  1. Really does look a lot like Hunter Pence swinging the bat.
  2. I stated last season that Westburg profiles as the O's future 2B, with Ortiz and Gunnar as SS's and Mayo at 3B. A great problem to have would be if Ortiz sticks as a major league SS, moving Gunnar to 3B and Mayo to RF.
  3. True. The irresponsible part is the riding the motorcycle either way, though.
  4. Reading between the lines, it seems very possible that Tatis fractured his wrist in a motorcycle accident and kept the injury quiet until now. Super irresponsible of him if so, and I'd be looking into voiding the contract if I'm the Padres.
  5. I'd take Myers in a salary dump if the Padres include Hassell. Hassell is going to be a stud, wish we had drafted him (or Veen, or Walker) instead of Kjerstad. Taking on Myers to add Hassell would be a great move and wouldn't cost us all that much money. We can buy out Myers for a measly $1 million next year.
  6. I think MLB is going to have to give up on the international draft. Which would be a huge win for the O's. Just my completely amateur opinion.
  7. Agreed. Such a great value, even if OF is fairly deep in the organization.
  8. Likewise. The people taking shots at Pearl Jam are merely outing themselves as people with mediocre taste in music.
  9. Owners agree to universal DH and getting rid of draft pick compensation for free agent signings (if I am understanding correctly). Love the universal DH. I'm optimistic about a deal getting done fairly soon, those were pretty significant concessions and show that at least progress is being made.
  10. In your first paragraph you said that you don't think that the universal DH impacts Mancini's value "at all", then in your second paragraph you explain a scenario in which the DH specifically does impact his value. The universal DH can only help Mancini's value, bottom line.
  11. This makes a lot of sense if the underlying philosophy is that pitchers are the most effective the first time through the order, and much less effective the second and third time through. Even with a pitching staff utilizing openers, the guys throwing the most IP are facing the opposing lineup that second and third time by default. That's the most common way to accumulate more innings than a 1-inning specialist/reliever.
  12. I never said anything about why he started late, or that the O's didn't handle him well (they did, all I said is that they took things slowly). My point is that Mayo didn't face tough competition. That's not his fault or the O's fault, but we have to take the level of competition into account when evaluating his performance.
  13. He played in the postseason as well. Also a super small sample size, but he made the jump. So let's dismiss the jump to double A. Gunnar still made a major jump from low A to high A. Mayo wasn't challenged at all. That was by design because the organization wanted to take things slowly, but the quality of the pitching Mayo faced needs to be taken into account. Henderson's season was more impressive to me.
  14. Glaser makes a great point, and that's why I rank Gunnar Henderson ahead of Mayo (they are my #3 and #4 O's prospects). Henderson faced the two most difficult jumps in the minors - low A to high A, and high A to AA - in the same season. And he overcame slow starts after both of those jumps. Mayo didn't face difficult competition at any point during his season. His numbers were awesome and he flashed plus power along with great advanced metrics, but Mayo is going to face significantly tougher pitching in 2022. Interested to see how he fares. Henderson also projects to potentially play a premium position - SS - along with 3B. Mayo projects as a 3B and perhaps corner OF, even though he's athletic and has good speed for his size. I prefer Gunnar slightly, but as I've said multiple times on this board, very excited to have both.
  15. It's a good time to start following the O's again. Even though the past few years have been terrible, our farm system is full of promising hitters, and we've finally built an infrastructure in the international market. I truly believe better days are ahead for the franchise. And Peter Angelos isn't going to live forever. Get to know the team's farm system. I think you'll enjoy following our prospects as several of them get promoted to the major league team over the next few years.
  16. I like Berry, Jung, and DeLauter, probably in that order. I think Greene and Jones have too much swing and miss in their games, and are too dependent on their athleticism. I think we really need to emphasize OBP and hit tool overall, especially to give the prospects already in the system (Adley, Stowers, Westburg, Gunnar, Mayo) support in the major league lineup (whichever of those prospects wind up major league regulars).
  17. No, the rebuild continues. We have yet another #1 pick in a good draft year, and we still haven't promoted any of our top prospects from the farm system. It's quite possible that more O's prospects will debut in 2023 than in 2022. Our international prospects are building up, but still far away. It's ridiculous to say the rebuild is over, unless you're being sarcastic and I'm not picking up on it.
  18. As other posters have already mentioned, the Marlins make so much sense as a trade partner. They're ready to win now, and have some pitching depth in their minors system.
  19. Sounds like we drafted a potential Darren O'Day type. I like it.
  20. Mayo is much further away than Stowers and Cowser. Jordan Westburg is a lot closer to the bigs than Mayo, which makes sense, because Westburg's much older.
  21. I really have come to despise Roch for being such an unashamed spokesman/lackey/propagandist for the Orioles.
  22. If we deal Means to Seattle, I'd be asking for George Kirby and one of Alberto Rodriguez, Starlin Aguilar, or Milkar Perez. Maybe add Macko or Phillips as a third piece. I'd be happy with that deal. Not sure if the Mariners would consider dealing Kirby, but I'd begin discussions with him.
  23. I feel the same way. Does anyone here honestly think an MLB team is going to keep Neustrom on their major league roster for the whole season? I would be shocked if anyone did. He's just not ready to contribute right now, and I don't think that even the worst teams in the league would be able to have him take up a spot all season. I agree that the Gillaspie decision is a little puzzling, but I doubt Neustrom gets picked. And if he does, I'm confident he'll be returned to the O's.
