I think the mental stress angle is way overplayed. Every season we see multiple guys move into the closer role and do just fine. The number that seemingly can't handle the stress is pretty small.

I didn't say that I would have Kimbrel set up and Cano close. I asked if he would be willing to come into the season as something other than the designated Closer.

Would he be OK with being the set up guy for Cano? If he's not hard set in the Closer role this looks a bit better to me.

When players pitch in one inning bursts you are going to see that type of drop off. You can't have a string of 5IP 4ER allowed. You are either going to get a 0 ERA outing or an at least 9 ERA outing. He got blown up in the playoffs in 2023, he was removed from the playoff roster in 2022. The O's should be looking to do better.

It's conceivable that Elias is just extraordinarily risk adverse. I don't think that's the case but I do think he's more risk adverse than most.

If they were fraternal they wouldn't have identical genetic material and I wouldn't have used them as an example. (I'd have used Kim and Kelly Deal)

I think holding on to aging backups when you have ML ready prospects in the pipeline is a bad idea.

Naw, Eduardo Rodríguez is the guy I think should be a realistic target. Or one of the Mariner arms since word is they are actually going to try and flip one. I'm just worried they end up with a placeholder guy because they refused to step up with money or prospects.
