  1. Hope Chirinos is ok, btw. That was a hit. Been doing housecleaning and had not been following closely and I initially thought "wow, Adley got nailed" and my heart skipped a little. Not that I'd wish getting pounded like that on anyone, but Adley already had one collision in recent weeks.
  2. Yeah, Earl didn't cotton well to that question about team speed.
  3. Seeing The Pirates vs. O's reminds me once (another team was in town, not them) when I was at Pratt St. Ale house and suddenly "We Are Family" came on the speaker system. I thought, "How can this happen in Baltimore?" Part of me was truly puzzled, but the bigger part of me was disgusted. It was probably a satellite music programming decision, but still ... embarrassing.
  4. My wife said she thought she could pick him up and hold him over her head like a baby. I looked up his measurements and he's 6'0" and 195 lbs. I don't believe it.
  5. Glad it's staying in the hands of the founder. You're appreciated and glad you're feeding off of that positive energy. On the other hand, if the O's move to Nashville, we look forward to those O's Hangout Nights at the Opry
  6. Brooks was good enough at basketball to be recruited to play at Arkansas if memory serves. And even Mark Belanger had to weigh between a college basketball scholarship to UConn and pro baseball.
  7. A friend of mine is Swoboda's first cousin! And he went to my mother in law's church in NOLA in the 90s or so. The Swoboda cousin is a Baltimore native and lifetime O's fan. I asked if he still pulled for the O's that Series and he replied he had to pull for his cousin. I don't think I could do that! I could pull for a cousin to do well, but I'd have to stick with my team.
  8. Sadly, '83 was like that for me, too. I had a really bad senior year of high school baseball. A kid whose dad brown-nosed the coach resulted me in being benched, except for late innings for defense or pinch hitting. Being totally demoralized about baseball in general, my fandom of it in all realms fell off for about 15 years, ie. '80 to '95. Cal brought me back with his streak. I felt additionally robbed that I really was just a casual O's fan by '83 and didn't really follow as the full on fan I was from ages 7 to 18. But I did follow '69, '70, '71 and '79 the best I could via the newspaper box scores and whenever the O's made it on to TV. Obviously, it was a great time to start one's O's fandom. Postseason success made that easy in those years to follow on TV, too.
  9. This. And I'll add that maybe let's all be kind to one another if possible. Life can be so hard for a lot of us. Some are struggling in a lot of ways that no one knows about. Bickering is just so easy to slip into. I only have 4k or so posts in 13 or something years on the board as I often feel uncomfortable sharing my thoughts / opinions for fear of being judged. Luckily, I did get to meet some of the posters over the years at O's Hangout Nights and some became wonderful real life friends (Weams, JustD, ScOtt and some I've met through my life as a musician, folks like BobMc and Chito) and it helps putting a face to the names. Just my opinion, but I just wonder if the better approach is to keep in mind there are real people behind the posts here, even if someone gets off to a rocky start. It's just not worth the stress. I read WAY more than I post.
  10. The return wasn't there, I'm guessing. Also, potential trading partners may also be looking at '23 and may have a clearer picture of what they may want to part with in the offseason to get such a piece for their '23 run.
  11. I always find it interesting, especially at trade deadlines to see how many fans of other teams (or unregistered users) are peeking in at OH. From just now: 120 MEMBERS, 0 ANONYMOUS, 327 GUESTS (SEE FULL LIST)
  12. Maybe her cocoanut cream pies will make a return for the post game revelry.
  13. It's like the "and the rest" on Gilligan's Island Theme?
  14. I saw that last item in Roch's blog earlier tonight and that was my main takeaway. He judged that the WC is possible to reach, but not built currently to advance deep. That is guiding where the O's are in his view, and that frames the rest.
  15. When someone says "he made it look easy", you can also add "he looked like he was not even trying hard." As the announcer said, he was flat-footed on that throw.
  16. If I had just tuned in and did not know the home team, I'd look at the back of the pitcher's uni and think this was the Angels. The red hat and T are fine taken alone, but just the whole thing together is just way too similar to the Angels. And yet, you see the front with that blue and it's just a bad clash. There are times when I'm thinking of a player and due to me being color focused (my brain works like that), I can't remember if the guy was an Angel or a Ranger. And there's guys like Vlad Sr. who did play for both and my head explodes.
  17. I see this and I think, "Spiderman".
  18. I find the Rangers' look, especially in this uniform, just maddening and silly. When they go mostly red in their color scheme, it resembles the Angels too much, especially with those red caps. I want to yell, "make up your freaking mind on your colors". And yet the blue script for the team name (with red trim) just clashes color-wise. I know it's an attempt to reflect the Texas flag's colors, but come on. I feel second hand embarrassment (as my kids say) for them
  19. I had no idea so much had closed there. I can see how things would have not survived 2020, but from this article, it appears the financial troubles compounded a little earlier. I admit that I had not been to the harbor as much, as the times I go to games lately, it's been with just my wife. With our girls in tow in earlier years, we made a point to go over that way. We tend to spend more time at Fells Point when in town. This photo essay covers a lot of the ghost town quality of that area. Sad. https://www.southbmore.com/2022/03/11/photo-tour-of-the-harborplace-pavilions-at-the-inner-harbor/ One place I dearly miss is The Ale Wife on Eutaw St. across from the Hippodrome. Is there anything remotely that cool anymore around that area? The bars on Pratt St. etc, are fine, but we tried to find places not as crowded. Ale Wife fit the bill perfectly, as it was not far from our hotel oftentimes.
  20. Maybe it's an editing thing, but it appears he got around the bases faster on HR 1 than the in-the-park HR. Gary even comments on how fast he moved on that one. You'll be missed, Trey. Good luck with Houston. And we'll get to see some more this year, actually.
