  1. I suspect he's had it his entire life.....
  2. Interesting that the OP is focused on the lineup. What about pitching? Hopefully this is the new frontier for orals player development.
  3. The kid has a prototypical pitcher's build. He was 6'4" and 190 lbs out of HS. He's going to grow into being a big boy. He just turned 20 on Saturday. Really projectable build.
  4. Forret was a well known HS pitcher in the Charlotte, NC area. He's from Indian Trail, NC which is just outside of Charlotte and played at Providence HS. They won the 4A state championship in 2022, they were 34-0 that year. He went to JC in Florida instead of going to ECU where he was verbally committed. He was a beast in HS. I've seen him pitch a bit. He sat 92-93 touch 95 as a senior with a hammer curve. You could tell he was going to pitch at the next level. Fun kid to watch.
  5. A considerate and much more appropriate approach to this issue might have been a PM to @Tony-OH. In that setting you could have rendered your opinions without appearing to be inconsiderate, boorish and unappreciative. But you do you.
  6. Really good start today for Kremer. Sad that the offense let him down. He really looked good today. Threw strikes. FB was a weapon. 7 IP, 5 hits, 6 Ks and no walks. No ER. Really liked what I saw from him.
  7. A couple of questions along that line of thinking: 1) Is there anyone on the team currently who you would feel comfortable giving the majority of the CF job to if you had a decent trade offer for Mullins? 2) Is Mullins still a threat to steal bases and how many do you see him producing in 2024? 3) Same question as #2 but for HRs? 4) What do you need to see from EBJ in the minors to trade Mullins at the break?
  8. This would challenge a pitching development program that has not, at least yet, produced much of anything. (I will freely admit that I have neglected to consider GRod in this statement). While I agree with you, this leads the franchise in an entirely new direction. Can they hope to be as good developing pitchers as they have been hitters?
  9. I think he might be breathing through his eyelids like the lava lizards of the Galapagos Islands. See, there are some lizards that have a parietal eye behind their heads so they can see backwards. I think that's what is happening. It's the only thing that can explain it.
  10. I figured you'd respond. 1. Manny's is a poor comparison. Different management group. Completely different situation. 2. Just because you didn't see any lapses doesn't mean their weren't any (see #5, you are not a professional and you do not have access to detailed info the O's player development folks have) 3. Mateo and O'hearn are not highly regarded prospects who defensive prowess in the coming years is likely to effect the franchise. 4. Thanks for the acknowledgement. 5. Not sure what your point is here. Every prospect is different and every team has different criteria and assessment methods. Were the O's wrong to keep Gunnar down in 2022? 6. Your choice. If he won the award in 2025 playing 2B I would say that validates the argument to keep him down.
  11. There are a number of inconvenient truths for the argument that ME is playing the service time game. 1) Holliday does not have a large amount of time playing 2B which appears to be his likely position on the O's. 2) Holliday was not particularly stellar defensively at 2B during spring training. 3) The O's braintrust has gone on record stating that they value defense quite highly. 4) Holliday barely had a cup of coffee in AAA in 2023. And ME has been consistently careful about "rushing" prospects through AAA. 5) Holliday is 20 years old. Who on this board, with the possible exception of @Tony-OH, is a professional player development expert? 6) Would any of us really be upset if he stayed down in AAA long enough to maintain his rookie status in 2025?
  12. @btdart20, lots of factors at play the last several days. Ragans and Detmers are quality LHP that any team would love to have. Sandoval ain't no slouch either. Also early in the season and not the best hitting weather in Baltimore. I think this is an epiphenomenon and not likely a trend. But worth watching, nonetheless.
  13. I wasn't at the game but watch both on TV. His stuff was much better against the Angels. My suspicion is that his FB was not there last night like it was against the Angels. You gotta dance with the girl you got.
  14. Statistical stability: "The consistency of results across samples, study designs, and analyses." https://dictionary.apa.org/statistical-stability
  15. In a somewhat rhetorical manner, what is more batsh!t crazy? Stating your convictions with enthusiasm, or trying to convince someone who is batsh!t crazy that they are batsh!t crazy?
  16. He the best 1B prospect they have in the system. He's just not playing 1B.
  17. I will be interested to see how he does next start. There's a lot of adrenaline on opening day with a new team.
  18. Churchill, perhaps? "We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalog of human crime. That is our policy."
  19. It's from Julius Caesar by Shakespeare. It's from a speech by Marc Antony and comes when Julius Caesar lies dead, having been assassinated by a group of conspiratorial senators in 44 BC. So perhaps there is some irony here given recent events with Orioles leadership. The full speech is: O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth, That I am meek and gentle with these butchers! Thou art the ruins of the noblest man That ever lived in the tide of times. Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood! Over thy wounds now do I prophesy— Which, like dumb mouths, do open their ruby lips To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue— A curse shall light upon the limbs of men. Domestic fury and fierce civil strife Shall cumber all the parts of Italy. Blood and destruction shall be so in use, And dreadful objects so familiar, That mothers shall but smile when they behold Their infants quartered with the hands of war, All pity choked with custom of fell deeds, And Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge, With Ate by his side come hot from hell, Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war, That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial. Antony was part of the Second Triumvirate that hunted down Caesar's assassins and eventually ruled Rome as a dictatorship. I hope that gives a bit of context.
  20. I'm pretty certain Adley would not be the first of our young players I would extend. It is unlikely that Elias operates like Alex Anthopoulos and signs all his young players to team friendly extensions that lock up the stellar talent his farm system is producing through their prime years. Unfortunate as that seems, unless Rubenstein is willing spend at a level not seen in Baltimore since the Albert Bell/Miguel Tejada days, I think you can hope for one or maybe two players extended. If that's the case, give me Gunnar and Jackson.
  21. That is a kismetic harbinger of things to come. I'm certain it represents the coming of a championship to Charm City. First Natty Boh; next the Commissioner's Trophy. I love it!
