Yes, it is a rare occurrence....but occasionally teams do somehow get a Justin Verlander, a Clayton Kershaw, a Gerrit Cole, aMax Scherzer, a Zack Greinke etc....you know, a horse, a guy that is a TOR.......just not us, ever.
Hard to see how this change would disincentivize tanking. I think it would likely increase it...the time period from tanked to new playoff level...i.e 14th, would be overall shorter so it would be even easier to sell it as a strategy.
The only part of this I like is it would get rid of the one game wild card...if they are going to have any kind of playoffs, best of 3 is a minimum, otherwise don’t have it at all.
I too am really done with Mark Turgeon. He is never going to take this team anywhere close to a championship as his teams are just filled with lack of focus, intensity or discipline.
Certainly the bullpen can be worse. Last year’s surprises can regress too.
Nope, it is hard to see much, if any improvement over last year’s team and plenty of scuffmarks.
Pennington entered and threw two pitches. The first, a wild pitch, allowed a run to score. The second, Griffey's homer, brought three runs to the plate. Oates sent Pennington to the showers and O's fans responded by showering the young Indiana native with boos.
"I was booing too," said Pennington. "We worked so hard to get the 6-3 lead, those fans have the right to boo."
The O's demoted Pennington to the minor leagues the following day.
As for Griffey, the 24-year-old center fielder expressed relief after helping his team end its losing streak and compared his 1994 Eutaw Street longball to the exhibition shot that hit the Warehouse the previous season.
Said Griffey: "I hit this one harder."
Yes, I know. My point was to contrast the situation in the OP where your team cheats to win the Series, wins it, fans get thrilled...like Houston...then the scandal is revealed and fans are devastated. But White Sox fans in 1919 never got to be thrilled because their team cheated to lose, not win, the Series. So when they were subsequently revealed, fans did finally have an explanation...well, we WERE the better team and could have won except for those cheaters.
It would be worse to have the embarassment and humiliation of the discovery after the thrill of winning while not knowing they were cheating....At least the Black Sox cheated to lose...so their fans at least weren’t happy after getting a World Series win and then having to lose it.
A
It has been exactly what I both expected and hoped for.
His hires have been very good, particularly Sig and Kobe Perez and Chris Holt and Brandon Hyde.
He has been aggressive in restructuring and rebuilding international and scouting and development analytics where we have been woeful.
His communication has been better than any GM- open, realistic and focused.
He appears to have an excellent relationship and understanding with ownership
His first draft was very good to excellent.
He hired Luke.
Man, how could it not be an A?
