  1. Maybe a Santander type player? We got him on a Rule 5 lo those years ago.
  2. Was he able to pitch yet since hurting the finger on his non-throwing hand?
  3. I was (and am still) more into songwriting and tasteful guitar and vocal harmonies that I was in technical ability. Rush never appealed to me, but I think it was more about Geddy's voice that ran me away. I am a mimic of sorts, and for laughs I can break into a "living in the limelight" goof from time to time. But I can only name two songs of theirs, that and Tom Sawyer. Neil Young, Beatles, Velvet Underground, NRBQ, Kinks, Squeeze, Marshall Crenshaw, dB's and Big Star were my bag in college.
  4. Makes me wonder if he's the Joe Saunders type role he had in '12, not flashy but stepped up when things were on the line in the postseason.
  5. So this means O's are not in on any more starters? This is it? No Skubal effort being made, perhaps wait for the offseason for that to replace Burnes?
  6. This thread is the Rick-Roll of OH threads
  7. I had not seen that spray in a long, long time. I think I heard Tony Kubek or one of those 70s era analysts describe it as "freeze 'em" or something. My health as a youth ballplayer (on through high school) would have been better served it we'd had a grass infield. We had so many rocks on our field that I can't even count the times I had bad bounces hit me in the chest, shin or throat. I was mainly a second baseman. I even pulled out a shard of glass from my knee about 35 years after the fact.
  8. I'm in. Ok, between him and Odor, who else do we have to buy beers for?
  9. McCann built the Hydration Station. Perhaps the O's can break out Rally Blood when needed from now on, like in pro wrasslin'.
  10. He was the Novacaine Player of the Game. Remember those days when trainers would spray a can of something on injuries on the field. What was that? Compressed air or some attempt to numb the pain with cold temperatures?
  11. I've had both, but the fastball was an errant warm up throw and it was nowhere near 95 mph. Come to think of it, I've had a foul tip to the mouth. I was catching once in a neighborhood game with no mask and split a lip that required stitches. I still have the scar. So I'll go with the foul tip hurting the most.
  12. Yeah, he's made of some hard wood. Not a similar in-game injury, but I wonder what hurt the most, a fastball to the face or a foul tip to the jewels (hello Caleb Joseph) ...
  13. Cal sometimes even called pitches, thus he'd be where he needed to be and his range was not really as much of a factor in those cases. "Ripken had total recall on games and situations. He always knew the count, the hitter, the pitcher and the pitch. He knew, with a breaking ball coming, against a certain hitter, he had to be positioned more toward the hole. One year, he even called pitches for some of the Orioles' pitchers while he was playing shortstop. He didn't keep a little black book; it was all in his head. He had a mental scouting report on every pitcher he faced and on every hitter." From an old Tim Kurkjian ESPN article.
  14. I was about to reply to you on the game thread on his D, but I kept getting the 403 notice and just dropped it. I was jokingly was gonna say he had yips, but it's really what you say, just throwing off-balance far too often.
  15. I fixed the first line for you. And as Ben pointed out in the pre-game, even the '83 O's had their troubles, ie. two 8-game losing streaks. I feel confident the ship will be righted.
  16. A solid, hard-nosed Oriole with an arm many an opponent feared, and an occasional hot bat. Some defensive highlights will surely be in this thread. Good luck with PHI, but not too much. He was a family favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QjqVV7VMuE
  17. That's bizarre. Maybe some unintended re-route of your IPS hit FL somehow. Hope it clears up.
  18. I like Kevin Brown just fine, but why does he choose to sit at angle or turn his head to his left when he's doing the pre-game chat? The only person who did this that I know of was Edward R. Murrow. He's not talking about "Harvest of Shame" or Eisenhower's domestic policy.
  19. I guess this explains the awful Star Spangled Banner performance last night, if you take the statement at face value, though I've heard some comment that it's either that or a really good PR response. She has responded to the criticism that she was drunk and entering rehab. I have to feel sorry for her either way. I hope she gets the help she needs if that's the case.
  20. While his performance in the HR Derby was not what we had hoped, I do hope one of the O's ASG members brings home one of those white stars he stood on and make it the crowning touch after O's HRs, ie. standing on it and flexing before going to the Hydration Station.
  21. I guess my idea of incorporating the Key Bridge into the scaffolding was cast aside.
  22. We're watching the remake of Manchurian Candidate w. Denzel Washington. I hope no one sings in it.
