  1. That looks like it’s def at least replacement level.
  2. Thanks Luke as always, this is some really in depth stuff on obscure players. Love it! I see no downside in signing at least two of these guys. Thompson would be my first choice, and Mella sounds like he could be a nice bullpen piece if nothing else.
  3. Seems to have a good growth mindset. Rooting for him.
  4. I like Torkelson too. And Nick Gonzalez. I would be happy with both as well.
  5. Very true. The amateur draft is my World Series this year. And I read that post in the voice of the narrator from HBO’s Hard Knocks.
  6. Ooo yea, forgot about Matusz. Also forgot how elite of a prospect Bundy was. And then Gausman. I guess Bundy and Gausman easily rivals this pair. Aaaand I’ve successfully tempered my own expectations!
  7. Curious as to how these two compare as prospects to Arietta et. al when when they were of similar ages/levels. I was not following our minor league system closely back then. In other words, is this the highest upside (and I stress upside) PAIR of starters we’ve had in a long, long time?
  8. I read that blurb too and had a chuckle when the word “elite” was mentioned in regards to that group. I’d say they are “competitive.”
  9. Thanks for this tidbit. Seems like this guy, without saying as much, sees Baumann in more of a high leverage relief role with that fastball. I’m ok with that if it’s the outcome.
  10. Agreed, Gonzalez’ swing looks very good to me. It’s very quiet, which may be why it looks stiff to some. I think it’s much better than Howard’s presently...
  11. Thank you. Let’s not forget that Adam was one of the premiere Centerfielders in the league during his prime. I think there’s some recency bias occurring here.

Astros v. Braves in the World Series
  13. Not really, aside from them both being infielders from Vanderbilt. Looks to me like Martin has significantly more bat speed. And in the infield, call me crazy, but he kind of moves like Jeter.
  14. Maddon will go to WhiteSox and replace Rick Renteria for a second time in the same city.
  15. Sitting 96-97?! If so, that would be amazing. He usually sits 91-93, no? Anyone else see the game on Friday? Cuz if he can sit even 94-95, gotta think the ceiling is higher than a #3...
  16. Time to change his mechanics!
  17. Agree he gets a TON of separation. It’s an interesting delivery and I’d be really curious to hear what it’s like facing him live. Does anyone remember those terrible old pitching machines at batting cages that were like catapults? You could see the ball load up super slow in the head of the catapult and then all of a sudden it would explode out? That’s kind of what his delivery reminds me of. And I always found those machines maddening to time. And Luke, being that he’s such a big kid already, you think there’s room for added Velo without some of the aformentioned risky mechanical changes, or is a 92-94 t96 guy going forward?
  18. The next Ryan McKenna?
