  1. Only position player on the taxi squad was Benboom at C I feel like Stowers has earned the promotion, not a real big fan of this move. Maybe if the team was out of contention. Least Vavra is getting some playing time
  2. McLean officially doesn't sign, highest draft pick not to (although Mets also had a 3rd rounder not sign). I'm thinking either his number changed, or something happened on the physical
  3. I’ll withhold judgement till we know who is coming back but Trey we’ll miss you (and you have to give stowers time to get to the ballpark, probably not going to arrive till late tonight/tomorrow)
  4. Many different things could be going on, but given this was a relatively high pick, & Elias’ track record the last few years, I would be surprised if they didn’t have a number for him pre-draft and weren’t prepared to meet it. Not sure if they spent the money wisely, but one thing you can’t say this year is that the Orioles were cheap.
  5. Slot is just under 800k, so they can still go a little over and sign him, but not much. They’re paying taxes regardless
  6. They can’t. If you don’t sign someone in 1-10, you lose that slot money. That’s what happened to Houston with Atkin. They also lost another player that they’d planned to go overslot on.
  7. Young for all the money. I would guess they offered this to both young and walkers, and walters stuck to 1.7m
  8. I totally posted that in the wrong spot , but I think the McLean pool is separate as they lose the entire slot value if they don’t sign him
  9. Exactly, and you're hoping maybe having 800k presented in reality, along with starting your pro career, and not having to write any more college papers, will sway them off of the 1.5 number they quoted during the draft* *all numbers made up as hypotheticals
  10. In the interview were he decided to return the Miami closer said the Orioles didn't call him. He was taking calls towards the end of the second round. I suspect by round 19, you're mostly just taking fliers on guys your scouts might be going to bat for, or guys who slid due to bonus demands. In all cases, players can also always change their minds: to sign, or not to sign.
  11. McLean probably figures he’ll get around the same amount next year as he was offered this year. But other things in life matter besides money. In this case you’re asking him to forgo playing with his brother, earning his degree, and having a chance at the cws (something he values). The orioles and other teams weren’t willing to offer enough to buy him out of those experiences
  12. Yeah, that's crazy money for a reliever in a draft. My guess is the Orioles took a shot hoping he'd sign for less at the end of the day...and he decided no. I can live with that
  13. If you’re coming into the city, I’d stay in the harbor east/fells area. It’s walking distant to the stadium, pedestrian friendly. But that area has more in terms of restaurants the the inner harbor area. Federal Hill is also great. The water taxi is a good idea, American visionary art museum is both good and unique to Baltimore, same with fort mchenry. From Camden yards you can also hop on the Marc train and get to dc (much easier then driving/parking in dc). Baltimore is a really fun, unique city, with a lot of good food. Stay somewhere downtown and it’s safe and walkable. Don’t hit the block at 2am.
  14. Ortiz is a plus defender at all three premium infield positions. If he hits at all in Aug/Sept, he get selected if the Orioles don't protect him. He's easy to stash as a UI on the bench because he provides defensive value. I think he's pretty close to a lock as well
  15. I thought he'd get around mid-700's. I don't think you throw 1mil at Walters just bc you can though. That said we still have to sign McLean
  16. I think it would make sense for the Orioles to trade one of Mountcastle/Mancini/Santander. I don't think Mancini brings enough back in return to make it worth it. I think Mountcastle is a good player who doesn't really fit with Elias' philosophy, and he has enough cost controlled years left he might get a good return that can help the club in an area of need.
  17. I can't believe I'm actually typing this, and this might just highlight the problem with defensive metrics, BUT: Per Baseball Savant, Ryan is currently 2nd among all ML first basemen in OAA and runs prevented https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/outs_above_average?type=Fielder&startYear=2022&endYear=2022&split=no&team=&range=year&min=q&pos=3&roles=&viz=hide
  18. He’s right, the xBA on that homer was very low. Small ballpark makes it a homer. But you’d like to see him maybe be a little less defensive about it. Otoh he’s gotten beaten around pretty good, so I get it
  19. Keep in mind they’re only going to actually get 50% of whatever the bonus is between taxes and fees. I think starting your career with a good amount of money in the bank to help kick you off and a college degree, isn’t a bad choice.
  20. He’s generally thought of as a plus defensive SS yes. He’s not going to keep up this recent hot stretch, but if he can hit .280/.320/330 he’s an everyday major league starter
