The biggest reason I have DISH is I absolutely love Formula 1 on ESPN. The offtimes hapless Ferraris are much improved. With the Competitive Balance picks and larger international bonus pools MLB is attempting to balance the playing field.

No it's not the Yankees vs the Dodgers for the World Series. But the Big(er) Money Teams are still leaving the Miamis', Kansas Citys' Pittsburghs', Cinncinnati's and Baltimores in the dust. University of Conneticut has a great lefthanded 1st baseman/relief pitcher named Reggie Crawford. 6'4" 235 lbs. Was going to be a 1st round pick next July. Struck out 17 of the 33 batters he faced last year. Braves draft 20th and wanted him as a pitcher. Unfortunately he had Tommy John surgery last week.

Well, I wouldn't risk leaving him unprotected. I think he has some trade value at the worst. Can play right field, has plus power if not plus plus power (476 foot homer). Can steal a base and seldom strikes out. You don't want another Yaztremski embarressment.

From what we know about Elias I think he wants a college hitter who fits a need and will consider an underslot deal. Yeah, sounds like he might be an Elias type guy.

So a small consensus seems to think Orioles will go with California-poly shortstop at 1-1. 6'2" and 205 lbs. Switchhitter with all fields power and good hit tool. Can make the routine plays flawlessly but some people question his range and think he ends up at 3rd. He would have a 1st round pick out of high school but he went to college to play for his dad. There were some other high school names mentioned for 1-1. Elijah Green, Andrew Jones' son, Temarr Johnson. I can't see Elias taking a high schooler. The fan base wants results NOW, not in 4 or 5 years.

The Marlins fan originally asked if Sanchez and Meyer would get Mullins and Rutschman. MLBTR then replied no way for Rutschman. But Orioles would consider Cedric Mullins to Miami Marlins for righthanders Sixto Sanchez and Max Meyer. Both Miami pitchers are considered future aces, especially Meyer.. Sanchez, age 23, was very good in 2020 but had minor surgery last year. Meyer was the 3rd overall pick in 2020 draft. Dominated AA this summer. If I was Baltimore I'd do this. One more thing about Junior Lara, then I'll shut up. I noticed when he wasn't in centerfield, he was in right. So not only can he hit, he's fast, and he's got a right fielder's arm. That's what we used to call a 5 tool player. There were 2 standout 19 year old pitchers, Morillo and Vasquez. Both right handed starters. They were on different teams. The only 17 year old pitcher of note was Deivy Cruz a smallish lefthander, $200,000 bonus. But as I recall he had more strikeouts than innings.

Good to see speedy centerfielder Prado in action. I agree with Frobby, I would think speedy 17 year old Junior Lara would have been on my Instructs team. I think the biggest omission is 18 year old Orioles 2 shortstop Frederick Benscome. He carried the team to a respectable 25 and 30 record. Batting left handed he hit .310/.365.451. 6 doubles, 4 triples, 2 homers, 10 for 13 steals. 18 Ks in 142 at bats. Hits the ball in the air 60% of the time. He played a little 3rd too.

He was expected to sign with the Yankees. He was very good batting .239/.338/.410 for a .748 OPS. 5 homers, 8 doubles. Now in Instructional League. Led Orioles 1 in homers and RBIs 17 year oldShortstop Maikol Hernandez received $1.2 million. He hit .231/.340/.308 for a .647 OPS. No homers, only 4 for 7 in steals. He is in the Instructional League so they still believe in him. 17 year old 3rd baseman Anderson De Los Santos received $350,00. He hit a robust..324/.409/.495 for a .905 OPS. He also filled in at short, but made to many errors. A little error prone at 3rd, but he's a converted shortstop. Only 18 strikeouts in 127 at bats, 15 walks. 6 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers, 3 for 4 steals. Tremendous 1st year, now in the Instructructional League. 17 year old speedy centerfielder Junior Lara received $160,00. Batted .344/.434/.500 in only 77 at bats. So he missed half the season with an injury. 17 year old Rightfielder Wilmer Feliciano received $400,000. He struggled with strikeouts and groudouts. Hit .202/.312/.353 for a .665 OPS. Hit 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 homers. Also 3 for 3 in steals. 119 at bats, 45 strikeouts, 70% groundouts to 30% flyouts. Terrible ratios for a big-time power hitter. I would think his swing can be corrected. I was disappointed in Orioles 1. 13 and 39 overall. With all those bonus babies, still a young team. Orioles 2 was a competitive team with modest bonus players. 25 wins 30 losses. Their most intriguing player was 18 year old Shortstop Frederick Benscome. He was a late Class of 2019 signee. 6 feet 160lbs left handed power from a shortstop. 142 at bats, 6 doubles,4 triples, 2 homers, 11 walks, only 18 strikeouts. 10 steals in 13 attempts. 60% flyouts to 40 % ground outs. I would have thought he should be in Instructional League teaching others how to make contact and put the ball in the air !!!!

I was "ALL IN" until the Draft. That's when I lost interest in the "Rebuild I'm content to just wait until the Short season leagues resume playing. And we'll have an all new class of Internationals to enjoy and post about. I'll continue to watch for your posts, Mr Solicitor.

I'm sure Peralta must be protected in the Rule 5 Draft. He signed in 2013 and he's at least 25.

HEY RZNJ !! This is how I THINK it goes. I don't claim any inside information. These kids play each other in the Dominican Prospect League. Ages 14, 15, 16 maybe 17 maybe 18. Scouts from all 30 teams are invited to attend. Probably all these kids already have an an agent/trainer. The agents negotiate with the MLB scouts. If they reach a verbal agreement the kid quits working out for the other 29 teams. If all goes well both sides sign on July 2nd of the year the player turns 16. Unfortunately, there's a very ugly underside to the process, Frequently the MLB team won't sign the player at all or only pays a small portion of what they promised. The player may not have worked out publicly for a year or. two and has little bargaining power. It's disgraceful how these players are treated. MLB and the Players association KNOW this is going on. And do nothing. USA Today did an expose last summer, 2020. They named names. The Padres broke their agreement with a couple of prospects, I believe Dominicans.

Connor Norby is probably your future 2nd baseman. I suspect every pitch and every at-bat are logged and recorded in the DSL just as they are in here in the Majors and Minors. That's how the Orioles found Pinto, Deson and others.

Bencosme was a total unknown. He was signed after the July 2, 2019 class but before the Jan 15, 2021 class. I don't think the Orioles had hardly any bonus pool money left. So I think he got a small bonus. The minimum bonus that's allowable is $10,000. Jean Pinto got $10,000 from the Angels cause he was already 18 and in a poor bargaining position. I don't know how, but the Braves have signed a large really nice power hitting rightfielder for $10,000 in the last 2 international classes while under spending limitations.

The problems are the cheap home runs in left and especially right field. It does make for exciting, high scoring games that should draw viewers and stadium crowds. When I had MASN I enjoyed all the scoring, knowing the game was always in doubt.

Just named baseball America's #4 Florida complex league prospect. Still questions he will stay at 3rd.
