  1. That is a kismetic harbinger of things to come. I'm certain it represents the coming of a championship to Charm City. First Natty Boh; next the Commissioner's Trophy. I love it!
  2. If I am doing the math correctly, that's about 5.3% or slightly more than 1:20. I'm not sure that qualifies as rare.
  3. There is huge pressure on Burnes to be El Jefe. He's in his last year before FA. He's the clear and absolute #1 on a playoff caliber team. He's supported by a bullpen with a number of significant ?s. He got a lot on his shoulders. I wish him health.
  4. This will come down to pitching. Without Bradish and, to a much lesser extent, Means the rotation is just ok. Bullpen will be less than last year without the Mountain. I'm hoping for something better than 0.500 but preparing myself for disappointment. I'm not certain I see the exclusion of Holiday as effecting the W/L all that much.
  5. TINSTAAPP I have to go with Holiday, he's likely more durable. Skenes may have the higher peak, however.
  6. 2/$56 with an opt out after 2024? He doesn't cost a draft pick.
  7. Would someone please insert the appropriate Allen Iverson phase here? Thanks.
  8. The formula makes a ton of sense. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I think the effectiveness of a FB/CU combination is much more than just a significant difference in velocity. Most scouts will tell you that they are very interested in a number of issues with the execution of a CU. Does the release point mirror the fastball (tunneling)? Does the pitch have movement? Is the movement significantly different or opposite the predominant movement of the FB? There are a bunch more I could come up with. The eephus is a novelty pitch because it is very slow. But it typically is not known for great movement. It is rather obvious when it is thrown (ie not tunneled). And it is not very easy to throw for a strike. If you play golf it's the difference in difficulty between chipping and hitting a perfect lob shot. I hope that answers your question.
  10. Why are we comparing EBJ to Cedric? Different body type. Very different game. Yes they play the same position and are both fast (most CF are) but their games are very different. If EBJ gives the O's a few peak Juan Pierre years we should all be overjoyed.
  11. That is why great pitching stops great hitting every time. That 3-1 slider was solid but that 3-2 change was absolutely elite. When you have 102 and can throw a 3-2 change like that....yikes.
  12. Big Mike is one of my favs so I'm biased. He had an excellent year last year until he ran out of gas. Will he do better in high leverage situations? The stuff so far says an emphatic yes. The only way to know is to give him the ball.
  13. Prospect for prospect trades are rather rare. Could it happen? Sure. Your contrarian point is well taken.
  14. Do you think that's going to change? I think he needs reps against LH pitching to turn that narrative around. He was drafted, at least partially, on the strength of his hit tool. If he can't hit LH breaking balls that's all he will see in the Show. I think he's going to have to figure that aspect of his game out or he might not realize is potential. That would be rather disappointing for a player taken at his draft spot.
  15. Really bad idea. He needs to get into a rhythm and have consistent rest. Over using him early is a recipe for injury. Get him on schedule to give the team 30+ starts and 200ish IP.
  16. A few more months at AAA isn't going to hamper anyone's development. Why make a trade now when the return is unlikely to be impactful to the 2024 team? The deadline will likely yield a better return. Save your chips. Cash them in when you need to cash them in. Being patient is boring, but it just seems like the right thing to do.
  17. Changeup looked nasty in the vid from @justD, thank you for that!
  18. Most relief pitchers, but not all, are fungible assets.
  19. Cionel Perez has struggled a bit. He didn't look good yesterday. Suarez could slot right into that role, IMHO.
  20. It has to be the Nationals! They want their money!!!!
  21. "Nobody likes to hear it, because it's dull, but the reason you win or lose is darn near always the same - pitching." Earl Weaver
  22. I don't care either way. They have to start considering how they are going to manage the service time of all these young players. That includes whether they hand out extensions. That will play a role, IMHO, as to whether Holiday is on the OD roster. If his long term position is 2B, he might need some work there in MiLB. Though that seems a bit contrived. I think there's still a while to go in ST before we will know.
  23. So I'm wondering a few things: 1) does he "grow out" of 3B? He's a big guy and moves pretty well right now at age 22. Does he have to move off 3B as he gets bigger/older and loses a bit of mobility? If that's the case, why not move him to 1B now? 2) does the bat play so well that getting him into the lineup in 2024 justifies the move to 1B or RF? 3) When considering when to start his service time clock, should the front office be considering how to stagger Holiday/Cowser/ Mayo to as not to have them all reach free agency at once?
  24. Roch makes the case that Mayo is very likely to start the season in Norfolk. https://www.masnsports.com/blog/blogger/school-of-roch " I still think he goes down to Triple-A again because there isn’t an obvious spot for him with the Orioles wanting Gunnar Henderson to play shortstop and third base, and Jordan Westburg second and third base. The club is impressed with the gains he’s made defensively but also want him playing every day. Hard for it to happen in the majors right now. But he’s impressed manager Brandon Hyde and the coaching staff as much as anyone in camp. It’s easy to see why he might be untouchable in trade talks." So are you impressed enough with his work at 3B that you play him there every day? Does he get time at 1B and RF? What's the message you send to him regarding his likely future position? I have to believe they see him as a future RF/1B and I believe they should maximize his exposure at those positions at the expense of time at 3B. Are there aspects of his development that make you feel differently?
