    No Ohtani v. Trout

Is this basically the team shutting him down as a pitcher? Shame if so, club teams would never do that for the World Cup

I like Vavra, but a super sub that can't play short or third is not particulary super.  I think he's a second baseman that will likely be replaced by Westburg or Norby; maybe as soon as '23.  I wish that he'd been given more time at 2nd, and Stowers more time in RF, after they were promoted, but that ship has sailed.

It depends on the rest of your team makeup to me. If the other infielders are Mateo, Henderson and Urias then you’ve got 3 guys that can play short and 2 that can play 3rd. Vavra spells at 2B, 1B, LF and DH. Some value in that if he can progress as a hitter.

I think it would make sense to lower the wall and have some kind of porch there, like the flag court but with picnic tables or something.

The Braves have something like this in RF, with a section of bar seating basically. The Nats have it in LCF but it is behind a row of standard seating. I don’t love it in either place, but at least the Nats pack them in in front of the casual fans there for socializing.

Camden is a great democratic ball park in that respect, standing room in right, tightly packed seats behind home where an average Joe can scrape together enough for a ticket if they really want. I don’t love the $35 upper deck seats, but otherwise I hope they don’t change too much.

They should just paint WALLTIMORE across it in giant letters.

I don’t know what else they could do with it except bring it in maybe 10 feet. Overall, I liked the wall this year. I didn’t see as many doubles and triples as expected but I think it was an overall positive for us

They should certainly do something to make the wall blend better. This years version looked thrown together, two sets of padding just stacked on top of one another. We don’t need another video or LED screen, though.

I’d say it’s a little early to say that Gunnar isn’t. He’s been worth almost a full win in his first month in the majors. Certainly more great SS’ than C’s, but Gunnar seems to have at least MVP potential.

Still would take Adley between the two.

Interesting that a SS hasn’t won the award since Jimmy Rollins in 2007. 2 2B’s and 4 3B’s have in the meantime.

Coming in to this season most people it seemed were expecting GG defense and an 800+ OPS from Adley, and I tried to temper expectations, pointing out that if he did that for a decade he'd be a hall of famer.

Well he did just that, and then some, and he looks exactly like a "one in a generation" catcher, so he'd be my choice.  Gunnar looks like a fine prospect, but he doesn't look one in a generation.

Not worth it, especially to the Jays who are starting a playoff series in two days. If they lost one of their frontline guys it would be beyond ridiculous. Something will probably be done to avoid such a thing at some point but they'll probably wait until it bites of these playoff clubs in the butt.

What could possibly be done from a league perspective? It’s up to the Jays to protect their guys, and hopefully help us get a couple more W’s.

I don’t know how relevant it is to baseball contracts but tons of football players have incentives they are trying to reach on the last game.

  8. This lineup is pretty upsetting. I got tickets for the last game of the season expecting/hoping to see Adley and Gunnar and the rest of the “A” lineup. Can’t make the first game today and that hope looks to be screwed by the double header.

This is extremely subjective. A good portion of your listed players haven’t even played a major league game.

Outside of the obvious “core” guys, I can only name two, the rest are just guys you’re hoping are the core. Plus, if the core first basemen is hitting like Ryan Mountcastle, then you’re not aiming high enough.

I guess it depends on if you think this year or last year is the Real Mountcastle. Last year’s numbers have him as borderline top 10 at the position. I think he’ll be closer to last year and could pop higher year to year. Top 10 1B with elite Catcher and SS/3B and you’ve got a good foundation.

Mateo is a fun story but we need to move on.  We got Henderson to play SS.  Westburg to play third and Ortiz to play second.  Mateo needs to go.

I’ve been repeating this a ton but it’s silly to me to just assume those two guys will be able to step in and immediately duplicate or exceed Mateos production.

The shortstop should be the captain of the infield right? Most teams that have veteran shortstop types have the shortstop coming in for mound visits. You don’t think it’s strange at all that Henderson and Urias and even Mountcastle come in for mound visits and he doesnt?

I love Mateo, I’ve been for him all this season and last. I’m certainly nitpicking, but isn’t that the point? Henderson seems like an excellent defender and obviously has a special bat. If I’m Mateo I’m trying to find every edge I can to solidify my place as the Shortstop.

Meant Odor not Urias, but him too I guess.

But why? He's one of the best defensive players in the game this season, he's been with the team the entire season, he knows the pitchers and the setup. Mound visits are not QB huddles setting up screen passes. Henderson has barely drank his cup of coffee this season, he should be up there listening and learning. I think you're making a mountain out of a pitching mound.

I don't know about that. He seems to understand a lot of English because when he's been interviewed, he understands the questions but answers in Spanish like most of the Latin players.

It’s true with the interviews, but whatever the reason if he’s going to be the shortstop I want him to want to be in those mound visits. Just interesting that the rookie 3B is joining in every time and he isn’t.

Paraphrasing about what someone told Palmer about Mateo. "If he could hit, they couldn't afford him". lol.

I hope he works on his English this off-season. Seems there have been a lot of mound visits he hasn’t been a part of that Gunnar has as the 3B and I can only assume it’s a language barrier thing.

I think we might of gotten a wild card spot if in early August we had brought up Westburg and Henderson.   Playing so many games with holes in the line up like Mateo, Urias and Odor really hurt coming down the stretch.   No reason to play Mateo next year with options like Henderson at SS and Westburg at third and perhaps Ortiz at second.

But Elias has a plan and he wasnt changing it even for a tiny chance this year at winning.

Still it was a great season.

Mateo has been worth 3.5 WAR and Urias 3.6. That’s a lot to be asking/assuming Westburg and Ortiz will eclipse that.

The city can't walk or chew gum.  Period.  Let alone at the same time.  Look at it.

I live in it, I work in it and I hear ya. But it’s wrong to say/insinuate that because there are other problems you can’t also try and make separate progress in different sectors.

Ok. We can play this game all day. Bonds popped positive for amphetamines.

Bonds is not any different than some utility infielder who took stuff. There is no difference. I get that. The man’s body morphed.

I think the point is that we can play this game all day.

  18. The O’s in stadium experience isn’t great, mostly (entirely) due to concessions. The prices are absurd and the concession workers are terrible. I believe they changed providers recently and let me just say it isn’t working. Running out of hot dogs in the 5th inning, lines running 20 minutes long, no pump condiments and the condiments they do have placed at the beginning of the line. Insanely bad management.
