    1) The Phillies rotation is still WAY BETTER even with the addition of those 3.

    2) Tarik Skubal is WAY BETTER than any of those 3. He’s left handed, has pin point control and throws 97/98. Which of those 3 that you mentioned have that kind of ability?

    3) What does the addition of any of those 3 do for us next year? What is your plan for a rotation that can compete for a World Series next season?

-Maybe their rotation as a whole, but Burnes, G-Rod and an upgraded 3 matches up very well with their quality.

-I don't think anyone would argue that Skubal isn't way better. It's a question of what can the top flight prospects that are retained do to ALSO improve the team. Maybe ME thinks improving our RH hitting + one of the infield positions from within AND adding a solid 3rd starter is the move.

-Bassitt and Eflin are both under contract for next year, fwiw

You are comparing someone like Steve Pearce, who I like btw, to a legit elite talent like Nelson Cruz?

    Wat?????

I mean....have you ever played a sport in your life?  Ever?  The two are not nor were they ever comparable.

    Boy are you thick.

Super famous people don't just get shot randomly.

Also funny you mention PEDs with Arod and not Ortiz, you don't think he was clean do you?

I didn’t mention PEDs at all. But no, your average ball player doesn’t just smash a bullpen phone randomly.

One of them did steroids and the other did a drug dealer's wife.

I knew there was more to that story, just never looked into it.

  5. I wasn’t bothered by the idea or it going over the game content, they were showing split screen. I just thought it was kind of lame. Ortiz was just freestyling and it didn’t work. “Hey what are you gonna do next? Are you enjoying this?”
Should have had a few targets and one or two interesting things to show.
Also, why do they insist on doing interviews in the field and not when guys are hanging in the dugout? Will get way better content and not impact their performance.

The one benefit to a Holliday trade will always be that his value is higher elsewhere than it is in Baltimore. If his defensive ceiling was 2B, his prospect ranking would be a good bit lower. It’s only #1 because he can play SS. Take Termarr Johnson, for example. He was graded by some as an 80 grade bat in the same draft class but his defensive ceiling was viewed as 2B so guys like Holliday and Druw Jones were valued higher.

Point taken, maybe on value w/r/t the draft. But Johnson isn’t in the same stratosphere as Holiday with what he has done so far in pro ball.

Oh god, it’s actually worse than I thought it’d be. Doesn’t look even remotely like the design language of the stadium or even that area of the park. It looks so damn tacky.

I gotta see it in person to be sure, but that Sheep looks too big.

Santander isn’t getting a QO. If he does, he will take it.

If he stays at the level he’s at now he absolutely will get a QO. And if he does take it I’m sure the Orioles would be happy to have him back for one year at that number.

We may have the better record for the moment, but the Yankees seem poised to come to Baltimore to get right, while the Orioles are in an absolute free-fall with no interest in doing anything differently on or off the field to change that.

A few competently pitched outs by the 1,971st MLB player with the last name Smith isn’t going to move the needle. Gunnar, Adley, Santander and Westburg ALL seem to have Chris Davis Syndrome right now.

Watch their ABs frame by frame as the pitch is delivered. They are turning their heads to look at the baseball as it sails through the strikezone, with the bat on their shoulder. This is a completely worthless action, as you can’t make a decision to swing that late in the pitch delivery.

They need to be looking at the pitcher’s pitching hand and the ball as soon as it comes out of the hand. Then they need to make a decision to swing or not, while the ball is still coming to them, and live with that decision. They are over-analyzing, and their brains are slower than their body can react once they think they recognize the pitch.

They need to recognize the pitch much earlier in the delivery. If they can’t, they need to keep practicing until they regain that instinct. It has to be quick, immediate, reflexive, not something they’re actively thinking about like you would a math problem. There’s no time for that.

Gunnar watching strike 3 over and over and over is exactly what Chris Davis suffered from. I swear to Christ, we need a sports psychologist on staff. Brian Ebel is an accomplished sports physician who is great at helping the players through physical injury, but it doesn’t appear that he is helping them with the grey matter in between their ears.

What about the Yankees says “poised” to you right now? Is it their 6-15 record dating back to the last Orioles series?

Great way to slow down the game.

Likely 2 or 3 challenges per game, retain challenges if you’re correct. A challenge has only been adding 5-10 sec per in AAA. The players and managers down there are big fans of the system by and large.

YES announcers agree it was a terrible third-strike call.

Way to keep the human element in the game!

They’ve all but said they will be going to the challenge system in the next year or two.

  12. I’m watching the Yankees broadcast and man do they love talking about the wall.
“doesn’t matter how far you move the wall, Judge is still gonna hit it over!”

”that would’ve been like 30 rows back on the old wall!”

That isnt a strike to Gunnar.

Yes it was, top of the zone. Gunnar seems to have fallen in love with his eye a bit, feel like a number of caught looking in the last week.

The rain ended up being a pretty short nothing burger as the storms really died out as they approached Baltimore and Anne Arundel County. I was at the game so we all just went inside for a few minutes and came back out.

Obviously it did not affect the Orioles bats as they couldn't hit before, or after the rain delay. lol

That was the quickest rain delay I’ve ever been a part of. Was in the concourse for what felt like 5-10 minutes then back out.

Bodes well for when they add the ABS to the majors.

I think they’re just doing challenge system in AAA Intl now. Which, if that’s true, I wonder how much he is challenging or if pitchers are just wild. Think it’s only 2 challenges per game (retain if correct).

If we win a World Series this year there will be some increased pressure to bring Burnes back. If Burns’s gets a mega deal 300+M then I certainly understand letting him walk but if it’s say 6 or less years less than 225M then with our minimum payroll we should be in on that imo

I think it’s the other way around. If you win a WS it’s mission accomplished, no pressure to push all the chips in.

Two more questions for the locals.  Is the casino walking distance to the stadium and good places to hang out and drink before the game?  We are staying at he Renessaince Inner Harbor which looks walkable.   Thanks!

To add on to my post above, if you’re looking for walking distance and want to check out breweries Checkerspot and Pickett are good options, Wico and M8 also in same vicinity.
If you want to be closer to the Harbor Pratt St Ale House is a good bet and if you wanna party check out the Pickles area.

  18. Casino is definitely walkable, there will be a pretty good crowd heading toward/from Lot H/M8 Beer/Top Golf or Lot O/Checkerspot Brewing depending on which route you take. I’d rather take it during the day time in general, but it isn’t too bad.

Second place in the fan vote.

That doesn't mean they were actually the second most worthy.

I don't hardly think a professional athlete needs the motivation of not making an All Star game to try harder.

I can see it now, Westburg at the plate thinking to himself, I finished second in the fan vote and didn't make the All-star game, I'm going to show them!

    Please.

Now do I expect them to be disappointed?  Sure.  That's normal.

It’s an exhibition for the fans. It isn’t some kind of tournament, we have the WBC for that.

Not to be flippant here, but if you don’t think being snubbed motivates athletes, I don’t know what to tell you. Many of the all time greats talk about proving themselves as why they were able to achieve what they did. The bigger question to me is do any of the guys on our team have that edge? Just based on watching them, O’Hearn is the only guy that “plays angry.” Maybe Grayson.

I certainly hope they don't need to psych themselves up over something like that.

I like to think that just getting swept out of the playoffs last season would be all the extra motivation they need.

Let the fans get butt hurt.

Of course it’s reasonable for a group of highly competitive individuals to see themselves as the 2nd place vote getter and after not getting confirmed by their peers want to really prove their worth.

IMO 3/4 of our positional group had a legitimate claim on an all star nod, when none of them get it, I would hope they are bummed. And the fans that wanted them there have every right to be as well.

It’s hard to argue that Grayson and Kimbrel got snubbed?  Which pitcher should either of them be in place of?  I couldn’t find one.

Santa did get snubbed. He should be in over Duran, Fry, and Greene.

Not sure if you’ve looked at Clay Holmes’ numbers recently but he’s really fallen off.

Burnes is a top level Ace. Grayson is a top level 2. Suarez is a top level 3 with a sub 3 ERA.

Yeah there is a drop of our backend of our rotation. Every team in baseball has that.  You only need 3 SP in the playoffs.

Kremer, and one of Povich/McDermott/Irvin will be just fine in the regular season.

Suarez is a top level 3?

I think Heys is pretty likely to be non-tendered if he’s not traded.   He’s making $6.3 mm this year and would probably be in line for $7-8 mm next year even if he ends up with 250-300 PA like he’s on pace to do.   That’s fine for a full-time OF but not for a part time player.  Therefore, I think they’d part with him in the right deal.

I wonder what he would get on the open market? You see a lot of sign and trade deals in basketball (I know, a different purpose and mechanism than this), but if you think that arbitration number is supported by the market maybe there’s a chance of swinging a deal with him in the offseason, as part of a package or a lottery ticket return.
