This is such a cynical idea, that they’d put him somewhere in the order out of personal pride. First of all, Hyde makes the lineup card, not Elias. Second of all, how many rookies come up and are immediately slotted into a top of the order spot? Adley and Gunnar both batted 6th their first game and Manny was 9th.

Really every championship team will have a guy or two in the Urias/Mateo/Hays mold. The question is going to be how much playing time will they get as the season goes on. From a quick run through the last 6 or 7 WS groupings, it looks like 1 guy with a sub .700 OPS getting ~300PA and that's usually a catcher or utility guy.

You’ve got a real thing for Mullins. It’s really not fair to compare him to the other two. Mullins has shown the ability to be an elite player, or if that was an aberration at least very good. And it isn’t like there is a CF knocking on the door.

I know it would not benefit the O’s, but I’m actively hoping that Holliday gets called up in May or whenever that extra year gets looked in, goes absolutely bonkers to win ROY and no pick comes back. Then again, I think Holliday will be up next weekend.

Sure fine, there are more talented guys in the minors. Is the fact that they aren’t up here right now actually hurting the teams chances at a trophy?

Why is Kemp on the team?

Ok, and they spent 4 of the next 5 picks in that draft on up the middle guys. Of Elias’ 5 drafts, 4 of the 1st picks have been up the middle guys.

You don’t. Nobody sits around searching for a franchise LF. Not to say they don’t exist. If one falls in your lap you’re thrilled. There’s a reason plenty of teams (Orioles maybe chief among them) tend to draft those up the middle positions.

There are hall of famers at every position.

I do think catcher is one of the “franchise” positions. Seems like C, SS, CF, maybe 3B. Pitchers of course. You don’t hear about a franchise left fielder.
