiz $400.000 Moises Chace. $225. 000 .Luis Sanchez. ,$200,000 Devi Cruz $200,000
  5. Waived by cubs today. Has been horrible this year so this is probably the end. Had a good career once he was traded to the cubs. Then a few good years with the Fighin Phil's. Career 23.6 WAR. 2015 NL CY winner Career 115 wins, 90 losses. Most successful Orioles pitcher after he left Orioles Park. That's why no premium free agents will come unless the park is reconfigured to help pitchers.
  6. So on Tony's Aug 9 updated top 50 prospects how many were pitchers Elias has drafted in his 3 drafts ? Think a low number.
  7. I think they're trying to limit the number of farmhands in full season baseball. I really wonder how much longer we'll be able to have 4 short season teams. Just eliminate the more marginal players. And I also don't think we'll ever have the 40 round draft ever again. I think the 20 round draft is permanent. And you can still sign free agents but only for $20,000. They've already capped the international signing process with their bonus pool restrictions.
  8. Tony has Rom at #10. Alex Wells ahead of Rom tells me whoever did BAs list is really not current with the Orioles system. Our only homegrown pitching prospects were drafted by Duquette. Rodriguez, Hall, Rom I tend to take a more favorable opinion of Duquette. I think he was working in an impossible environment with a meddling old owner. Just like my football team, the Dallas Cowboys. A meddling old multibillionaire fool who appointed himself General Manager.

    8/10 Moves

Actually Del Rosario is a Duquette signee from.August 2018. Older guy now 22. Big guy that caught my eye in 2019 for his strikeouts. There's a similar guy, Charbel Abboud, on Orioles 1. 6'6" 236 pounds from Venezuela. Signed in July 2019. Baseball America stated he threw 94 as a 16 year when he signed. He pitched today and struck out all 4 men he faced. For some reason he has only pitched 5 innings this year.
  10. Baseball America has a new updated Top 30 prospect list for all teams. The Orioles first 4 draft choices made their new list. Cowser,Norby, Trimble and Rhodes. They even commented on how they are slowly, steadily building their system. Since free agent pitchers will not come here you wonder about the draft priorities, though.
  11. For what it's worth I compared Yankees 1 to our teams. They have MUCH BETTER stats. But they're older. More like 19 years old. Our guys are typically 17 and just signed up January 15. One day we should catch and pass the Yankees internationally. Every year our international bonus pool is larger than theirs. For being a small market/small revenue team. Plus when the Yankees splurge on someone like Cole they lose draft dollars and international dollars. Interesting (to me) the Yankees only have one FCL team. With all the depth they have.
  12. Is there really any local person with deep pockets interested in the Orioles ? Or would the minority owners just acquire the team ? I think that's a great question.
  13. I always compare the orioles to my favorite national league team. They have crummy corporate ownership. They used to be owned by a billionaire playboy who spent freely. Now they can't spend like the Dodgers or even the Padres now. Orioles will never catch Yankees or Red Sox in payroll. They have almost nothing from Latin America over the last 5 years because they were suspended for cheating. The Orioles have just gotten involved with Elias since 2019. Their fan base mostly cares about college football and their home town NFL team. Baltimore cares a lot more about the Ravens. Not so much the Terps. One team stresses drafting/developing pitchers. Even with all the risks associated with high school arms, Obviously Baltimore does not. At least our organization is doing a good job developing the pitchers they inherited. Peralta was good for Norfolk tonight.
  14. Elias has done a lot that I like. But after 3 drafts he doesn't have a single legitimate pitching prospect that he drafted & developed. Maybe Baumler will come around after his Tommy John.
  15. If you're looking for a fantasy player in a very deep league consider Anderson De Los Santos. 3rd baseman/shortstop for Orioles 1. 17 years old. 5'11" 185 lbs. Batting .324/432/568. 37 at bats, 7 walks, 8 strikeouts. 2 homers. 3 errors at 3rd, 2 errors at short. $350,000 bonus on Jan 15. Maikel Hernandez gets most of the starts at short for Orioles 1. Maybe there is footage on YouTube. Got their only hit today.
  16. Victor Gonzalez is back in action for Orioles 2. Came over in the Miguel Castro trade with the Mets. $250,000 bonus. Considered a throw-in, Kevan Smith was the prime asset.

    FCL happenings

Multiple draft picks starting in the field for the Orange today. College guys picked in July. All 3 outfielders and 3 infielders.
  18. Two run homer in first at bat Friday against Orioles Orange. Multiple July draft picks starting for the Orange.
  19. I saw Valaika hit some real blasts last year. Sorry he regressed. Didn't nearly have the year that ZIPS projected for him
  20. Orioles 1 loses 6 to 2. Falls to 4 and 9. Looks like they have the better prospects. Basilio, Hernandez, De Los Santos had good days at the plate. Orioles 2 wins 1 to 0. Improves to 7 and 8. Nobody on the radar here yet. Just a Competitive team.
  21. I'm pulling for both. But there are some teenage latins in Florida that will push some of these older guys aside next year. Acevedo, Josue Cruz, Deshon, Isaac Bellony.
  22. I think Janvarin and Sparks are probably gonna get released. To old and to late. I was pulling for Janvarin. He is reputedly the fastest man in the organization since 2019.
  23. Orioles Black playing a double header. Leading 3 to 1. Colby Mayo doubled. Orioles Orange rained out.
  24. Prospect-heavy Orioles Black has 6th round pick Colin Burns shortstop from Tulane. Same school.as Hudson Haskins. Got an overslot deal. Playing the Braves today. Stiven Acevedo hit his 1st homer patrolling centerfield. A 6-4 centerfielder basestealer.
  25. Has Anderson De Los Santos has been the early surprise for Orioles 1 ? Hitting .333/385./625. Moved from short to 3rd base. $350,000 bonus For Orioles 2 Bencosme has been playing short and hitting .350/435./600. He is 18, not 17. But his 1st year in pro ball. Don't think he got a 6 figure bonus. Well you hear about internationals that only got a 5 figure bonus that way over produced. Benscosme could be one.
