She's young and still learning, play-by-play isn't her strength...but if you're a true baseball nerd do you even need a good play-by-play person? Few do pre and post game reports and interviews better than her.

The reasoning is simple: aligning a player's peak years to fall under arbitration. Most players peak years are between 25 and 30. The closer to 25 Elias can start the service clock, the easier it is to discard the player around age 30 when *most* players start declining rapidly. That's why Adley and Westburg were both called up a year (or two) later than they should have. I doubt Elias has any motivation to extend either of them into their 30's, unless the new ownership directs him to spend away regardless of risk. Hays and Mullins are perfect examples. They are getting into their late 20's and clearly diminishing. (most) of us love them both and want to see them succeed, but the declining data the last few years when it comes to their sprint speed is a clear indicator that their athleticism is waning, which they both rely on to be productive players. Cowser, Stowers, etc., are in the same boat as Westburg and Adley. They'll replace Hays and Mullins and have a nice 5-ish year window before being replaced by the next crop. It's cheaper to build a world-class player development program like we have done than it is to spend tens to hundreds of millions of dollars on extensions and free agents that are likely not in their peak years. Elias then has that ROI on his resume and is guaranteed a lifetime cushy job, like Billy Beane.
