The Padres just went through a 12 year drought with losing record and crappy ball. One playoff trip in a covid-19 shortened/impacted season, isn't something to bet the farm for a repeat playoff visit. The Padres ownership isnt anything to brag about either, they have had their problems since he brought the team.

Heck the warmer San Diego year long climate would be a big draw for me.

I do not see how they can call this a massive error in judgement as everybody pretty much had the same thoughts.

I agree all in all, Hyde has done a pretty good job with what he has been given to work with. I think they should reup him and let him keep working.

Very easy to play Monday morning QB on this decision. Just about every scout in the org and around baseball has doubts that Little Yaz's game would play at the big league level at anything more than a backup COF. I was as big as Yaz fan as they come on this board, seen him several times in Bowie live. Loved him. But, even I thought the pro scouts and experts knew more than I did and I didnt expect him to do anything with the Giants, it was just one of those low risk deals that rarely work.

I think obsessed is a strong word. If all he focused on was TTP, they would not have been had the most AL wins for 5 year span. He was far from perfect, but he was a solid manager that knew more about the game than I could dream about.

Think back to Clevenger when he was sent down by Buck to work on his catching, which he did. Seam like they ran hard on him.

Your last statement about dugout pitch selection is funny, I mentioned this in OH previously and got roasted as not knowing todays game. lol Im not sold on the total impact of pitch framing, lord knows we have talked about that in OH and Wieters, way too much lol I disagree with you on SB, when there is a bad catcher behind the plate, the opposing team will make like its a softball game and run at will lol

How about, at least a C glove behind the plate. For me, the catcher behind the plate is responsible for just about all the action on the field, and you need to do the basics, like throw runners out, pitch selection and for Corn's sake, framing.

could be. he also could just be ST glove behind the plate and depth at AAA. Personally, my backup catcher needs to be a glove first, and having a bat does help. If they had both tools, they would be starting somewhere.

There is ZERO harm, very low risk. Just some of us are amazed, we are already penciled him in as the new heir to the background catcher gig for the next few years.
