  1. One year bounce backs you start talking about guaranteed contracts, opt outs, team options. Lots of stuff can be a factor over putting up stats.
  2. It depends on the situation. A person would have to be incredibly talented to make the jump from DSL to the Majors. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but what about the O's presence in the DR makes you think they have that level of talent announcing games?
  3. I think the Elias screwed this one up. Unless they send them down the O's don't get the extra year. Pretty sloppy mistake IMO.
  4. I'd hate to rush someone. I think they should have to publicly announce at all the various levels and earn their way to the majors.
  5. It is possible the questionable ones have been deleted.
  6. That was my first thought but why wait until opening day? They probably had to pay mileage for the replacement announcer.
  7. The timing is beyond questionable. I wonder if an accusation of questionable behavior is involved.
  8. I'm not advocating the elimination of AA. I'm not suggesting that some or even most players wouldn't get value out of AA that they couldn't get out of playing at the same age in the majors. I'm guessing that if you got scouts off the record and asked if certain elite prospects would be OK skipping AA some would agree.
  9. It struck me as curious that they played him at first late last season.
  10. I think pretty much the entire league participates in some degree of service time manipulation. I've spoken a tiresome amount on the topic already and would rather not subject the rest of the board so DM me if you want me to pontificate further. (I'm not sure why you would but the offer stands).
  11. You mean if Harvey's ERA is 5.50 instead of 5.39? I know you aren't suggesting that Mountcastle is, all by himself, going to cause a 1.5 run differential. Anyway yea, I don't see that being a factor in attracting free agent pitchers. Unless the O's hand over money pitchers are only going to come here as a last resort.
  12. You have three cutoffs. Time to get an extra season of team control Time to avoid Super Two status Time to keep a player's rookie status intact. I'd never heard of anyone caring about the third but Elias has done it twice now so my tin foil hat theory is he cares. I expect AR to get called up this year but still have his rookie status intact for 2022.
  13. Because I'm against gaming a player's service time and would rather teams extend them if they want them under control longer. I'm hopeful this gets changed in the next CBA even if it ends up biting teams like that Orioles that participate in the practice.
  14. No pitcher is going to base his decision on if the O's have Mountcastle in the outfield. No one is going to be adding up the pluses and minuses of various offers and have the tipping point be the defense in left field. The list is going to look something like this: If ownership is willing to pay Playing in the AL East Playing in OPACY 897. Defense in left field
  15. If Adley had been a HS player or hadn't been 1-1 or if the O's were trying to be make the playoff this season or if the O's didn't have a glaring need at catcher I'd agree with you. Since Adley was a college player that was chosen 1-1 in an organization that isn't trying to win and that has a glaring need at catcher I don't agree.
  16. My complaint? About the catching? I want either Sisco or Severino replaced with AR. That's my complaint.
  17. In Moose's defense he's been calling Kjerstad a bust since the pick was made.
  18. No one is suggesting that the O's should be a contender this season but it is very clear they built this team with no expectations to win games.
  19. Shame ownership and management don't.
  20. One would think there was a story there that folks might be interested in. I guess the local media doesn't think so.
  21. But if it is as important as some groups make it out to be you wouldn't need to provide any value at the plate. I don't feel like digging it up right now but I've seen estimates of a catcher's framing being worth four wins over 120 games in a given season. Who needs a bat when you can do that? Four wins for framing, one win for other defense, negative three wins with the bat and you are still an average ML player. Once again I'm not saying it doesn't have value.
  22. Right. But it isn't like the days of yore in which catchers were expected to know all the hitter tendencies and map things out. These days a kid gets called up from the minors and the book on how to get him out is already in the hands of the ML club.
  23. Sure but an electronic strike zone was specially mentioned and that would only impact framing.
  24. In today's game pitch calling and positioning shouldn't be handled by the catcher. The analytics department should have all of that mapped out.
