Gallardo - Roch: deal is DONE (signed)

I've got plenty of posts here where I'm pretty harsh on the management of the club, so I'm not in the absolute homer camp. But, that piece from Rosenthal is pure trash. He's all over the map with his crap. Why would Gallardo be less appealing if he goes back on the market if the O's physical is, as he claims, a farce?

I'd be willing to bet that if this was the Yankees' date=' Red Sox or Blue Jays, everyone on here would be having a grand old time with it.[/quote']

Na, we have A-Rod, Girardi, Bautista, and Ortiz and Lonn Trost ("And quite frankly," he added, "the fan may be someone who has never sat in a premium location. So that's a frustration to our existing fan base."). Plenty of stuff to bust them on without small stuff like this.

You are not a homer.

Like the time the Sox tore up the agreement with Napoli, and renegotiated a way smaller deal because of a hip issue? I think that was a non-story in every corner.

I think the press generally applauded the Sox for working out an agreeable compromise.

Speaking as someone who was very skeptical about the O's during the Balfour debacle, Ken's on the wrong side again here. He's got no case for his Buyer's Remorse claim. None. If it was about the picks, they wouldn't have gone ahead and signed Fowler. That signing ensured they lose the 14th pick. All signing Gallardo will do now is cost the 28th pick - which isn't anywhere near as valuable.

Let's face it - the O's were right in the Balfour case. I ate crow about it, but Ken failed to admit he was wrong and is doubling down on wrong now. No way should the O's sign Gallardo to that lucrative a contract if he's got a major issue with his shoulder.

I have never criticized Rosenthal on here before, and I have criticized the Orioles front office plenty over the years, but reading that article actually made me angry. I had to read the fangraphs piece Fearthenoodle posted to lower the ol blood pressure a bit.

Did Ken double down on the Rage and Jon Heyman called him?

Especially since they haven't technically bought anything yet. Pending a physical means something, even though it usually is just a formality. It would be like saying, "I'll buy your car from you if it passes a thorough inspection", and then when it fails, Ken Rosenthal says that I have buyers remorse. Uh...no not really because I haven't bought anything yet.

Alsoo this deal is over twice the money of the Balfour deal. And at the time of the Balfour deal the Orioles hadn't signed anyone of note to a multi year deal in a while. Angelos has spent a ton of money on players this offseason. I don't think any of us want to risk spending 35 million on a guy who pitches a couple of months and then is done.

I love how everyone wants to act like Gallardo has some injury history that is cause for concern, like every single other player that ever failed the physical.

It is hilarious. Let's lump this guy in with all the other damaged players, and make it look like he is the same as them!

The O's were right on a guy who MISSED 2 ENTIRE SEASONS just 5 years earlier from major shoulder surgery. Good for them. There should have been concern there.

Gallardo has been the picture of health for darn near a decade. Apples and oranges.

But it is great sitting back reading all this stuff about how his arm is about to fall off.

It is quite entertaining, with literally no basis in reality except for in the minds of fans who want to justify these repeated physical issues.
