If your sweet spot as a hitter is technically a ball should you not swing? Of course you shouldn't swing at balls that you can't actually drive.

I'm not disagreeing with any of this. I find issue with the attitude that some folks seem to have that Mountcastle just doesn't feel like being a better hitter.

I don't buy it's that easy. More guys would show large amounts of growth in this area if it was. If you could just set him down (Get a player to do it if you think he won't listen to a coach) and just show him how much better his numbers would be and how much more money he would earn. Why wouldn't you? Why not ask Frazier why he just doesn't hit the ball harder and in the air? Just because something is perceived as being more mental than physical doesn't mean it's an easy fix.

I get that folks are frustrated but I also think that folks greatly underestimate how difficult it is to make wholesale changes in your approach. I get a vibe that folks think that Mountcastle could be super selective and just chooses not to be. Do you think Adam Jones wanted to chase Sliders out of the zone?

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean they can get the extra year? That's past. Super 2 is still in play. And he of course can do like Adley did and earn his freedom a year earlier.

Even if that is true it doesn't mean Elias is going to cut him or even take away his the majority of his at bats.

It's frustrating to watch Elias bring up guys like Vavra and Stowers, who might be something but might not and then not give them enough playing time to find out.

If a player is added via posting they are under team control as if they had been drafted or signed as a 16 year old. Nothing is stopping a team from sending that player down. Look at what Ohtani has been making while being the best player in the game. Now someone like Chen or Koji who signed a normal free agent contract, I can see them being excluded.

For me it depends. If they are international free agents I agree with you but if they are posted they should be able to earn the year of service time and get the additional payment.

Mountcastle's 2020 season was greatly impacted by luck. A significant number of his hits were of the infield variety and the product of poor contact.

Or you promote them in a season in which you were not expecting to be competitive so their adjustment doesn't hurt your team's playoff chances.
