Coach K always comes off scared and upset when he makes remarks like that. He knows the ACC is going to fall apart sooner or later.

That's the same thing I always thought. Where would Duke be if the ACC does fall apart?

Great win for the Terps last night. Proud of the way Turg rallied the troops before the game encouraging them to play with Maryland Pride and to do the little things well. Len came out on a mission which is something I haven't seen since the Kentucky game. When he is motivated and physical as he was, he is virtually unstopable. I also liked that on the defensive side to start the game Turg put Cleare on Plumlee and muscled him around a little bit.

Allen played fantastic other than the 8 turnovers and made Cook look silly on the last drive of the game. The turnovers will dwindle as time moves on, but I think Turg should reward Allen with being the primary ball handler the rest of the season.

Faust played well coming off the bench with some jumpers finally starting to go down for him, and attacked the rim at ease. Padgett also played well and had some sweet post moves that worked over Plumlee.

Not surprised by the snarky comments by Coach K, he never gives MD any credit, and why would he start now with MD moving on to better things. As many of said before, he knows deep down that the ACC is in trouble, if MD wins the appeal in court the likes of FSU,Clemson, UVA, and dark horse UNC could be courted by the B1G, or SEC.

To those of you who are concerned with who MD's rival will be in the B1G, well I think the obvious ones in football will be Penn State, and Rutgers. In basketball I think Indiana, and Michigan State will be the rivals. Indiana has already begun poaching some of the Baltimore/DC area recruits with Oladipo, Stan Robinson, and are currently recruiting Dwayne Morgan, and Phil Booth. Michigan State for the simple fact of the NCAA tourney in 2010. Korey Lucious's miraculous buzzer beater at the end will forever live in MD's fans minds and the fact with a UMD win, the team was poised for a Final Four run.

How certain are we Len is leaving?

I think the chances are high that he will test NBA waters. However, from people on campus who are around him say that he really enjoys Maryland and college life. I think he would benefit from another year in college and getting used to American basketball. He should bulk up another 20 lbs or so, and fine tune his post moves.

I hope Turg will put in his ear that he could be a legend at UMD, and potentially come back for his junior year and lead this team to a deep run in each tourney next year and send a nice F U to the ACC, but I will understand and not be shocked if he left after this year.

Yeah, there are certainly reasons to have him back next year - but if he's still a 1st round pick, not even just a lottery pick, but a 1st round pick at all, then he's 100% going pro.

I've been a bigger Padgett fan than most this year. I won't pretend he's better than he is, but he should have been playing more for most of this season. Every time he's asked to make a play, he does. He's huge on the offensive glass. And while the minute you dump the ball into him you know he's not kicking it back out, the guy has gotten a lot smarter in his four years. He's become a good role player on this team, and I trust him more than the freshmen big guys in crucial situations.

The turnovers drove me up the wall. It'll happen with a young team, though. The fifth foul on Wells was a horrendous call, and could have been real costly, since you'll notice he took over the PG duties most of the time late in the game. He was the one not turning the ball over, for the most part.

If the game had gone to OT, no doubt the Terps would have still won. But in this case, giving Allen the ball at the end was the right call. He did a great job driving to the basket the whole game. He should be commended for that, as much as he should be killed for many of the other turnovers.

And lastly, that was the type of game we were waiting for from Len since he arrived in College Park. And it's going to get him paid very well next year. NBA teams draft guys on potential all the time. ALL THE TIME. When you have a 7-1 guy who can do all that, you'll pay him lots and hope he'll eventually start doing that more often. No doubt he's gone.

Noticed to the point that it looked like he may have been doing on his own, sorta waving Allen off, saying I got this.... Anyone else notice that? I like that calming leadership (we needed it at that point) if so...

Ha, in fact, I'm pretty sure I was yelling "keep it!" And as I said "it" he was waving Allen off. I thought it was absolutely the right decision at the time.

Yup...same here and I think Allen was quite ok with it as well.

    • Good point, no other metropolitan area has more than one team.
    • Could it be that they allowed the Gnats to reside within 30 minutes of their home. Effectively cutting their market in half?
    • Got my all-time low rarity score on today's game - 6.
    • 41 freaking years and here's this guy with the name pickles telling me I should be happy with 91 wins and getting owned in the playoffs again. 😂 😂 I saw a team that looked terrible the second half and probably didn't even deserve that spot the way they were playing .
    • Lol. Here's the funny they know more then you know. Typical Oriole fan who's happy with getting punched in the mouth.
    • I don’t like the wall. I think it’s affecting our hitters. I’ve mentioned before that I think it has totally warped Mountcastle into something he was never really meant to be. The guy came up as a pull-heavy HR hitter, and in his first season-plus (725 PAs), he puts up 38 HRs and a 116 wRC+. Since then, the wRC+ is down to 110, and his approach has totally changed, with his pull numbers plummeting (down from 39% in 2021 to less than 28% this year). He still hits the ball hard, but constantly underachieves his batted ball data — probably because he’s trying to avoid the pull field and hitting balls to the deepest parts of pretty much every other park. Will the same thing happen to Mayo? Maybe he has more pure power, but it’s always going to be a challenge for a RH slugger to survive with that wall. So much harder to do damage.   Beyond that, I think it’s also creating a serious risk of changing our LH hitters’ approaches too. These guys (Henderson, Holliday, Cowser, 2/3 of Adley) have come up with a reputation for being able to drive the ball to all fields. But how long does that continue when they just can’t hit it out to the opposite field? Our LH hitters had a combined 44 wRC+ at OPACY, and only one HR. They had the 3rd most balls hit to LF at home by LHHs, but the lowest wRC+ of any team on those balls (for the second straight year). The Royals, ironically enough, were the only team that was lower than a 70 wRC+ — that’s how much worse our lefties fared going oppo (at OPACY) than everyone else’s. By player: Gunnar Henderson: 112 wRC+ / .160 ISO (51 PAs) Adley Rutschman: 10 wRC+ / .026 ISO (38 PAs) Anthony Santander: 14 wRC+ / .095 ISO (43 PAs) Colton Cowser: 58 wRC+ / .057 ISO (36 PAs) Ryan O’Hearn: 47 wRC+ / .091 ISO (55 PAs) Cedric Mullins: 23 wRC+ / .100 ISO (41 PAs) Jackson Holliday: -72 wRC+ / .000 ISO (16 PAs)   On the road, they had a combined 126 wRC+ (with 9 HRs) going to left field, so it’s not like they’re bad at it. It’s just Death Valley out there in LF for them at OPACY.  How long will it be until these LH guys just start going full pull-happy? Essentially, the opposite of what’s happened with Mountcastle. When (a) your team’s philosophy is to focus on doing damage and (b) you can’t DO damage to the opposite field — the rational endpoint is just to try to pull everything. I don’t think that’s a good outcome. I think it makes them much worse hitters in the other 81 games, and I think it’s a terrible waste of a bunch of really talented hitters with all-field abilities.
