When a hitter immediately turns around and looks at the catcher, you know he hit the mitt or a string or something. Adley looked like he got his hand caught in the cookie jar (he would be a bad poker player) but the replay showed no movement of the glove so it probably was just a string or just nicked something. Either way, I doubt it stopped the ball from going much further or harder.

Makeup call for the Mateo CS which I was skeptical of.

Since I love using film room on baseball savant, I decided to show all the contact that had 94 EV or more against Kremer last night so everyone can decide for themselves. Personally, I think you guys are arguing over symantics a bit when it comes to "hard hit". Hard hit is defined by anything velocity hit 94 MPH or harder, but it does not constitute a barrel which is much more important because it includes launch angles.

RZNJ is right in that most of the "hard hits" were into the ground, popped upish, or ended up routine outs outside of Altuves's two and one of Tucker's hard fouls. I think there was another Tucker hit that was pretty hard but right at McKenna.

Kremer's GB% has increased 7.2% and his flyball rate has decreased 10.1% so some of that hard contact is going into areas where there's a better chance of getting the player out.

Here's all nine hard contacts last night.

Off topic but I will say rewatching that Tucker fly ball in the 8th it certainly sounded like Adley’s glove was hit. On the replay it didn’t look like it moved.

I'm okay with odor in a bench role. But Gunnar needs to come up now

Odor as a late PH option and occasional match up start is okay. Westburg is making a case too. Odor probably stays bc of expanded roster

Odor stays because it would be insane to DFA  a popular clubhouse mainstay in the middle of a wildcard race in September. It’s not like his performance has drastically fallen off within the year either.

IMO, he’s effectively wild. I don’t think he’s gonna walk a lot of guys but at times he doesn’t make finding the zone look easy. There’s a lot to like and I’m happy we have him but there’s something I don’t fully trust yet.

It’s what made Rivera so incredible. Seems like most other relievers can only be dominant for a couple years. I’d take 2 more like this year from Bautista.

  5. I’m getting it for this month, can be there in 10 minutes if it’s looking like a good game around 730/8.

I imagine there’s some ability on week night games to move down into one of the bleacher seats?

  6. The constant updating of odds and the play by play gambling opportunities are what bother me. Live bets, exotic plays and companies like barstool are really preying on young (mostly) men who can now casually get into it.

As someone who used to bet pretty often, it became hard to enjoy sports if you didn’t have anything riding on it. Took me a while to get over that and now I’ll bet on an NFL game or two a week.

Mostly just wish the gambling weren’t so in your face and you could just follow the game for the stories and athletic feats.

Jessie Coffield (the previous hostess) might be coming back. She had a baby recently, which is why the new boring guy has replaced her for now.

I don’t know if it’s her or the writing but those commercials are really annoying.

If it is, no one can say that this is a great baseball town. It’s one thing if we were out of it, but we’re in the thick of it. There’s no excuse for this weekend to not be a sea of orange.

I did realize the Sunday game is the little league game but still 2hrs from Baltimore. Just wonder how many tix were sold earlier in the season.

Watkins had to pitch 3 innings in mop up duty. That’s hardly a day of rest and don’t try to sell me that it’s the same as a side session. He got bumped so Hall could start and fizzle.

    ***** Disclosure: Note to @Sports Guydon’t have a link*****

None of the big 4/5 bullpen guys pitched yesterday and Baker only threw 15 pitches. Watkins should be available to start Tuesday/Wednesday if they want.

    Um ..no

You insinuated that I was exaggerating his performance by a 1/4 of a run per game to make your point. A 4.76 ERA and 5.00 ERA at AAA are both pretty bad.

He was called up when he was pitching his worst. I asked a question about his era over those last 4 starts that has sabotaged his season and you ignore it with the comment in this post. You can make all the excuses you want but the reality remains the same.

2 of his last 4 starts have been bad. His last start in AAA he allowed 2 runs over 5+ innings with 8k’s.

I didn’t insinuate anything, you were exaggerating his numbers. I didn’t call you a liar or anything like that. You need to take it easy.

For crying out loud. He’s been struggling mightily in his last handful of starts. Nit pick the era but trying to pretend it’s an exaggeration just makes you look like a fool.

So genius…What was his ERA over his last 4 starts? More than 5 runs per game right?  This was stupid move by Elias and Hyde for buying in. The poor decision cost us a chance to win today.

I think you need to step away from the keyboard, there’s no need to attack me.

He had a 5 ERA in AA and AAA this season. His trouble wasn’t amped up. He did what he’s done all season. Why is anyone surprised?

He had a 4.76 era, so a quarter run below 5 and only pitched 3 innings in AA this year.

To act like he’s just been a mediocre pitcher isn’t fair IMO. Really he’s had 4 bad starts and has been on an innings limit. 9 starts with 1 run or less allowed. The control is and has been an issue.

Just watch his at bats. He's not Matt Wieters. Much quieter, much better pitch recognition, FASTER (he can actually run), etc... he's much more of an athlete than Wieters was.

I don’t think the importance/value of his speed can be overstated. I mean the guy was part of a double steal last week and beat the throw!
